Hybrid LRF (Light Rock Fishing) - The Bight Rig

The Bight Rig is a tackle that Martyn designed to be used with LRF (Light Rock Fishing) gear to maximise the sport that can be had from smaller fish with an occasional, monumental scrap thrown in from larger fish found in the same environment. It tackles the inaccessible habitats where a profusion of weed gives fish the chance to hide from predators but also makes reaching them with conventional gear very difficult indeed. Martyn, who writes under his middle name Lindsey Green, thoroughly enjoys this style of fishing and shares what happened during a couple of hours recently on Brixham Breakwater.

I am glad you enjoyed it. It's a simple little rig but it works well. Let the bead rise slowly then twitch it down and reel very slowly. Twitch, whenever you like, and mix it up with 5 to 10 second pauses. Hopefully it will give you some fun on your holidays. All the best. Martyn

Will try it next time I get on a cleanish bottom, where I normally fish LRF it is large boulders and rocks with plenty of gaps it would just get snagged in the rocks and seaweed.

The underwater shots give a feel of the area straight in front of where I was fishing. The surrounding area is much as you describe. The best place is where there is a large rock with a miniature, well, almost a cave underneath it. The wrasse get in there and trailing your bait just in front of it often brings out the larger fish. I lose a few drop shot leads on occasion but not very often really.

@@martyngreen7565 The bit I fish currently with LRF is Big Rocks and Boulders that have been placed to break up the Waves along the side of a large Stone Jetty, the side of the Jetty is big concrete steps apart from the bottom 8 feet or so which drops to the bottom, the tide barely drops below this ledge apart from the shore end. The boulders and rocks come right up to this so you are basically dropping into some clear area's between the boulders vertically really, a few spots you can flick out maybe 10 feet if the area is a bit clearer. Only fish over low and start of flood with dropshot as it pushes you back up the large steps and unable to drop vertical, switch to small plastics for the small Pollack and Bass then. Catch plenty of smaller Wrasse of various types, Blennies and Gobies of all sorts, give a fight on the 1-10g rod, the small Pollack even better fight.
