You may recognise Nathan Lane's voice as that of Timon in The Lion King and from The Producers and The Birdcage. In Angels in America, he plays Roy Cohn. Russell Tovey (Years and Years, Being Human) plays Joseph Pitt in the production.

I studied, taught, directed, viewed the original, wrote to Tony about it, and these two plays are examples of some of the finest American plays of the 20th century. They are equal to O ‘Neill’s LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, Williams’s STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, & Miller’s DEATH OF A SALESMAN. Bravo to Mr. Kushner for his grand achievement in American drama.
Tovey's story about getting multiple pictures of himself with Central Park's Bethesda statue gave me shivers of delight. When I visited NYC with my sister in the 21st century's first decade, top of my list was having my photo taken there, which you can see in my avatar. And yes, it was all thanks to Angels, which I'd just watched in the Nichols film version. So lovely to hear these two brilliant actors talk about their experiences and insights on doing this brilliant show.

Joe's character is always harder to know how you feel about him, and I thought Russell Tovey was very very good. Seeing him here, at ease (with a voice to die for, may I add) I am realizing how much he crafted his Joe. Bravo.
I was in the audience for this. So great being there. Nathan sure can chat. And Russells love of Bethesda is evident. Met Russell afterwards coincidentally on Southbank later on and he was just so lovely. Great day!

Once again I have had the pleasure of listening to Nathan Lane sharing some of his theater experiences and back ground with his co-stars on stage this time at the National Theater in London. Russell Tovey was also a wonderful actor to get to hear his work past and present. What a delightful young man. Very Waspy and sexy young man to watch and listen to. I have an actor friend who saw Angels in America when is was played in New York this past season. Sure wish I could have seen it. I have the movie and the two books . This was my intro to Tovey, and probably the best I’d ever seen Lane
Brilliant! I saw half the play in the theatre and the other half in the cinema. Loved the production and the cast were all great but Nathan Lane was outstanding! In part two he was able to be utterly repulsive yet strangely sympathetic simultaneously. I enjoyed the whole performance but he really stole it in my opinion.
I saw the original productions at the National and was blown away. I thought they could never ever be matched. How wrong I was.
This time round I saw the two over a whole day and they still stand the test of time. The plays are monumental, relevant, funny and outstandingly powerful on both the senses and emotions. The direction is out of this world and all of the performances are quite simply stupendous. Every member of the cast and crew are giving 110%. This is an ensemble piece of the highest calibre and thoroughly deserves all the plaudits and awards that will surely follow. It was one of my outstanding theatre experiences of 2017.

Russell 's achieved his goal. I was very moved by his performance.
It is so wonderful that it was filmed, and I saw it in the U.S. in Atlanta on two different nights. Thrilling and magical. ps--also wonderful to see so much affection (platonic) between Russell and Nathan. They are both magnetic.

It's cool how Russell Tovey, during his final handshake with Nathan Lane, uses the old secret "I want to fu ck with you" handshake that used to be used in non-gay situations where being blatant was dangerous, long, long ago. They both laugh when he does it, it must be a running joke with them. And I'm sure it's just a shared joke, not a real thing.

i saw Angels in America twice on stage in Adelaide and was blown away by it in the 1990s i just had to see it again immediately . i would love to see Russell Tovey as the Mormon.

Nathan is the best
Al Pacino as Roy Cohn is an incredibly tough act to follow, but I can honestly say that I think Nathan Lane surpassed him. I very much enjoyed Pacino's Cohn, and in hindsight, I think that's the issue. Pacino makes Cohn entertaining, and almost likeable. Lane's performance revealed a greater depth of how despicable Cohn was, how his self-loathing and hypocrisy made him so twisted. Both performances are incredibly nuanced and watchable, but Nathan Lane, I think you truly brought Cohn (back) to life.
I think the complete reverse on both performances, although they were both extraordinary.
There were bits where Pacino nailed it, there were bits where Lane nailed it. Overall I think Pacino was more convincingly Ashkenazi ( he had the dialogue down perfectly, but Lane is a joy to watch.
You can't compare a "for TV" performance versus theatre - one is literally performing to a camera a few feet away, whereas the other is to the last row (well, in theory it should be). That's my polite way of saying don't compare
I somehow felt that Meryl Streep would get a mention. I was not wrong.

Joe Pitt is interesting character and one I feel bad for, I get he's a guy who did bad things, but he was in the closet, do people get to be forgiven or not? I know it's a bigger discussion but no every has it. I was thinking another play about Joe is warranted.

Rem Remy Like under his armpits? He’s nervous, too he’s just seasoned enough to channel the nervous energy into his hands.
Although I enjoy and admire Nathan Lane and Russell Tovey, I think Angels is way overrated. It could be cut to one-quarter of its length, and still make its point. I finally saw the Nichols movie, and the performances were great - I mean, c’mon, how can you top Streep and Pacino. But I kept feeling that they were going around and around in circles. I could easier sit through Tristan und Isolde again, but not Angels, even with the extraordinary Lane and Tovey.
Nathan Lane was a great Roy Cohn, but nothing else about the NT production was anywhere near as good as the three other stage versions I've seen, and not even close to the HBO version. The four main gay characters were all somewhat reduced to variations on the same caricature. Two of them even wore painted nails throughout. Seriously, now, in what world do two out of four gay guys have painted nails? Aside from a professional drag queen, I've never met one who does. That's just one wrong note, but it's typical of a production that was more interested in a theatrical depiction of character than anything rooted in reality.
