@@DENOutdoors I wonder if you can build pyramid-shaped cabins ? I once saw a pyramid-shaped structure and kept pictures, but I couldn't find the person who built it. A cabin with such a structure will have a special magnetic field energy and good for plants and animals.
I am building a hybrid timber frame home (wood and stone) on a four acre wooded lot, I am managing the project and did many of the work myself (landscaping, interior painting, flooring, staining and some other stuff) house is about 1800 sqft. I had to clear 400 feet driveway and 80x60 sqft clearing for the house, dig a basement, a well, septic field and pay extra to run electric underground from the street. Cost have eclipsed the $500k slightly. It was more work and cost than I expected, but now I feel better about the cost after watching this video and knowing how much you spent.👍✌
Everything about your cabin is an absolute dream! Where I live it would be a minimum of around $700k to $800k to have something equivalent to this, with that much land.

You certainly did well on the cost of the standing seam roof at $7k. I got an estimate of $35k for a shallow pitch roof of an average size. Since my roof did not figure as prominently in the aesthetics, I went with an architect grade shingle for about $7k and used standing seam for accents only. Beautiful house. Good luck!
@@DENOutdoors thats crazy, I got Standing seam on my roof in 2020 was 18k total and they also reshingled my small garage included as part of the deal. I know inflation has shot everything up but Damn!
Love the realistic breakdown. Sick of seeing people on Facebook groups and forums saying they build similar A-frames for 80k. It's literally not possible!
My friend’s hubby is a high end appliance repairman (wolf, subzero, viking, etc).He told us that the only difference between them and mid level is that they cost more to fix.
What country/state was this done in? That is going to influence the parts & labor costs. Beautiful home. One thought: as nice as that tempered glass railing is, it seems like having some kind of wood, Plexiglas or composite cap across the top of it would be in order. Something about those paneled glass railings with no discernable railing seems unsafe, especially if someone was walking around in the dark and tripped or stumbled...

Google Says: "Generally speaking, mortgage lenders say that you can afford to buy a house that's 2.5 to 3 times greater than your annual salary. So in order to buy a $500,000 house, you would need to make at least $167,000 to meet the 2.5x income requirement." I enjoyed your video. I would love some advice on how to make that kind of income perhaps the new generation would benefit as to what the should do to be able to afford the house. Please understand not trying to disrepect but honestly truly would like some advice and I think a video where you talk about that for people in different income brackets would benefit. Good for you in sharing the costs of your place, there needs to be more videos like it. I'm confused by one detail about your build however. What is the purpose for all that firewood if you are just going to use a reverse cycle air conditioner for heating? To each their own, but a beautiful A-frame out in the woods without a cozy fireplace or wood heater is, to me, like a lounge room without a lounge.

One big thing to note is the wood framed windows where you saved money will not last more than 5-10 years in a wet climate but the premade windows with vinyl/aluminum frames last 20 years +
Agreed, although there is a 3 foot overhang to protect them, hopefully with a little maintenance (checking silicone and paint) they'll get a-lot more than 5-10

I would pretty much double or triple all the costs that were listed. Pretty much everytime i see any video on youtube, the prices are always lower. Inflaction, chip shortage, yada yada..
May I also mention that some people on lakeside lots will build a nice platform foundation, then put up a quality seasonal Yurt or simular thing... you would be really surprised how easily a small woodstove keeps a fire resistant canvas 12x15 foot and 15 foot tall mountain man pyramid tent toasty warm in cold fall temps...

Very nice house. My one big question regarding the windows is the thermal insulation going with a single pane custom cut panel vs. an insulated window from a company like Marvin. The upfront costs are high with an insulated window, but wont the heating bills counteract that over time?
The kitchen and cabinets should have been one of the main focal points of design to give it that warm and creative touch. Entertaining happens all around the kitchen and main room the rest is just good after that main event is over in the kitchen before retiring or to catch a morning or evening sun view.
I think I said in one of your earlier videos you are the sort of person America was built on. I am in the Philippines now and considering building an a frame. Yours seems to be an equilateral triangle much better. I am considering a 90 degree top with short knee walls. Alternatively I am considering a flat roof design with a living roof in both cases. A living roof would spoil all those clean lines but would move a lot of heat by evaporative cooling. Wood is a hard task master but it is my material of choice for everything, it grows on trees. Termites, fungi fire and bacteria I am working on the problem. Sodium silicate, smoking and Shou Sugi Ban tune in.
No matter what the wood pile should be moved. And under the deck,. A graded away from the house water run off from rain. Also, a thick, black plastic sheet, with a jagged crush rock. That will keep skunks. Snakes, deer ect from trying to sleep under it. A wood shed, roof , open side but with roll down tarp walls. Would work.

You can buy proper 3 5 7 layers glass as well. Making your own windows frames on vertical surfaces is a great idea if you secure them properly and isulate them against leaks
If you got all those appliances for $8500 idk what to say, because that is one hell of a deal. Idk much about the fisher and paykel, but a sub zero fridge will alone cost you over 10k for a full size 36 inch wide model.
I'm about to build an A-frame. Honestly the deck around the house and the two square rooms I see on each side seem like a great addition for me. They could be used for my working space and closet space respectively. What is your opinion on this idea? I'm so glad I got to a point in my life I am now able to consider building a dream home for myself at just 24 years old. ❤️

A-frame house is very modern and attractive, black stone combined with very strong wood.

Add in another $50-100k or so for septic/electric which his land already came hooked up with.

They are probably dual pane insulated glass units but probably not thermally broken so not as efficient as purchasing from a manufacturer.

If you got all those appliances for $8500 idk what to say, because that is one hell of a deal. Idk much about the fisher and paykel, but a sub zero fridge will alone cost you over 10k for a full size 36 inch wide model.

I'm about to build an A-frame. Honestly the deck around the house and the two square rooms I see on each side seem like a great addition for me. They could be used for my working space and closet space respectively. What is your opinion on this idea?
