To add to Vinny's comment: the shaman flesh medling with others is disturbing too, its not metaphorical, it is extremely literal. Look at the monstrosities that burst out of the jars in the gaols, there's a person in the center holding it all together. Their face inspired many a theory as soon as an hour after release The lore of the other jars is not explored well at all in the base game, we know that Alex adds to himself with the bodies of fallen heroes but not how he began. Perhaps this is where they are born, perhaps shaman jars inspired lands between jars, perhaps the opposite. In typical souls fashion, they answer a question adjacent to the one I was asking, and make me realise that my original unanswered question has 8 unanswered supplementary questions. WHY ARE THEY AROUND THE ERDTREE MICHAEL SACKY??? WHAT DOES IT MEAN???
Answering non-rhetorical question: Enemies do have stamina, mainly in their ability to maintain a shield's guard, and some massive long form combos require enemy stamina too. So the Tooth Whip does have some use there, albeit not much. Yeah, Shamans aren't exactly living large in Hornsent society to put it mildly. Whipped, sliced, beaten, and stuffed into jars as essentially a slave caste. The Tooth Whip and that ghost's lines are unironically some of the more disturbing elements in any Souls game for me. Sure, we see slave knights and horrific creatures in all of them, but this is the first time such a visceral image of pure brutality and cruelty for no other reason than religious fanaticism is really shown in these games. You have a man with a whip striking people below him so they get in a jar. Horrible, no real justification can ever be offered for this.
