When Mark was talking about adapters, I remembered when I didn't have an adapter for my atari, and used a mess of breadties and tinfoil to hook it up to my television set.
It looks like the Atari 2600 Supercharger version to me, but that's just a guess. The Space Invaders on here looks like the Famicom version to me too. I'd rather have the 2600 version of that.
Thank you for confirming that I'm not crazy! Both "Frogger" and "Space Invaders" look much more advanced than the ones I have on cartridge. (Sort of like the homebrew versions of VCS "Pac-Man" that have come out over the years that put Atari's original to shame.)
Atari 2600 was technically my second system back in the day after the NES. Had tons of fun playing it with my family and as of somewhat recently I got a Atari 7800 in 2009 after seeing your video reviews and haven't looked back.
Mark, I'm surprised you didn't mention how frogger and space invaders are not the same versions as the 2600 versions. Seems like an interesting point to include in a review.
I got this for Christmas. I thought I'd get maybe 10minutes of fun out of it. I ended up playing 4hrs the 1st night. It's a lot of fun. -I really, really hate those gaudy, big, orange buttons that replace the silver toggle switches. I might've bought it for myself a while back if those didn't ruin the look & the nostalgia. *Joysticks work much better than Mark made it sound. They don't have to be pointed specifically at the Atari to work. It seems like if the front of the joystick is even a little visible to the console, it works fine. *Joysticks take a little getting used to, but are pretty good. (They seem to be looser than the original joysticks IIRC.) *Paddles are ridiculously easy to make if you have any soldering skills. It just takes a 1Mega-Ohm linear potentiometer and a button/switch. I'm glad they put Breakout and Circus Atari in there, even if they didn't include the paddles. At least they can be plugged in. *Frogger did seem to have insanely advanced graphics for the 2600 version. *While Frogger's graphics are boosted, there's a total lack of game music.
Woodgrain was the "go to" option for everything back then. If they could have figured out a way to decorate the woodgrain with more woodgrain they would have done it.
Ah the 2600 my first system as well tough it was a handy down and it was the Darth Vader model I loved it all the same. Funny though that they used non 2600 ports of Space Invaders and Frogger. If I get one it will be the handheld version that there releasing in November, because of the SD card slot. I could just put the entire 2600 library onto the card and take it on the go. As well as having the real versions of Frogger and Space Invader for the 2600.
I would have been content with RF controllers. I don't know what they were thinking with infrared. They're on version 7 of this system, and they still haven't figured it out. The infrared is a step backwards from just the wired controllers the older Atari Flashback systems came with.
With all the complaints you made, I'm surprised you didn't bring up that the connections are unfortunately hard wired in. Sadly, that means you can't switch it in and out with your DVD player. That's a big problem if your tv is in a position where you can't easily get to the back all the time. Yea. You can remedy this problem with some composite cable extension cords. But it's just another complication that shouldn't have come up in the first place.
I'm still disappointed after 7 versions of the Flashback, AtGames still hasn't included Berzerk. They need to work out whatever deal they need to so Berzerk can be in the Flashback 8. Then I can finally justify purchasing one :)
Man I remember buying my first game console on my own and it was an Atari 2600. I found it at a garage sale with 30 games. I was 13 and to me a game console with 30 games for only $35.00 seemed way better than getting a SNES witch was still new at the time. I kept that Atari 2600 for 3 years and then got the SNES by trading it at a local game store. It got me $30.00 off of the SNES and I only payed $65.00 for it and it came with Super Mario World and Super Mario All Stars with two controllers. The 2600 was great, but it was even better trading it for an SNES and saving money lol.
I always thought about getting one of these, but I have the Atari anthology game for Xbox and the Activision anthology game for ps2, so I pretty much have the majority of the 2600 games between those two games.
You're better off with the Stella emulator, it's more faithful to the original hardware then this knock off trash. Atari today is nothing like it used to be, ownership has changed hands thats many times i wouldt be surprised if LG ownes it next
Thanks for SAVING me money on your review. I was a HUGE Atari fan but the wireless controllers really made me pause in buying this. Disappointed and why not off HDMI hookup for tv`s. Thanks for the review
I know this video is extremely old but I just found my atari flashback 7 in my old boxes, the system itself seems to work fine but both of the batteries in the remotes corroded. The corrosion messed up the springs and now the remotes do not work. By any chance do you know if I can fix it or pair new remotes to the atari flashback?
My Fb6 is having issues. when i play some games for a while, it resets itself like in adventure 2, i was in the green castle in the blue area going to open the blue castle, then it suddenly reset me to the yellow castle unable to move. i don't know whats wrong, its brand new, i just got it for xmas last year.
I did a atari mod off the the controller so you can sit any were in the room and play so you don't have to sit right in front off the atari on this channel.
So did they man up and license any games that defined the damn thing like the original 1980 Atari Space Invaders or Ms. Pac Man or did they just load it up with homebrew shovelware?
the only trouble with these AIO consoles is the games are often not the actual real games released because of licensing or other issues. They are usually ported or rewritten versions
I know the portable version of this has a SD card adapter. With the entire Atari library being like 5 megabytes that's a lot of power. I know there are people who have modded the Sega Genesis clone by the same company to have an SD card reader like the portable version. Since they all seem to have similarities in the way they are made maybe the same could be done with this little thing? I'm just saying that would be pretty awesome. Also I thought the Tempest port to the Atari was never anything more than a prototype. Maybe I'm remembering that wrong
how in the hell did you get it it work on your flat screen?! my t.v. has no yellow /white input...so I bought an adapter to plug them into that connects to hdmi...but it won't register?!
did they improve on some of the game or something? i mean, YARS Revenge looked like it should, but that certainly was not the atari 2600 version of Frogger...looked way better. anyone?
justin rivera Both systems' controllers have problems. These wireless controllers require you to point them at the sensor on the console, and it is highly unlikely a person is going to maintain the proper angle 100% of the time, meaning that certain button presses may be ignored. And the inconsistency probably worsens the further you are from the console. So yeah, even a controller with a short cable would be better. At least then you could be sure that the game would respond to every button press without fail. That said, if they could have used RF or Bluetooth for the wireless connection, everything would have worked fine, but I guess IR is less expensive, so that's what people get. At least they were nice enough to leave the controller ports so I can play with a Sega Genesis controller if I want. As for the NES Classic, I don't know what Nintendo's deal is with the short cords. Authenticity maybe? Even if they made the controller cords longer though, you still have to hit the Reset button on the console to exit a game and create a restore point. Maybe they thought people would want to keep the console nearby for that reason, so why make the cords long? The problem is apparently being addressed though. nyko.com/products/miniboss-for-nes-classic-edition
all atgames atari consoles have the laggy paddles, i tested paddles on the flashback 6 and the flashback 8 and they're laggy, i thought my paddles were defective so i tested them on stella on my PC with a 2600-daptor and it didn't lag as much, so atgames's spotty emulation was the culprit
Muito legal, parabéns pelo vídeo, foi muito útil. Este foi o vídeogame que meu pai começou a jogar na década de 80 no Brasil, incentivando-me e mostrando-me a paixão destes jogos.
I have this system and there are certain games such as Centipede and crackpot that I can't move the joystick left and right. Anyone else having this issue?
Out of all these flashbacks that came out, the Genesis one is the best hands down because it had a CARTRIDGE SLOT! The other flashbacks dropped the ball by not having the same feature. The future of retro gaming should be these flashback type consoles that are able to play individual games, not just built-in ones. Because obviously the older hardware won't last forever...
Alexandria Thorne Flashback 8 Gold has 20 Activision games including Pitfall, Beamrider, River Raid, Pressure Cooker and HERO and Flashback 8 Gold Activision Version has 39 Activision and Imagic games
Nope, Supercharger version look s like this: www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/167302-frogger-atari-2600-screenshot-game-in-progress-starpath-supercharger.png Whatever version it is, it's definitely not from *any* Atari system -- all very curious.
I got only 3 complains about this atari flashback system, 1,it’s waaaay too light, 2,it lacks both nintendo & sega games on it, 3,you have to open that battery compartment from those controllers with a screwdriver, but other then that it’s must have for atari fans & collectors including myself😁
So we have 7 Atari Flashback units almost all of which use emulation and the worlds cheapest parts to create the same unit over and over. Can we get ONE that has a few of those premium features? I'd buy one with HDMI, a decent controller (USB or bluetooth possibly with generic DirectInput gamepad support), and a cartridge slot. These clone consoles are of a quality that implies bad parents will buy them for the nostalgia trip then promptly forget about them.
atgames quality: if it ain't broke, don't fix it, just use the same shitty design on their next revisions of consoles like the genesis one with emulation flaws like the low pitched low quality audio and the atari one with the gimmicky wireless pieces of cheap infrared garbage and laggy paddles, at least on the 8th atari flashback they changed to wired joysticks and on the 8 gold they used 2.4 ghz RF wireless controllers but they still haven't fixed the laggy paddles. screw atgames, better off using emulators on PC
When Mark was talking about adapters, I remembered when I didn't have an adapter for my atari, and used a mess of breadties and tinfoil to hook it up to my television set.
Lol that worked? Awesome!
That can't be the legit Atari 2600 version of Frogger can it? Too much detail.
It's the NES-Version maybe, because the Flashback depends on a NES-on-a-Chip.
Same with Space Invaders. Definitely not the 2600 version.
It looks like the Atari 2600 Supercharger version to me, but that's just a guess.
The Space Invaders on here looks like the Famicom version to me too.

Game Sack Frogger and Space Invaders are the arcade versions. All the other games on this thing are 2600 versions. It's in the manual.
I got an old Magnavox 12 inch wood grain TV at a yard sale, haven't played Genesis or Atari on anything else since
I remove wood grain all the time Mark. I remove so much wood grain I'm considering opening up a wood grain removal business. What you gon' do son?
Its not Mark you got to worry about, its Lord Karnage.
SIMPSON"S DID IT
#SouthPark
Atari 2600 was technically my second system back in the day after the NES. Had tons of fun playing it with my family and as of somewhat recently I got a Atari 7800 in 2009 after seeing your video reviews and haven't looked back.
I need to get myself one of these, but the "deluxe" version, the one that comes with the paddles.
Mark, I'm surprised you didn't mention how frogger and space invaders are not the same versions as the 2600 versions. Seems like an interesting point to include in a review.

ha! that schwartz line from spaceballs is EXACTLY what was in my head the second you said it!
Ah the 2600 my first system as well tough it was a handy down and it was the Darth Vader model I loved it all the same. Funny though that they used non 2600 ports of Space Invaders and Frogger. Whoa... What if the Atari 2600 is actually from the future and the Flashback 7 is its ancestor.
Mind blown.
truxton
But does it have a 32x adapter?
Awesome Futurama reference with the 2 liter bottle of Shasta and your all-Rush mixtape B) Let's rock!
I would have been content with RF controllers. I don't know what they were thinking with infrared. They're on version 7 of this system, and they still haven't figured it out. The infrared is a step backwards from just the wired controllers the older Atari Flashback systems came with.

that wasn't the original Frogger which version was low was that the supercharger version
I'm still disappointed after 7 versions of the Flashback, AtGames still hasn't included Berzerk. They need to work out whatever deal they need to so Berzerk can be in the Flashback 8. Then I can finally justify purchasing one :)
damn, good call. I definitely needs Berzerk. In fact if it had it I would probably pick one up.
Juan Jimenez I'm disappointed it doesn't have Berzerk... and Pitfall! I'm still gonna get the Flashback 7 for Christmas, though. Not too bad.
Captain Comics Pitfall is Activision, so that might take a while.
Pitfall was on the Flashback 2 (non-plus version).
KillThad Why haven't they kept it!?
Man I remember buying my first game console on my own and it was an Atari 2600. I found it at a garage sale with 30 games. On the FB 7 sports games, is it possible to play against the computer? It defaults to 2 player but claims its 1-2 player
I always thought about getting one of these, but I have the Atari anthology game for Xbox and the Activision anthology game for ps2, so I pretty much have the majority of the 2600 games between those two games.

Do you have a Atari Flashback 3 review?
I totally agree with the woodgrain... Juno 60 is mad proof of what woodgrain does to a device lol
My first console!!!! ohhh memories!!
What do you think about the recent Atari releases on Xbox and PS4?
Seriously, they really need to do a Atari 5200 flashback console! I would buy 2 of them!
I miss cgrundertow :
Great Video.!!! I think I'll get one since I have no Atari ~ What wired controllers will work with Flashback 7??
Thanks for SAVING me money on your review. I was a HUGE Atari fan but the wireless controllers really made me pause in buying this. Disappointed and why not off HDMI hookup for tv`s. Thanks for the review

LONG LIVE LORD KARNAGE!!!
That's all i had to say...
...really.
Mark did you do a Review on Retro Bit Generations System?
the only trouble with these AIO consoles is the games are often not the actual real games released because of licensing or other issues. They are usually ported or rewritten versions
You should do the old hollywood 'movie game effects', and dub donkey kong 2600 sounds over top of all the games you demo.
How old is, Mark? I have a lot of respect for a gamer who was alive when the atari launched. so classic. I vote yes for wood grain btw.
Hi is it still worth buying today??? $15
My sega Genesis controller only goes up and down on the flashback 7. Are you sure the controller works with the Flashback 7
I would pick one of these up in a heartbeat if the video connection was HDMi & had Bluetooth joysticks. Come on, Flashback! What are you waiting for?
and pay about 200 bucks for that
Newtab 123- Don't be absurd. Licensing both Bluetooth & HDMI on a device don't cost THAT much.
Guernicaman what's wrong with 2.4 GHz controllers (like all the ps2/GameCube/xbox original controllers)
justin rivera Lag. Me, I prefer a wired pad anyway. Made one for my 7800 with arcade parts, best way to play Atari.
justin rivera - Nothing's "wrong", but Bluetooth would probably allow for more types of controllers to work w/the device.
7:28 Is that Haunted House II? And what the heck are you actually doing there? And I'm pretty sure that's the best Frogger I've ever seen!
I know the portable version of this has a SD card adapter. With the entire Atari library being like 5 megabytes that's a lot of power.

BUT what I want to know is, do you get E.T on there aswell?
I just bought one and i hooked it to my hdtv and it only comes in black and white how do i get the color to work i have tried everything PLEASE HELP
My kids just got one. Is there a better way to change the games other than shutting it off and turning it back on that I'm not finding?
Yes. The Player 1 joystick has a button for that, or you press 2 buttons. I forget exactly, but it's really easy to do. The manual explains it
how in the hell did you get it it work on your flat screen?! my t.v. has no yellow /white input...so I bought an adapter to plug them into that connects to hdmi...but it won't register?!
My fiance just bought me this console. This is going to bring back lots of memories.
To hell with the Playstation 4 volumes. They fit all of this into one package rather than two discs! And this one's not missing Solaris!
we need this kind for n64
did they improve on some of the game or something? i mean, YARS Revenge looked like it should, but that certainly was not the atari 2600 version of Frogger...looked way better. anyone?
I would be more interested in one of these if they just had wired controllers, and maybe HDMI output.
Kevin R funny how everyone is dissing the wired controllers on the nes mini but on this they wish it had wires wtf
justin rivera Both systems' controllers have problems. That Atari 2600 case is AWESOME! Gotta get me one :)
I would love to see Atari flashback 6/7 and portable to be in these stores that it's so awesome
Does #7 still suffer from the lag response the previous versions did?
all atgames atari consoles have the laggy paddles, i tested paddles on the flashback 6 and the flashback 8 and they're laggy, i thought my paddles were defective so i tested them on stella on my PC with a 2600-daptor and it didn't lag as much, so atgames's spotty emulation was the culprit
Well, majority of my house floor is going to have woodgrain so yay. It's gonna be awesome
Can you review the Sega Genesis classic
Muito legal, parabéns pelo vídeo, foi muito útil. Este foi o vídeogame que meu pai começou a jogar na década de 80 no Brasil, incentivando-me e mostrando-me a paixão destes jogos.
thumbs up for the Genesis
Your the grandfather of UA-cam gaming! Why doesn't UA-cam promote you?
I have this system and there are certain games such as Centipede and crackpot that I can't move the joystick left and right. Anyone else having this issue?
I have this, but it said limited edition and came with 2 wired controllers.
Was Yar's Return at 3:13 an actual Atari game or is it a newer hack or homebrew?
Texas Rangers hack
Anybody else see the TRON controller on top of the TV and think it was a bong?
Out of all these flashbacks that came out, the Genesis one is the best hands down because it had a CARTRIDGE SLOT! The other flashbacks dropped the ball by not having the same feature. The future of retro gaming should be these flashback type consoles that are able to play individual games, not just built-in ones. Because obviously the older hardware won't last forever...
The Genesis one had horrible audio
With the PS4 Flashback series, I'm surprised these are still being made.
An Atari 5200 Flashback would be SO awesome Mark!
truxton
Harry Fearns What about Truxton?
Well the first Flashback is a 7800 clone.
But it still wouldn’t be a Sega CDX.
7:28 It seems Mark isn't much of an Adventure fan, or Adventure II, for that matter. It's okay Mark. I love it enough for the both of us. lol
I wish I knew how to play two-player games with the wireless controllers
what was the game that looked like pole position?
I was acquired a 2600 Atari. how many games did they make for atari
im not sure about all of them but i know there is over 2500 games or something like that
lmao love the space balls reference I have all 3 flash back systems but might get the originals later
Personally when it comes to playing Atari on a modern TV, just prefer to use my AV modded Vader. But I can see the appeal with this thing
I think it's real faux wood grain, kinda like authentic faux diamonds.
Do you still need a old tv or will it work with any tv
Any
I love that carrying case!
can anyone give me some advice on atari? i would like to get a flashback system but would it be better to buy the 7 or the 2+
I love the feel of woodgrain. "I put it in my underwear." (mst3k)
How do you do multiplayer
Got this for Christmas this year. I love it but really miss some Activision titles
Alexandria Thorne Flashback 8 Gold has 20 Activision games including Pitfall, Beamrider, River Raid, Pressure Cooker and HERO and Flashback 8 Gold Activision Version has 39 Activision and Imagic games
Yeah but I didn't get a Flashback 8, I got a Flashback 7, lol
Space Invaders and Frogger do not look like the 2600 versions. Does it play 5200/7800 games?
I was wondering the same thing, although they don't like like the 5200/7800 versions either; the closest Frogger I could find is the arcade version.
Nope, Supercharger version look s like this: www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/167302-frogger-atari-2600-screenshot-game-in-progress-starpath-supercharger.png Whatever version it is, it's definitely not from *any* Atari system -- all very curious.
*You should be excited about the new Atari mini HUH Mark!???*
2021 could do with a bit more Frog Pond.
The fact that this doesn't have the original Space Invaders version got me so mad i just tossed my Truxton cartridge against the wall into 10 pieces
I got only 3 complains about this atari flashback system,
1,it’s waaaay too light,
2,it lacks both nintendo & sega games on it,
3,you have to open that battery compartment from those controllers with a screwdriver, but other then that it’s must have for atari fans & collectors including myself😁
any chance et is on this?
Nice Futurama sidekick there :)
Beverly Crusher is also in a Lionel Richie video.
"Look at those physics!"
the retro NES that is coming out is gonna be awsome
I'm thinking of getting the 40 dollar Wal Mart version with wired sticks.
Why would anyone want to play Frog Pond when they can play Frogs & Flies instead!
Nah I would play frogger
So we have 7 Atari Flashback units almost all of which use emulation and the worlds cheapest parts to create the same unit over and over. Can we get ONE that has a few of those premium features? Wood grain was a seventies thing, along with orange shag carpet and bell-bottoms. We're all better off without wood grain.
I used to love Yars Revenge!! Does it have Popeye or Mousetrap?
Jungle Hunt?!!
Denise Suzanne Flashback 7 and 8/8 Gold have Jungle Hunt but 8 Gold Activision version doesn't.
I thought the 7 did away with wireless controllers??
the game where you didnt know what was going on was the first game with in easter egg the game was ADVENTURE!
Whats name of a Blue guy in begin of vídeo?
Nomad Natan what is the name of your english teacher ? I need to speak to him.
That's the arcade version of Frogger and Space Invaders.
My friend is telling me about the Atari I can't wait to play the Atari
Does anyone know how to do multiplayer?
