how to 2012 nissan sentra evap cannister

I had gas leaking when filling up. I fixed it by changing the evap (charcoal) cannister. It worked.

When you say you were leaking gas do you mean you are smelling gas fumes or actually leaking gas and did you have a check engine light for a evap code
