We are italian and visited Vyborg for the first time last week. We missed to visit Montrepos park, but the people in the boat on Saima, when we were sailing to Viipuri, were singing this song, and we watched this movie yesterday just to remember how it sounded like. Sad and enchanting, both the city and the movie! Kiitos! Piero, Silvia
I have her singing this in the 50's and then in the 90's for this movie. What a beautiful voice and I think her voice in this song is better than ever, amazing song and artist, Mon Annikki Tahti.
The song tells about her longing for and memories from the beautiful park Monrepos in Viipuri (Vyborg), the town on the Karelian Isthmus, ceded after the Winter War and the Continuation War to the Soviet Union.
i read somewhere that the actress was famous for singing this song in either the 50's or 60's ,and the director pulled her out of retirement to do this movie.the blonde salvation army, girl kati outinen is in most of kaurismaki's movies and is my favorite actress and this is my favorite movie.this final scene is quiet and resereved ,but i think it is one of the most romantic scenes ever. both characters maintain a quiet dignity throughout the movie that is beautiful
Kaurismaki tells stories about ordinary people and casts ordinary people. This move makes his films much more powerful. He is a filmmaker of the people.
I remember the prettiest of Parks The wonderful Mon Repos My dreams often take me back To that fairyland The prettiest arched bridges The loveliest moonlit nights I have seen in the Park of Mon Repos Back to the bygone times My thoughts again do fly The days of the past The wondrous tales that last Still come alive in my mind I remember the beautiful Park The wonderful Mon Repos.
This film is just great and the songs presented by the salvation army band. Kaurismäki adds red elements here and there...like the loco in the end and dress of the lady.
That's pretty much it George... if you like her voice, check out one of her most famous songs called Balladi Olavinlinnasta. I like to think of it as the Finnish version of Long Black Veil... starcrossed lovers, and one of them gets buried alive in the wall of the castle of Olavi (which is actually a real castle in Finland).
Mon Repos (Vyborg) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Mon Repos or "Monrepos" (Russian: Монрепо́) (French "my rest", here written in one word) is a manor house and landscaped English park in Vyborg.
This beautiful song has been with me for many years. Masterpiece.

A perfect song from an excellent film.
Magic song, great scene and a wonderful film!
simplemente hermoso una de las mejores peliculas que pude ver en mi vida, fantasticas escenas y un gran final.
Search "Annikki Tähti - Muistatko Monrepos'n 1972" - a lovely song. And yes, Kaurismaki is an acquired taste, but a rewarding one.
I discovered this movie one month ago, and it is awsome
Pay attention to the salvation army soldiers. Cameo by Finland's perhaps most notable movie critic and a great personality Peter von Bagh. RIP.
Possibly my favourite film scene of all time.
love this thanks alot best movie ever

Mun mummi lauloi tätä mulle, noin 50 vuotta sitten!
@Lillikaarina Oletteko vielä elossa?
Does anyone have the lyrics to this song? I just adore this woman.
Kaikki omaisuus mitä häneltä jäi, mahtui matkalaukkuun...
Nadherna pisen i film!!!
Un beau film à voir absolument!!!
Tulee kananlihat tästä versiosta. Kauneinta Suomalaista kulttuuria. Etenkin kun tietää mistä kappale kertoo. Menetetty Viipuri... :-(
Interesting
