This is really useful for me. I did my lessons and passed my test in a small town with no big roundabouts, no weird one way systems etc and have never driven in a big city or outside my town at all really! Passed with one minor first time. I did the Pass Plus scheme after passing my test so I did a bit of motorway driving - but after that, I just commute within my small town. I think the disadvantage of passing my test in a flat, small city has left me unprepared to deal with driving somewhere like London :(
This learner seems to navigate these roads and roundabouts better than I would xD . This is really helpful for me to watch even though I passed years ago.

I had an embaressing moment, my instructor before the exam said if a light comes on its a service light that the examiner should ignore and told me to tell him... But when the light came on and I told the examiner, at the end of my driving test he said I'd actually not fully put the hand brake down and that's what the light was for 😅 make sure your hand brake is fully down folks. In the reality: just buy a car which has Oil level sensor, Coolant level sensor and Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor (most of german cars have it currently as I know). Always reset TPMS after adjusting tire pressure. Use Automatic gearbox and its way easier in the everyday life. Thats it... So you never need to do anything by yourself until it doesn't warn you to do. However of course its always good to know how to do those things in your car if you need to. It's 2023 boyz not 90's. :P

It’s a preference thing, I just feel it can be overwhelming to try and stop and change at the same time. With more experience you can do it that way, when you first start driving focus on stopping when it’s a closed junction
Even with junctions where you’re not completely sure if it’s safe, it’s better to stop and then look to go

My main point was if the lady was not sure and she saw the street lights and she glanced at the satnav and saw it said 30mph she might have not realised it was 20mph. There needs to be more signs in areas that have reduced speed limits to 20mph. But I agree you should always use more visual awareness of surroundings.

That was very painful to hear from instructor that learner would have done better job emergency stopping without using ABS... That is very bad habit to even try it. You have to smash break pedal as hard as you can in order to stop as fast as possible. I would not consider the stop emergency if you have not riched ABS point.

Is it really more effective to brake without engaging ABS? It seemed like a super effective emergency stop to me.

She braked very firm and we managed to stop
      But we did skid
So better to try stopping without mad we are slows it’s not a major concern

@@ClearviewDriving All Mercedes cars have been equipped with (Emergencey) Brake Assist for at least 15 years now. Wikipedia describes this as follows: “By interpreting the speed and force with which the brake pedal is pushed, the system detects if the driver is trying to execute an emergency stop, and if the brake pedal is not fully applied, the system overrides and fully applies the brakes until the anti-lock braking system (ABS) takes over to stop the wheels locking up.”
Meaning not only is it unavoidable that full brake pressure is applied once you brake fast and hard enough to trigger the system, the system explicitly applies maximum braking power until either the car has stopped or ABS gets active. Therefore if the brake system is powerful enough to get the wheels to lock up (with given the road and tyre conditions), an emergency stop will unavoidably set off the ABS.

@@aphextwin5712 fascinating and makes total sense from the point of view of getting the car stopped in as short a distance as possible.
I did my test before ABS was common on cars. I knew an emergency stop had to avoid a skid, but I assumed with the advent of ABS that restriction ceased to be a consideration. I was surprised to hear the debrief criticise the emergency stop for triggering ABS.

Hello. I have been watching you series of mock tests for a while now. I have already passed my test a while back in an automatic car and have now started taking lessons in a manual car. I have had 5 lessons so far and my instructor asked me to book my test even though I am not 100% confident with clutch control yet. My test is in the middle of December. Do you have any advice please? Thank you so much.

The level of gearbox incompetence with the newer way they 'teach' people is appalling. Gearbox /clutch discipline should be drummed into them but it isn't. All this looking around at screens too wtf is that all about.

Can't believe people think driving is this hard from all the questions in comments, guys don't watch, drive instead, you should try driving an old car with no power steering and bad clutch it'll teach you a lot more lol, weird to see dudes asking if it's okay to use the handbrake duh lol

10 out of 10 for instruction , alas sadly they forget the basics . I am sure it's true in UK . So many idiots on the road . Here in Australia car drivers haven't got a clue . Charge past a a truck an then pull into the left-hand lane and jam their brakes on . Why ? In saying that there are a lot of idiots driving trucks . My take on it is that is people's self importance overrides anybody . As a truck driver you should be aware of dangerous driving , be it cars or trucks . If a truck is in the centre lane indication left or right how should you pass him ?

Pretty sure an emergency stop can and should be performed with ABS engaged...it is in fact the fastest way to stop the car and allows you to keep control. It's exactly what ABS was designed for...so going lighter on the brakes to avoid the ABS to engage will result in only one thing: a longer maneuver.
