Woah. Only CGRHD can do this. A review of a 360 emulating an XBOX emulating an Atari 2600. How freaking awesome is this?!! Man you should review every game on the anthology. That would be so cool.
Great collection indeed. I bought this collection a long time ago for PS2 & still have it. I even bought this collection for Nintendo DS, which is known as Atari Greatest Hits. I have Volume 1, but Volume 2 is still on search. Even though I love to play games on consoles like PS2, Wii & PS3, DS/3DS & PSP, I still love to play classic games from old classic consoles. These simple fun games are just blast & I can always have some entertaining time, when I start playing them.
Very nice review, and a terrific game it looks like. I'm not a big old school fan (Though I had played a few atari games when I was a kid at a neighbor's house), but this review makes me very tempted to buy this game, if I get a 360 that is. Great review, five stars!
good times. I hope to see you review Activision Anthology if you haven't already, that game really included a nice collection of Activision classics and included some rare games, even a few that were never properly released.
Right on I used to have the PC version of this. Dont know what I did with it lol. I think there was a part 2 of it as well. Not sure tho. Awesome review as always.
lol, I picked that game up a couple weeks ago and had a blast screwin' around with all the games on it. I must confess a lot of them are boring if you're not in the correct mindset to play 'em, and I'm not a fan of the menu screens or new features they've added. The arcade games would also be better if they didn't add the arcade machine borders to them, too. Still, I picked this game up for $12 used. 85 games for $12 is pretty dang good in my opinion. :)
You ought to review the Atari Flashback 2. I have one, and since my 2600 was lost years ago :-( it was a really cost effective way to play 2600 games in their native format. I'd let you borrow it to review it, but I can't part with missile command for that long! Still, get one and review it!
I'd imagine that using an original Xbox controller would work better for this collection than a 360 controller, mainly because the original one has a considerably better D-pad. The 360 controller has many advantages over the original, but it's not famed for having a stellar D-pad.
@YoshiUltimate Well since he often gets large bunches of 2600 games in one go to save on postage, it's likely he would have ended up with a few copies of that game whether he wanted to or not. Besides, E.T. is a piece of history, so a collector might want it based on that.
Wow. I never realized how much slower Mark... talked... back... in... 2... thousand... 8... Also... I like the fact that Atari had to go to AtariAge.com to get permission to use their own artwork... and gave them proper credit.
@Joethebestest actually segas last console was the dreamcast which came out in 98 and the jaguar was ataris last console which came out in 93, ps2 and xbox had nothing to do with the failure of atari and segas problem was the dreamcast didnt have any hits like the genesis did, but i agree sony is a big part of sega not coming out with anymore consoles. Atari and segas problem where that there final consoles didnt do as well as there previous consoles.
Dang I used to have this game but I sold it because I wasn’t interested but now I’ve been trying to find a way to play pong and a couple other games from the 70s on my crt tv and now I regret selling it
Does anyone know if the Namco Jogcon controller would work like an atari paddle for the PS2 version of this? It's all i can think of that might help for games like pong, and it would be really cool.
I think it's because he probably has all of these games in their original catridge form, and would rather be playing them using a joystick like nature intended. Just an observation ^_^
@manic221 watched it yesterday and laughed my balls off. I remember playing Raiders of the Lost Ark and E.T. with my Dad around 82-83 and those were the same. If u lost the booklet u were screwed. now u have to break into jack Trameel's house to get the sword and crown. I'm down to try it, escpecially with gold prices what they are today!
Aw bless, did daddy let you use his computer and you were a naughty boy and wrote naughty words? You'll be made to go back to your room with the special padded walls if it happens again.
I don't even have to see the real thing and I can already tell you there is going to be a BIG BUT with this release. Stock Xbox CANNOT output old school low resolution. It only outputs 480 scanlines interlaced, which is completely incorrect. That's why this compilation will never ever look like a real Atari VCS. You might consider looking for PS2 or Nintendo Wii instead. These console do have low res output, though it is not for sure the authors used it for this release.
why not have an anthology of absolutely obscure random ganes that suck like, the ones on the amiga C64 apple or ZxSpectrum ? Call it anthology of awful, im sure it will sell just fine.
Atari Anthology for the original Xbox is presented in 1080i.
Woah. Only CGRHD can do this.
A review of a 360 emulating an
XBOX emulating an Atari 2600.
How freaking awesome is this?!!
Man you should review every
game on the anthology. That would
be so cool.
the last review to use the classic "showing consoles" intro.
And Mark predicted Xbox One name lol
at 1:02 He mentions XBox one lol
Because before the actual Xbox One, the Original Xbox was commonly referred to as the Xbox 1.
This collection is outstanding! The paddle problem is annoying, but Battlezone and Yars' Revenge are worth the entry fee!
its also on ps2 . and even ps2 has an Atari game called Atari activision anthology
When I hear the ATARI ANTHOLOGY theme, it actually make me think of the 70's and 80's arcades.
Great collection indeed.
I bought this collection a long time ago for PS2 & still have it.
I even bought this collection for Nintendo DS, which is known as Atari Greatest Hits.

I remember when I was a kid remembering how I didn't have this game because Xbox hadn't been invented yet.
Did he find that Sword Quest game in the end?
Did Mark ever find Water World? I must know if he completed his quest...
Did he ever find Sword Quest? :D
Very nice review, and a terrific game it looks like. I'm not a big old school fan (Though I had played a few atari games when I was a kid at a neighbor's house), but this review makes me very tempted to buy this game, if I get a 360 that is.
Great review, five stars!
Intellivison Lives is available for the Xbox and for download on the 360.
good times.
I hope to see you review Activision Anthology if you haven't already, that game really included a nice collection of Activision classics and included some rare games, even a few that were never properly released.
i love the old intro for cgr
That MadCatz 360 controller has a paddle on it. How well do Breakout, Pong, etc work with that controller?
Right on I used to have the PC version of this. Dont know what I did with it lol. I think there was a part 2 of it as well. Not sure tho. Awesome review as always.
Did you ever find that Sword quest Waterworld game? (Nes Manga)
I played Swordquest Waterworld on my Xbox One S because I have Atari Flashbacks Classics Vol. 1.
lol, I picked that game up a couple weeks ago and had a blast screwin' around with all the games on it. I must confess a lot of them are boring if you're not in the correct mindset to play 'em, and I'm not a fan of the menu screens or new features they've added. That's really taking me back to the days
were you ever able to find waterworld?
Yeah, I got the PC versio for Christmas a couple of years ago.
You found Swordquest Water World it seems from your latest review of it a few days ago lol
Man my first video game console Atari 2600 but I buy for PS2. Good stuff on Atari games from past ah good times.
I want this very badly indeed. Must get a copy.
The only possible downside to this is that the packaging isn't woodgrain, nor does it come with a do-it-yourself woodgrain vinyl sheet
Did you ever find your old copy of Sword Quest Water Worlds, Mark?
and thats awesome that it shows you what each game variation is, no more matrix hunting!
loved the warlords cartridge comparison haha!
the new Xbox one I sometimes call it the ex bone or icks bone because people spell it xbone.
You should make a vid of you trying to find the game and hopefully actually finding it, I think it could be entertaining.
Did you ever find Swordquest Waterworld?
love the song at the end
Do you also recommend the Atari Jaguar CD, a.k.a. "The Toilet"? ;)
Aw, you didn't mention you can play the arcade versions of most of the 2600 games.
But you should check out Intellevision Lives on th ePS2 as well.
I Have Sword Quest Water World In The Box in like new condition (played but just barly) How much is it worth?
I'd imagine that using an original Xbox controller would work better for this collection than a 360 controller, mainly because the original one has a considerably better D-pad. The 360 controller has many advantages over the original, but it's not famed for having a stellar D-pad.
You should do a review on "Intellivison Lives" (Something along those lines) for the XBLA.
@YoshiUltimate Well since he often gets large bunches of 2600 games in one go to save on postage, it's likely he would have ended up with a few copies of that game whether he wanted to or not. Besides, E.T. is a piece of history, so a collector might want it based on that.
I like it because it had the arcade version of Defender, Tempest and Missile Command which IMO were a lot better than the Atari 2600 version.
what happened to your dog in the videos??
The first guy on UA-cam to say “Xbox One”. And the movie Kung POW first said “Wii U”.
Ummm, ya.... that has been noted twice now over 6 yrs ago
@@darrendavenport3334 not the Wii U part.
You recommend anything with an Atari logo? Oh, really? Do you recommend Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines for Xbox as well?
I have the PS2 version. And I'm getting the Atari Flashback 7 for Christmas.
i got a fb6 cause they were all out of fb7 consoles
Windows Ninety Five 66 They're practically identical. Only difference is that fb7 has Frogger.
yeah this is a nice compilation i have it for my ps2
it`s allmost the same buy it for xbox or ps2 it`s really a time travel in gaming history
Wow. I never realized how much slower Mark... talked... back... in... 2... thousand... 8...
Also... I like the fact that Atari had to go to AtariAge.com to get permission to use their own artwork... and gave them proper credit.

tempest in trippy mode is great but the best one is chess for the atari 2600 ... the arcade games are great ... no quarters required ...
Synth music at beginning name?
Really? I'll have to look for that then!
ahhh the wood age.... I miss it.
Dang I used to have this game but I sold it because I wasn’t interested but now I’ve been trying to find a way to play pong and a couple other games from the 70s on my crt tv and now I regret selling it
You recommend ANYTHING with an atari logo?? I thought you didn't enjoy the Atari 2600 version of Pac Man...
Does anyone know if the Namco Jogcon controller would work like an atari paddle for the PS2 version of this? It's all i can think of that might help for games like pong, and it would be really cool.
i have atari anthology for ps2 and controller did not working game for pong, breakout,
SUPER breakout,and warlords.
Lol breaking into Jack Trameel's house is the new 'SwordQuest' i'm up for it sign me up lmao
you should review the intellivision lives for xbox
IS THERE THE EXCELLENT E.T. GAME???
I soooooooooo wanted this game, till I saw no activison or a joystick controller available; bummer guess I'll just keep my actual 2600 😉
Pretty funny how he says xbox one xD
Just bought an original xbox and been calling it xbox one, while my real xbox one I just call xbox shitty name
hehehahaHAHA XD
What were they thinking naming it that. It had be approved by several people before being marketed
You're damn right. Both the xbox and 360 are million times better than the latest 2 consoles
this game plays on the 360 but midway arcade treasures 2 doesnt? why????????!!!!!!!!!!
I prefer to call Outlaw with only one player "Cowboy Suicide".
Nothing beats the real thing, such as an Atari 2600 System. Yars Revenge in HD rules.
Sword Quest looks a lot like Indiana Jones on the Atari 2600.
I dont think you would recommend the atari jaguar
Indeed they do, Just a shame in his case it isn't mentally.
Howd i end up here. Doesnt matter. Good content.
Comedy: A single page scan of an atari manual is larger than an atari game itself, maybe several atari games infact.
Nope, WaterWorld is the one that's worth boatloads. Search google for 'digitpress' and they have an online price guide.
He called it the Xbox One...
I think it's because he probably has all of these games in their original catridge form, and would rather be playing them using a joystick like nature intended. Just an observation ^_^
@DestinyHeroFlamer only if your playing the xbox game on the 360 othewise no
Is there et?
Good observation. ;-)
The only thing that isn't on here is Pitfall!
The memories
I prefer the Atari games to be played on the real Atari, because one it's the actual system, and two it has the Wood grain. :)
He already reviewed it for PS2.
yars revenge HELL YEAH BABY
yall maybe be able to pwn me in halo 3 or cod4 but lets see you rollover the score in yars on 1 life
@manic221 watched it yesterday and laughed my balls off. I remember playing Raiders of the Lost Ark and E.T. with my Dad around 82-83 and those were the same. If u lost the booklet u were screwed. now u have to break into jack Trameel's house to get the sword and crown. I'm down to try it, escpecially with gold prices what they are today!
What ever do you mean by "The mose fucking console ever?"
Aw bless, did daddy let you use his computer and you were a naughty boy and wrote naughty words?
You'll be made to go back to your room with the special padded walls if it happens again.
Wow classic game room reviewed and "Xbox one" game in 2008, talk about time traveling!
Atari 2600 may not have the best emulations of arcade games, but they are a reminder of when life was simple.
Major havoc !!!
I don't even have to see the real thing and I can already tell you there is going to be a BIG BUT with this release. Stock Xbox CANNOT output old school low resolution. do sonic and sega all stars racing pwease
@deadlygroove1 ooh thanks for the info
0:32 aaaaaaaaand there's the moon
Indeed. DOOM 3 OR GTFO
Also
32X OR GTFO
Tahhnkk yaauuuu :)
i agree
its not the same with the xbox controller.
lol and how?
why not have an anthology of absolutely obscure random ganes that suck like, the ones on the amiga C64 apple or ZxSpectrum ?
Call it anthology of awful, im sure it will sell just fine.
I wonder who won that $25000 crown. and to think that there were people who probably wanted that thing.LOL!
natje360
Your grounded !
better than halo 3 by a wide margin
Haha 1080p. And nextgen consoles can still not handle this. LOL!
yeah....no
*1080i
Uh...no. Also, this is just a compilation release of 2nd gen games. Of course the system can handle this at 1080i.
