You may have already done this, but I’d enjoy seeing a video from you where you describe what certain gasses look like, smell like and they’re effects.
I did a video about the history of chemical weapons, the thing is with most weaponised gas weapons, they're pretty much invisible and by the time you can smell them, you're dead!
On your improvised NBC video you explain that the gloves should be tucked inside of the sleeves of the raincoat. I was unclear why this would not allow water (or chemicals) that condense onto the gloves to penetrate the suit. Maybe you could do a video explaining how to properly layer everything to minimize the chance of exposure? Awesome job as always!
Chemical weapons can't condense on the other side of a suit if that's what your asking, condensation happens when warm air hits a cold object and then that air condenses on said object. By having the gloves inside the sleeves, the only way for a liquid to get in would be to hold your arms vertically upwards, if you layer them the other way around, liquids can drip down the outside of the sleeve into the gap between the glove and suit.
I would recommend as a good book How to stay alive it's by bear grylls it has some good survival tips in it. It also has a section on surviving a chemical attack which is quite interesting.
With the British suit... at the glove/sleeve union the outer rubber gloves I believe go outside the sleeve of the jacket. There are inner cotton gloves, however the outer rubber gloves have gauntlets that extend up the outside of the sleeve, and are tight against the sleeve. Any NBC agent is absorbed into the sleeve before reaching the inside of the glove. I do appreciate this appears counter intuitive, however thanks again for your time and effort.
What suit would you recommend for radiation? I live 19km (12 miles) from a nuclear power plant that was built in the 70's and was only suppose to be around for 20 years. It's been 40+.... There's been a lot of health and safety issues at the plant and they "might" close it down in 2024. I rather be safe than sorry.
You can only reliably block alpha radiation with an NBC suit, some suits may block Beta but it's not reliable. So just go for a lightweight dust suit style suit, so British MK4 suits or those asbestos removers suits.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I doubt most suits would be able to handle it. I did manage to find some suits that claim to block beta and gamma. I would assume it's to a certain degree.
Finnish army CBRN CO is trained to duct tape all openings if going to contaminated area. Ofc we didn't do that in training cause it ruins suit. In training you can use one suit many times but in real situation it's one time only.
Checking for leaks is the most important thing, if you can't find contents leaking out or other signs of damage such as dents then use at your own risk.
Great video ! Can you wear the suit with a Helmet (under or over) ? Or wear with Electronic Hearing Protection/Comm ? Have a pair of High Rubber Boots w/Safety Toes ! Think hunters have suits with carbon in them so the Game Animals will not smell them ! Have you worn the Gas Mask for 24-Hours (to test) ? Thank you for the video ! tjl P.S. Have 90 Plus days without RAIN now. And a heavy rain may cause mud !
The helmets go over the suit. www.historyanswers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/View_Through_Face_Mask_of_Two_Soldiers_Wearing_Protective_Chemical_Weapons_Clothing_MOD_45101880.jpg I don't think I could survive 24 hours with no food to be honest.
Would the NBC suit, gloves, and mask make a seal that would protect against a chemical / biological attack or is the duct tape actually needed to form a total seal.
Is the British Mk 4 comparable to the US JSLIST NBC suits? Both charcoal impregnated, but I've heard JSLIST suits expire after being out of their packaging for 120 days and after 45 days of being worn, which seems like a short lifespan. But you even demonstrated an expired Mk 4 repels water, which is good to know.
Are the material nbc smocks good as a windbreak? Just got a mk3 smock on eBay for pennies. Got it for the pose factor rather than the fallout protection factor. Looking cool while walking the dog is more important than nuclear war protection.
The Mk3/Mk4 NBC suit would be worn with combats including smock underneath (I think for a while the early CBA kevlar armour was worn under the smock, before plate carriers) then webbing over the suit. Probably best to go 5cm-10cm a size up when looking at using an NBC suit.
Would a GI poncho possibly work for minor protection? I have some rubber nbc gloves and boot covers but all I have able to find (locally at least) is long since expired charcoal fabric nbc suits that have been taken out of its sealed bag a long time ago. Would the poncho mayby work long enough to get out of hazard? Seems like a bad idea to rely on my fm12 alone but no skin protection from at least say fallout or vapor style gases
Weaponsandstuff93 thanks, good to know. Will still have to look into a rubber suit of some sort on eBay. Just hate to need something and have a carbon suit be long expired and useless
Hello i was wondering if a filter for my chech m10 was safe. there is limited info about activated charcoal leakage. it is leaking at the top but the inside is fine. is my filter safe?
Hey I got a question, hopefully you can respond seeing as it's an older video. But i have a Mk4 British NBC suit and the black linning inside is it charcoal? And if it is what would you recommend I've had people recommend wearing junky clothing under it.
As there aren't really any lead lined suits, I'd recommend any sort of dust proof suit, such as an asbestos removers suit. A suit only needs to offer particulate protection to protect from alpha particles.
There are suit that are so of "lead lined" called demron they are heavy because of lead fibers inside the fabric making them block 1/2 of all radiation but I think they are like ($900-1,500) for a suit depending on the styles.
themilitarysurpluscollector I wasn't necessarily looking for one that would protect me against radiation, mainly just fallout particles. I've looked into radiation protection suits, and my wallet started crying.
TheArsonator get they tychem SL off eBay it's cheap on eBay $10-20 it was designed for nuclear protection and was used in fukashima. It is the cheapest suit that I will trust with my life.
The closest thing you will probably get is a Millennium mask. You can wear like a rubber latex balaclava. How ever I have never owned one but I've seen it done.
One makes you smell like shit after wearing it, the other makes you look like shit after wearing it. The French used the Tenue 66 for decontamination work and the Tenue 67 for more heavy contamination purposes. The Germans had four/five Zodiakesque suits, the ABC Schutzbekleidung was similar to the Tenue 66, the Zodiak closer to the 67 and then the final Zodiak "variants" we're made in the 90s to use with SCBA. I think they made a white one as well, probably for non military use.
Weaponsandstuff93 I think I have a book with the name of that suit in it, it was an old civil defence book from the 50's from west Germany. Will have to dig it out and see what I can find. That suit looked great, in fact a lot of the WWII and early post war "gas suits" looked pretty cool. Shame there's little to no info on them. But I've also seen the Zodiak suit completely in white too from the early 2000's still using M65s as opposed to M2000s not sure the M2000 actually mounts to the Zodiak's hood too well.
did they use birdshot from a rifled shotgun in a nerve gas attack? that could be pretty powerful, al there is no way that you can evade all the small balls
too bad. the time will come tho, I'm sure ISIS won't give a damn about being a war criminal. Great channel btw, I've learned A LOT about gas masks the past few days, so thanks, and keep up the good work!
The rubberized suit itself might last longer, but the person that’s stuck having to wear it certainly won’t. He’ll slowly dissolve in a massive puddle of his own sweat. That’s because those suits don’t breathe. Thus, the occupant tends to quickly overheat. The cloth suits are far superior. Yes, the charcoal will eventually expire, but if you store the suit properly vacuum sealed until it’s actually needed, it’ll still last a long, LONG time. I own a cloth type suit for that “just in case” scenario that we all certainly hopes NEVER HAPPENS. Most Americans don’t own any type of chemical suit of any sort. Nor do most Americans even own a gas mask of any type. If something actually happens here, the population will be royally screwed. During the Cold War, most communists bloc countries manufactured and distributed gas mask for their entire population, kids included. The United States didn’t even provide such items to our country’s politicians. It’s as though protecting our country’s population wasn’t even an issue. Truth is, we simply GOT LUCKY. Had the government manufactured and distributed gas mask, we wouldn’t have over 130,000 dead Americans from COVID 19 now. Having served in the military for 20 years, those are items that I’m accustomed to having for my protection. And unlike the majority here that think that NOTHING WOULD EVER HAPPEN THAT COULD RESULT IN A WAR being fought on our soil, I KNOW BETTER. That’s because when war are being fought, they’re obviously being fought on someone’s soil. We’re not entirely immune from such an event from ever taking place. If we keep on getting ourselves into wars, eventually one is going to spill over into our own country. Just maybe that’ll be a good thing. Because then Americans might tone down the rhetoric before going to war so quickly.
I just got a British sbr for my bef uniform and I was wondering if there's anything I should know about it, and also if anyone knows where to find the shirt and pants for less than 500, that would be great. On your improvised NBC video you explain that the gloves should be tucked inside of the sleeves of the raincoat. I was unclear why this would not allow water (or chemicals) that condense onto the gloves to penetrate the suit.

like the polish aluminum type filter

Yes because the inside of the suit is totally filled with carbon.

I bought a check republic nbc suit it’s very similar to that German one

M1 Carbine but they are totally different rifles, M1 Garand is a battle rifle, M1 Carbine is a close range rifle.

Drowning in your own sweat a terrible way to go.
How would you go about cleaning the toulk of NBC suits, would it be similar to washing the masks thanks great video
Yeah hose the suits down on a concrete surface with a drain really, use rubber lube afterwards if you want to keep them in good condition.
