Yes, the first time I heard anything about him was when he appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show in 2003 or 2004, before he gave the DNC speech. In the Northeast anyway, Election Day 2012 fell only a week following Hurricane Sandy, the most destructive storm to ever sweep through this region. Most of the rural parts of the region were out of power still, some for up to 2 weeks. Not only that, a major snowstorm was hitting that day, eventually becoming a full blown nor'easter and creating more power outages.
I have never been sure if the whole HAARP thing with weather control is actually legit. However, that whole sequence of hurricane>snowstorm, in an area growing MASSIVELY dissatisfied with Barry following him sounding the first trumpet in the Culture War with his moronic ass, "Trayvon could have been me," comment, all on the most important 2 weeks of the year for the government. All of that is very coincidental and it is evidence that leads me to believe that they can control the weather, in some way, sometimes.
The more power outages, road closures, flooding, and car accidents, the less people who could be at the polls to oversee. It's similar to Barry's next election "victory," when that pipe mysteriously burst at the polling center in Michigan at 3AM. Typical underhanded, dishonest, crooked ass tactics from the left. They haven't won a legit election since Barry's first, white guilt induced term.
Oh and in 2012, in case anyone at the polls was "undecided," Barry called in a few old pals from the university to just kinda hang around the voting centers (in the NE anyway) and help them, "make up their mind." I'm sure it was a mostly peaceful episode of strongarming and voter fraud.

    • @gagamba9198

Earlier than that. JFK's Trade Expansion Act of 1962 where the (Democrat) Congress gave the president the ability to reduce tariffs unilaterally without a quid pro quo. Prior, the Senate ratified trade treaties, so senators made sure their constituents were represented (to an extent). Textiles, garments, and footwear were the first to get hit. Then small appliances, power tools, and steel. These were all blue collar yet middle-class jobs. And on it went. America's open market even was extended to members of the Warsaw Pact. In 1968 members of the US footwear industry testified their astonishment that shoes from Czechoslovakia were imported under preferential terms whilst at the same time Czechoslovakia was arming North Vietnam and anti-US revolutionary groups elsewhere Asia, Africa, and Latin America. And in 1965 so-called immigration reform (Immigration and Nationality Act) began that ended the quota system and opened the floodgate, adding more competition for fewer and fewer working-class jobs.

They said he claimed people would hand him money all the time even though he never asked anybody for money.

The guy on the corner asked how much it paid. When he told him what the job was and how much it paid the bum on the corner said it wasn't enough. The man bumming said most days he made at least $200.
8 hours a day at $10 an hour is only $80 minus taxes and Social Security deduction totally well below the bumming rate.

He was a fairly popular governor of his state. Governors tend to do pretty well when running for president. I also remember the Democrat primary debates. He was running against complete morons, and easily ran circles around them. He didn't just come out of nowhere.
Mr. Obama on the other hand really did seem to come out of nowhere. He had just barely beat a Republican for his senate seat after getting sealed court documents about his opponent's divorce made public. Not exactly a glowing endorsement. What I don't recall is if he actually completed his term in the senate. In US politics, that was a pretty damn fast rise to become president.

@@MetrolMC that's a very good point. Even though Arkansas is a relatively smaller state of the South, the fact that Clinton had been re-elected Governor there for multiple times after the Democrats had "lost the South" in the 60s, signaled that he could do what Mondale and Dukkakis couldn't and appeal to people outside of liberal bubbles.
That being said, the main reason Clinton won that election was because Ross Perot took enough votes from George HW Bush. Without Perot, Bush Sr would have won that election.
And you are right. Obama was a nobody in Chicago, just a "community organizer". A mediocre lawyer, activist and state senator (and not for long).
He was still a state senator when he gave that keynote address, although he received the Democratic Party nomination for Senate in a very blue state. So by 2008, he had only completed 4 years of a 6 year term.
That being said, he was undoubtedly a good campaigner. His major opponents for the 2008 Democratic Party nomination were ghouls like Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and John Edwards. I liked both Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich, but they were too far outside what the DNC would find acceptable. And besides, in 2008 after the disaster of the Bush Jr Presidency and the Global Financial Crisis, the Democrats could have nominated a French poodle and it would have won that election.
But it goes a long way to showing how poor the Democrats history is of finding anyone good to run. There were like 30 people in 2020 and they were nearly all terrible. Joe Biden somehow won by convincing people he was actually Barack Obama.
Even going back to the 80s, all they could really find since Jimmy Carter was Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, who were both great campaigners but terrible in office.

It wasn't a pivot to a culture war. When a President takes power, he is immediately in the shoes of his predecessor or predecessors. It may take awhile before he is actually able to do some of the things he really wanted to do. Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton, were they really moderates? Hillary was a student of Saul Alinsky. Were they really moderates, or were they playing lip service while moving the country where they believed it should go? An actor or a politician, he may say what he believes people want to hear. Obama was a great public speaker, but he said a lot, and was a part of a lot, of shady things that suggest his motivation was not to better America in anyway.

Southern towns that are on the Left teach a clear lesson about why a large number of people want to be on the Left. They do it to set themselves apart from people they deem to be unsophisticated. The leftists are credentialists who think a college degree equates with intelligence and not just any intelligence, but the secret sauce that only the superior folks with letters after their name possess. In the north there is a union membership component. But southerners have a long history of cultural inferiority complex. There is only one antidote: get those degrees and show the world how different you are from the ignorant rednecks in your family or neighborhood.

And they all thought that was the end of the conversation. Yeah right, it's not the same thing, I'm broke and not getting paid for this conversation.
