- Nathan Lane has been called "the greatest stage entertainer" of the 2000s. But as you'll learn in this episode, that compliment rubbed him the wrong way... and motivated him to take on a wide range of complex, nuanced, "scary" roles on stage and screen.
Nathan talks to Guy about performing singing telegrams as a young man, making it to Hollywood as part of a comedy duo, working with Mel Brooks on "The Producers," and the process he goes through to embody a character on stage. - Розваги
I never saw the play The Producers but I loved the movie. I thought it worked
No disrespect to Zero Mostel, but I found Nathan Lane's interpretation of those Zero roles much funnier and a bit more likeable.
It was different. Nathan was funnier and more con artist than Zero in my opinion. Zero was a physically imposing man that always got what wanted, and had a weaker Gene Wilder to play off of in that version.
Lane was funnier and absolutely looked like he sold used cars and turned the odometer back a few thousand miles. Just played it so different
Great to be able to watch this fascinating interview without interruption.
Sending love to you and Nathan for a happy 2024. Nathan is such a brilliant performer. I love his sense of humor so much!! Thank you for this podcast. Nathan does not do a lot of personal interviews. ♥♥♥♥♥♥
Nathan Lane IS my favorite actors in the World. Is the best. IS so underrated in Hollywood, shame.
Franky and Johnny, A funny thing happening, The Birdcage, Mousehunt, Guys and Dolls, Love valour compassion, The Producers, Modern Family, The Good Wife, The Odd Couple, November, The Front Page, The Nance 👏, Penny dreadfull city of Angels (best rôle in TV or movie), Angels In America (masterpiece), Only murders in the Building, The Gilded age or Beau is Afraid.
Gosh! The George C Scott stories!!!
I love this man a little bit too much. haha Great interview.
1:26:33 Dear Mr Nathan Lane. I hope you eventually read this. I know the argument you state here, but:
If it would have never been recorded that way, I would never had the chance to see your performance. And everybody elses performances. I have never had the chance to see that show. To see you, Mr Broderick and the original ensemble live.
So that Blueray that I have is the closest I ever got to seeing a real Broadway play. I love love love this one in particular so very much, because i am german and it is a big middle finger to all that nazi crap that was and sadly still is going on in that country that I left many years ago. I listen to the Music and sing to it. (Alone in the car when I am sure nobody can hear me. So I will not be sued for damages🤣)
Thank you so much for this because it helped me go through a dark time in my life.
Warm regards,
Stephenie
I love your experience

how did your get that part in the producers love David
It kinda makes me sad when he talks about his dad and how his dad was hardly sober through out his childhood.
Lane's greatest role? Snowbell, Stuart Little.
