We're in a golden age for bedroom players right now. Nevermind all the amp sim and modeling options out there, even these inexpensive solid state heads sound great and are plenty loud for band practice. Wild compared to the Spider 2 I started out with.
Yeah I’m upgrading my bedroom rig, and I want to get honest sounds. Personally I hate all the plug-in and sim crap, and I say this as a newer gen guitarist.
These things sound surprisingly good for what they are. For me personally, I would go with a Jet City 50H and an old Peavey, Crate, Carvin, etc. cab. With patience, you can get the amp for $300 or less and $200 should be plenty for a reasonable cab.
Ha! My comment is in the video at the beginning! The SLO and Bogner minis in particular sound brutal and I feel like it’s hard to go wrong with these mini amps for a nice, inexpensive metal tone

I don't play in bands anymore so I'm not worried about these little amps holding up in band practice or at a live show... Mainly to just play at home and for home recording purposes. Now to pick which one to get!!!!
I'd stay away from the Harley Benton cabs until Celestion gets their speaker issues sorted. YOu can get a used Engl Pro cab from early 2000s for around 250 bucks and it'll sound infinitely better.
It's good to see all these mini amps compared back to back. Great video, keep up the good work. I recently bought the Diezel mini and I'm running it through an old marshall jcm 800 4x12 . I like it, don't use any boost pedals with mine just crank it loud. I did find setting the gain past 7 it gets a little fizzy sounding and when i set the deep dial past 6 the amp gets muddy. Other than that it sounds good, great for recording. put an sm57 in front of my 4×12 and got a good take right away.

I'm rocking an Orange Micro Terror that with a Behringer Tube screamer knockoff booster pedal gives me a killer metal tone. I have Joyo Zombie II mini-amp on the way that I'm really looking forward to.
I play Boss Katana 100w mk2. Hear me out. I have never turned the volume at max because Im scared. It's really lound and has a great tone potential. There's also a 0.5w function that I use all of the time so my neighbours won't have to keep up with me the same way my drummer has to.
I have the head katana 100. I've run it through 2x12s, 4x12s, and a pair of 2x10s. Amp sounds great once you learn what you were doing. You have to get into the masters to fix some freqs. You should really mess with your volumes. You'd be surprised how differently it responds.
@@tomwilson9010 I have. 100 watt mk2 and the ducking power amp blew so it's in the shop I got the deizel micro unplug it in to my line 6 slanted 4 12 and at about half past noon it keeps up with my deathcore slam band the deizel sounds better out the box then katana this vid don't do it justice to how loud it is
Get a Hughes & Kettner Tubemiester 18. I have one & they sound great. You can switch the wattage from 1,5 or 18. I use 5 in my home , you can gig with it on 5 or 18. Phenomenal little head.
I think these little mini heads are a decent option for beginner guitarists. In fact they are 1000% better than what I started on in the 80's. But I honestly think they would be easy to outgrow. The next step being a tube lunchbox head for $200.00 more on the used market. I think a $700.00 rig with a tube lunchbox head and that HB cab would be a better investment. It's an amp you could grow into rather than almost immediately outgrowing.
I have the full on Soldano and Bogner amps for gigging but i have the Soldano/Bogner and Friedman minis at home and trust me you don’t outgrow them, i never turn my big amps on at home, these are awesome.
@juanmacaceres2702 100%! They are louder because they use a class AB power amp vs the class D in the Friedman and for mw personally, they sound better and fuller
edit: holy hell, did not know the v55 went up in price so much I would go with a Bugera V55hd and whatever 412 is not expensive (Harley Benton, Bugera, etc etc). At the very least, I will have a loud clean amp to build a board in front of. At worst, an average sounding tube amp on the cheap.
I can’t stand modern players/UA-camrs but I like your channel. Also, screw clean tones. I play through three amps at once and I don’t think I’ve heard their clean tones yet.
@@TaylorDanley since you’re a boost nerd as well, I wanted to ask you- I’m getting issues where my overdrive pedals kill my sustain and certain notes, especially a low A#, dissipate into a high feedback in like one second whenever I use the boost. This happens on both a Peper’s Dirty Tree and a MXR Sugar Drive. I don’t know if the problem would resolve if the boost was in the effects loop, but this would be difficult considering I’m splitting my signal into 3 amps. I love the boosted tone and am trying not to lose that attack. I am running a compressor after the boost to try to salvage some of the sustain. It really hates that low A# though. What do you recommend?

Same, I have OCD, bad. I use Ibanez electric guitars exclusively (7 RGs and a JEM Jr.) and am trying to collect all the Boss compact pedals. Those are the aesthetics I prefer. Amps, I don't mind different styles, but they still have to look cool.
100w boss katana or headrush mx5 with headrush 2000w frfr. or try to find a marshall vs8100 i use all 3. By the way Taylor your videos are getting better and better. I always play them right away when they pop up.
Thanks dude! Yeah you could go boss katana, and that's arguably louder and a better value... but when I had one, I straight up never played it. I found it so uninspiring that I just didn't want to use it. That's a BIG factor for me personally.

Peavey Bandits are easy to come by for a couple hundred dollars. While a 112 combo doesn't look the part, it can definitely do the trick. And you can always plug in an external cab if you need to.

These amps are insane my micro deizel keeps up with my deathcore band good backup if ur main takes a shit like mine did katanas power amp burned up so had to get a head with like no money so I went on zzounds and grabbed one very impressed esp wen ur main is gunna be at least a month lol
I have the Diezel VH Micro and with an EQ it's incredibly fun but without any pedals... it's the biggest disappointment I've ever played through. I just got a simple Behringer Graphic Equalizer pedal and it turned it into a raging beast. Every guitar player should have an EQ pedal.
yes, absolutely use ear protection at those volumes. I’m amazed at my intolerance to it now as I’m older and take better care of what hearing I have left. I even wear them in my car sometimes when I turn the music up loud 🤣

1 Kustom p.a. active 50 watt speaker with mixer and a sn57 is well under $300. I posted a link but got deleted....musician friends has the p.a. for $119.
If I had to build a tourable metal rig for under $500 there is really only one option, and it has been the same option for the past 15 years. A used Bugera 6262 and a beat up 4x12. That rig has gotten countless bands through their first few years of gigging until they could upgrade to something more professional. Anything else, such as mini amps, or even lunchbox tube amps, requires way too many compromises and don't get loud enough for some venues.
Just buy a crate full stack for 100$ and a 16pack miller high life
Metal zone, bbe sonic maximizer, and the Kerry King emg pickup set with the gain booster switch. Don't forget the cheapest monster cables.

Peavey Bravo is a sleeper. Classic 30 and Delta Blues are amazing too. clean, rock, and Metal easy.

The 10 band is a game changer. It stays on every amp I use. Rockerverb? Massive. Joyo Zombie? Chug city. Mini XTC? Insane.

I just ordered an Ibanez Gio EX for 250, and a Boss Katana for 230. Didn’t get it to test yet, but betting it’s a great combo for the money/beginners!
Why not katana mk2 212? It will be really loud enough to keep up and not just sounding good, but also very versatile

For just a tad more I would go for a Joyo Mjolnir and a 1x12 cab(if you want to save money).

FOr 500 I'd get a 100watt valve king (250-350used) and the best cab I' could get with what is left.
Affordable Modeler/FX Processor (Mooer/Ampero/NUX) + Solid state power amp (HB GPA-100) instead of this lunch box amp.

If I had to build a tourable metal rig for under $500 there is really only one option, and it has been the same option for the past 15 years. A used Bugera 6262 and a beat up 4x12. That rig has gotten countless bands through their first few years of gigging until they could upgrade to something more professional. Anything else, such as mini amps, or even lunchbox tube amps, requires way too many compromises and don't get loud enough for some venues.
Those Chinese v30's sounds terrible. Nice comparison tho!
