This is a ridiculously good sound for such a cheap and small amp. In fact, it's a good sound by any measure. Makes me question some much more expensive purchases.
Leon, your playing on the Strat piece in F# (starts around 11:46) is absolutely one of your finest moments from your video catalog. Your physical countenance during that section saw you playing as if your feet had left the ground. Your harmonic and melodic choices were outstanding-everything great improvising contains. Really glad I got to see this.
Wow, LT. We forget your demoing an amp and get lost in your playing! You could jam thru an old transistor radio and would still sound awesome. Great sounding mini amp. I bought the mini BE Freidman, i wish i had waited as this Bogner sounds better to my ears. When you switched to the Strat, you took it to a whole nutha level! Thank you!
I was tempted by the Friedman mini but instead I bought a Quilter Micro Block. It paired nicely with my Friedman BE-OD. I added my Boss GE-7 and some reverb and delay. It plugs straight into a home-built 1x12 with a Greenback. So much cool stuff out there that sounds great.
I never shied away from solid state, especially SansAmp. They made some AWESOME power amps for guitar preamps. Solid State power amps have better low end than tube power amps anyway:)
You know... I got sold on needing tube amps back in the early 90's by a buddy of mine. Have gone through many. But as the years have gone by, I've realized that my style of play (not a tone of dynamics) and definitely heavier (not extreme metal - but I use a lot of palm muting in my playing) and so I'm not gravitating back towards looking at some solid state amps. I have a nice Marshall 4x12 cabinet I'm not getting rid of and have a Line 6 Pod GO I'm using for recording. For the past 8 years I've owned a Hughes & Kettner Grand Meister 36. Loved it. Served it's purpose. Recently traded it off on a PRS guitar. So I'm looking for an inexpensive solid state head to basically power the cab while I run the Line 6 through it. This amp seems bad ass for the price. I fully understand the difference in tube amps and solid state. But I was never snobby about it. If find the debate fascinating.
@@seventallguitarist Well, if you want THE MOST AWESOME power section... a Crate Power Block. I was running a rack rig with a straight-up power amp, made for PA. Well it broke, right before a gig, and I was scrambling and realized I had a stereo power amp, with 75 watts/side at 4 ohms. 1/4" ins. I hooked it up and kicked myself for not using that all along. It has just the right amount of power amp distortion to sweeten the mix:) ...IF you don't mind a very little low level hum, but not noticeable live:) I still have one, but no longer use it, but I would if I needed a power section.
After seeing the success of the Friedman Mini BE and now the introduction of this little beast, I have a feeling that a lot of other Amp makers will be using this '30 watt/Class D' format in the future. I have the Mini BE and really like what it sounds like and what it can do. It's a great little amp...and apparently so is this Bogner. Thanks for yet another great clip, Leon...
There will be more for sure. Bogner and Friedman are both part of the Boutique Amp Distribution group, so if Synergy is any indication we might see mini heads from Engl, Morgan, Diezel, Soldano and Metropolous.
Amazing demo. I went and bought one and the Ecstasy Red pedal. They sound massive. Use the mini for recording and back up amp and the pedal for live. Thank you for introducing me to Bogner
Thanks for the review. Picked mine up last weekend! Loved your tones, playing and attitude! I screenshot my favorite settings: I appreciate that. You’ve got a new subscriber here.
I knew I had seen this. Have to watch again here. Very cool how much you can dial this thing in. Very cool. Solid state like digital has come so far. ♥️🤘♥️
This thing sounds pretty badass! I love the Boutique Amp Distribution guys, but I hope they can focus on more Synergy modules soon. I NEED a Friedman Smallbox module.
One of these fell into my lap... Holy crap!... So good... It does NOT fear my wall of tube amps... LOL When it's good, it's good... No need to overthink... Unfortunately, there are four and GAS is a powerful thing... Damn them... LOL Great demo... I've had one of these on my mind for awhile because of it...
FREAKING LOVED THE MIDNIGHT JAM! I think this whole trend started with the mooer micro preamps being so great at emulating real preamps. I have 3 of them (EVH III, Friedman and Mesa Mark III) and I run them into a pedal sized poweramp. The Idea with these heads is that you can have your traditional form factor and have some more features but I bet the DSP and poweramp section is quite similar to the pedal solution. It's cheap to produce and sounds good, so why not use it?
Great demo! Is it just me or does it sound more "brown" when the variac is off and you back the volume back down... Looking at these mini amps as a backup for my main Splawn
Hey Leon, I love that you dealt with the obligatory "am I sponsored" thing in the description with text instead of making a part of video about that annoying and flow disturbing speech :) Your content is much more pleasant to watch like that when you have minimized the unrelated stuff from the actual topic. What I like about this amp: no more does lunch box mean a puny reflection of the big thing. This one roars. And I had to google a bit for some article to mention it's still solid state. Impressive attention to the sound. I didn't grasp any of the usual solid state vibes from this one. Much better than something like 6505 lunch box which sounds like an empty basket.
These mini heads are great, but I see a missed opportunity here. They sound very, very good, but If they made a deluxe model with a direct out and something like Two Notes software, you would probably see these everywhere and hear them every day on recordings! I'd use this over a plug in anyday.
These mini amps are amazingly good sounding (Friedman BE Mini too)! Seems as long as there is already a pedal that goes into a clean amp, BAD can turn it into a mini head?
Hey there Leon, Can you get the Ecstasy Mini loud enough to play with a band ? Have you tried plugging the line out into the return of a tube amp ? I am curious to know if that would work and what it would sound like. 👍
Line out into the return of a tube amp is indeed rad. With a 4x12 you might be able to gig it, but our drummer absolutely crushes the skins so I'd want something a little more powerful.
@@LeonTodd I guess you could mic a cab. Would you say this amp is mainly for bedroom and recording? If I was to get one for recording could I go into my Audio interface from the speaker out to my twonote captor? Would the ohms be an issue? Or would I go from the line out? This amp sounds great in all the reviews I've watched so far . Thanks for the response. 👍👍👍👍👍
Wow....very impressive Leon. Not sure who wouldn't want one after your vid. As far as what other amps.....damn....I want all of them....then some others.....BTW....this is an absolutely brilliant genius move by Boutique Amps Distribution...convince their independent brands to all produce class D "mini-heads" at a premium, yet a fraction of the price of their full fledged tube siblings. the synth stuff is a BT I made from stems i purchased from a band called The Midnight - the track is called Crystalline. The other BT is a track from "Backing Tracks by Tim" on YT.
These are the same amps from looks, to switches/knobs, to tone, hell, even that box looks like the Friedman Mini. I say this because from what I know, they are made at the same factory.
I feel like they could have incorporated a tube Pre section for another hundred bucks. To the average home player and hobby recording artist, this will be a cool toy. But it’s still very far from a full size bogner. I would rather have seen a 20-25 wat all tube version with 2 Chanel’s for $1199.

Friedman BE-Mini! I ordered one for my buddy, but won't be in-stock/shipped for a few weeks most likely.

Marshall Plexi, Soldano SLO, Vox AC30

holy fuck i love it sick playing and what a tiny beast perfect clarity distortion
Leon is the main reason why this amp sounds great.
No doubt!
What a great demo. It sounds a lot more like a thick tube sound than the Friedman mini 30 from the demos I've seen.
I would love to see a comparison between this the Friedman, and the Diezel mini amps.
The bogner is objectively better
