- This was shot at the FedEx Forum which had surprisingly great sound. I feel certain this is the last time I'll ever see the Who live so the show was a bit bittersweet as I've been a big fan since I was 13 (I'm ancient now). I kept the band intros at the beginning for posterity.
A fantastic piece of art. Period. The girl´s face playing the violin part at the end, it´s joy itself.
She's the daughter of a life-long friend!
Pete Townsend is a better showman and faker than he is a guitar player.
i wish pete could know just how much he is loved and just how much his music means to so very many. when pete comes in on the vocal he still sounds like an angel appearing in the clouds.
Couldn’t agree more. A musical genius who can convey that genius to us mere mortals
HE DOESN'T CARE....he'd rather be on his yacht....he's tired of all this...Roger will sing till he falls over...not Pete
@@peterzang Petes' a mortal just like us but incredible talent...
First saw The Who Sunday night November 28 1971, Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, TN. Alan Ross (Who later played on some of a John’s solo albums) band Ross opened. Truly life defining great concert . Still have my ticket stub ($6.50 for good seats). All of Whos Next featured. My highschool music friends and I , sophomores and I was the high school junior driving got there at 3 pm and watched all the equipment being unloaded and talked to parts of the crew who asked us to come down to New Orleans next night with them. We now regret not doing that but parents and school would not have appreciated it. Special call out to my friend Terry Cox who departed us last year and was part of that crew. Never can forget that night
Tom! Thanks man. Awesome! The hairs on my neck were standing up listening to this. I’m ancient too but I remember ‘Can’t Explain’ and ‘Pictures of Lily’ on the radio. Hope to catch this tour.,,
I was at the concert; I had a blast, it was even my first concert too! It was deafening but I loved it so much! Thanks for posting this ❤
Yes, deafening. No offence but you should have been at concerts when everyone just turned their amps up to 11. No days there are certain limits and baffling techniques. I managed to get my left ear blown out at a McGuinn, Clark and Hillman show in 1978.
Saw the WHO while stationed at the Navy base in Nov 1971 at the Mid South Coliseum . 18,000 fans . I remember seeing Bill Curbishley readying details before the concert .The show was a sellout and we sat up behind the stage behind Keith Moon . I remember the blue laser light at the intro to Won't Get Fooled Again . That was spectacular In those days .
first? I saw them their first concert after they were promoting a LP called "Who's Next"...everyone was sceaming "We want to hear Tommy"...no Tommy that night...and they were at their best...
It's only teen aged wasteland. God bless The Who. Alas...a shadow of it's former self. For those of us who walked the earth when they first toured Who's Next, we did witness greatness. For those of you who did not, enjoy every moment of this.
I saw the original four many times. It was always an honor and great experience to be in the same room with them !
They’ve still got it!
when i was in 8th grade (75 - 76) the who came to memphis. my older friend jimmy could drive, but only around here and maybe to nearby dyersburg. he and i plotted and schemed like you would not believe to try to find someone to take us to the concert. when all of our options had run out i had one last desperate ploy ... i would ask my sister to take us. she was 9 years older than me and 6 years older than jimmy. when i asked she said she couldn't because she was pregnant with my first nephew. the joke has been since he was old enough to know who the who was that he is the reason i didn't get to see them when i was in 8th grade. he is now 46 years old. on the 13th of may 2022, he took me to see the who in memphis. the concert went well beyond being a mere concert ... it was a momentous , monumental, life changing event.
it is amazing
Better late than never. I went to sleep smiling.
I was at that show in Memphis in 75.....saw them twice there......Great show
@@davidringo1399 long live The Who
@@boweevil6442 I was there also It was one of the "best" concerts Ive ever seen...and Ive seen many...BTW,I am 67
Saw them in Dallas right before COVID. First time was at the Mid South Coliseum around 1975
Thanks for sharing. Saw The Who in the 70's, what four guys wrote and performed are amazing.😎
Song still sounds so beautiful now in 2022.
I like The Song Is Over...Behind Blue Eyes from Who's Next
Saw them in 1982, my ears are still ringing.
Damn ! Hope they don't die before they get old.
Great to see them doing what they love.
Amazing video and lineup !!
Loved these Guys, so amazing and magical. I saw them Live last Monday May23, in Washington DC.........Dynamite Concert
I sure miss The Ox!
That violin was amazing!!!!
I was there !!!!! I drove 3 hrs. from Lawrenceburg TN. for The WHO !!!
Still Rocking I was at Shea in 82.
That night was nuts!
The WHO….. “The Kids Are Alright” Tour 1989. Rich Stadium Buffalo N.Y…….. AWESOME
After the concert the Who were being interviewed on the local radio station and the DJ asked the band…. “So what do you think about that new RAP music coming out”…. Roger Daltrey laughed and started to answer when John Entwistle said….. “Let me answer this one….. It seems to me that if you can’t write music, can’t play music, can’t sing music, if you know absolutely nothing at all about music, well then, you do rap now don’t you”….. Then. Pete Townshend said….. “If Hitler was going to come back and torture the world again he would use rap music. Roger Daltrey laughed and said…. “Isn’t that the truth”
And how right they all were!!!
♥️♥️♥️♥️
@@lisadc4681 Yes they were
Roger looks good, his voice much improved from the last few years.Saw them many times since the 70s and he was struggling when i saw them at the Borgata in Atlantic City.Pete,he's still playing like he was way back.I guess when your in your 70s you loose a bit.I can attest to that.
There are no band or singers from the 60's and the 70's that can sound as good as in their heydays. That includes the Stones, Paul McCartney, the Who. But that's being picky. They still can entertain us but differently. No need to dis them; they revolutionized popular music and culture.
@midnight rambler: there’s no human that can do anything as good as in their hey day (looks, athletics, talents, etc). It’s called aging, time, degeneration… Just enjoy that they are still around & rocking 🤘
@@benitosan1 Yup 75% of The Who and The Stones beats the hell out of a 100% of any young Rock And Roll Band now.
Magic, thanks for sharing. Big fan too. Yes, one day non of the true rock legends will be around with a part of music history gone
No true i believe pink Floyd is still in its tune
Now here’s the thing . . . this UA-cam video clip has been shot on a mobile phone . . . While the visual image quality is good . . . the sound quality on a mobile is crap! Enough said.
Frighteningly good, such class.
Thanks for sharing…
When you were the Original Teenage wasteland, This song means so much more.
The Who had top billing at a concert at Charlton Football Stadium (England) back in the 1970s. They were fantastic and had the first laser display. Keith Moon was on drums and John Entwistle was on bass. They were in the height of their career. Roger Daltry would hurl his microphone out thirty feet over the crowd and quickly haul it back. Great trick.
I was there! Sensational Alex Harvey Band supported and were brilliant. Poured down as I recall? Happy days.
@@rijamor That's right.
Still holding it together/ but glad I was lucky enough to see The Who with Entwhistle and Moon !!!###
I saw the Who’s first laser gig at Celtic Park back in the 1970’s……this reminded me so much of that time. Of course, if this was a recording from the sound desk, it would be much better. But as it stands, testament to a great band. Loved them then, love them now.
I was there too! Alex Harvey Band, Little Feat, Roger Chapman. A day I’ll never forget.
No better drummer than Zak Starkey to play with the who none better
Steve White?
Not even Moon, then?
Saw them in 06 at the Hollywood Bowl, a lifetime dream fulfilled, well worth it, not sure if I’ll make it this tour or not, probably their last. Pete looking strong as ever, Roger, well, he looks 78, yikes! Hot chic with violin always cool. Long live The Who, best band ever. (Or Pink Floyd) 😉.
I hope that you are no older than 16 or 17 because she looks like a kid and if you're not it could suggest that you have a sickness and need immediate help 🤔
1982 at the LA Coliseum. Almost got trampled, passed out twice. Partied too hard the night before.
First saw them in 1967, Fillmore West. Thinking about seeing them now but my old buddy from back then says not to expect the same energy..
Attended TD Garden, Boston. Wasn't as loud as I expected but otherwise was fantastic and thrilled to be there...God bless em
Fantastic to see them like that!!! Still got it!!! The stoat won!! Lol!!
Pretty amazing over 50 years after the original recording. Lots of Geritol.
Fantastic! That violinist pretty much nailed that outro. So much better than Roger doing a harmonica solo outro.
LA Coliseum?
saw them once in 1972? in Birmingham UK not my fav band but loved this post and the violin keep rocking who .
They sound great
It just ain't The Who without The Ox and the Moon the Loon....
Only drummer that could come close to what Keith Moon could do
As Ringo's son he learned a lot from Uncle Keith
Well, Keith did buy Zach his first drum set as a kid and gave him lessons. 🙂
Keith Moon's best years as a drummer had ended prior to "Who's Next" LP being recorded. He was sadly not the player in '70-'71:that he was from, say, '64-'67.
Seems silly to keep calling them The Who at this point. It's not The Who. Its Pete Townshed & Roger Daltry.
Ditto for the Stones. Its not the Stones. Its only Mick & Keith.
If Paul & Ringo went on tour together and called themselves The Beatles, people would freak out. But thats no different than whats going on here.
Amazing sound at their ages
Not bad with 2 guys pushing 80 long live the who
Amazing still!
I saw them in Saratoga Springs in the early 1970s. After getting a standing ovation,
The band refused to play an encore because they’d given 110% during their performance. Really???
The only WHO I listen to!
Awesome
Señores....bravo!!!!
Ya know, I have been a WHO fan since the 1960s, but they need to hang it up. Best player out there is Simon Townsend, and he ain’t no spring chicken either (b. 1960, same as me). Hard to watch your heroes get old.
So true. I’m so glad I went to the L.A. Coliseum for their “Farewell Tour” with Kenny Jones on drums! Jones was awesome but so bummed Moon was gone. 1982, Roger was flinging the microphone all around himself and he played the harmonica for the violin part in Baba O’Riley. Incredible! 30’ from center stage! In a sea of people all moving to the music… magical!
Violin girl sure is hot! Though I admit to having a weakness for that type. Kinda sobering to realize that all but one or two of the songs they played are older than she is.
She is making lifetime memories playing the stage with the Who.
You just minimalized her by first calling her a girl, than a lady. Then you discounted her age just because of the age of the song. Look at all the people who play Bach and Beetovan and no one mentions their age!!!
Uh-oh, PC police! I'll take the sexist rap on the girl part, but the comment about the age of the songs relates more to Roger & Pete being old than the violin player being young.
Okay, I'm ready for the hate mail, but let me run this up the flagpole: for starters I love The Who and this song in particular, but I'm not convinced the lady violinist is really playing that famous solo. It's note-for-note alright, but a little too perfect and a little too much like exactly what's played on Who's Next. I'm watching her fingering (and I am not a violinist) and there are sections where her left hand finger movements do not coincide with the audio we're hearing. Sometimes her bow movements don't jibe either. Does anyone know if she's really playing here, or is this just stage theatrics coupled with the original LP's violin track?
I have no doubt she's playing, but hey, I've been wrong before. She's got a great back story if you can dig it up: touch.facebook.com/katiejacobymusic/photos/a.10150310389118951/10155683875568951/?type=3&source=54
God that made me happy..
I was there….great show!
The greatest UK band bar none. In their prime Roger and Pete were awesome. BTW they still are awesome.
don't forget Ax and Moony...
What a great British band 👌
Daltrey is 78.
78.
Think about that for a second.
No way! That’s nuts! 😯
I just got here from almost 80 year old Paul McCartney performing Love Me Do.
There is so much sadness about Baba O'Riley sung by two old men. Rodger sounds good, Pete just looks old and almost disinterested.
This band deserves better, if you don't understand search for the island of Wright concert, or the Woodstock sets. I'm a fan, but this is just a shame.
Of course this isn't the Who in their prime, but also this is not about you reliving your 'youth' but about them passing it on, which they do with the young violinist's performance at the end.
If you can do better, Philip then have at it.
I had a lot of fun and went to sleep with a smile on my face. I got to hear a lot of great songs sure they’re not in their prime who is?
Bon Jovi's alleged lipsinging brought me here
Long live The Who - missed that swinging microphone
I was there.
Roger can still belt it out
The greatest violin
Oh hell ya 🎶🎵🎼
Wish I could have been there! ❤➡ The Who !
Immortali
Pete is.....❤❤❤❤
Go Dawgs!
I was there. The band was great but the crowd was asleep most of the night.
Not sure what to say here... I guess if you've never seen them and need to see them, well the box is checked sorta.
The cute fiddle player is amazing.
why not just omit the word 'cute' Would you say that if it had been a man playing?
The hot fiddle player is amazing
I saw The Who at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Jan. 1976. They put on a great show with Toots and the Maytels opening for them.
One bad thing was seeing Pete pounding on a roadies head when the person was trying to switch guitars for Pete.
He's "guru" probably don't know about the asshole side of Pete's.
In my opinion one of the top. 5 rock bands ever. 1.Beatles
2.lead zepplin
3 The WHO
4 Pink Floyd
5 Rolling Stones
Share your opinion.
Sex Pistols, Oasis, Stone Roses.
@@brianmorecombe2726Sid and Johnny good choice
I recall clearly how security confiscated cameras and film at many concerts back in the day. Some ejected fans for flash photos. Now it is the revenge of the cell phones. I'd like to see the riot caused if they tried to confiscate those. They never caught on to my honest-to-goodness bootleg recorder. But don't panic, big rich companies, I never tried to get a farthing for any recordings.
The lead singer is 78 years young :)
So the who are still touring. Is it true that they were outshone by the the "Stones" andBeatles in the 1960s making them not as known as the others?
did he introduce Roger...
Saw them at Forest Hills Stadium- Patti Labelle opened
One of the first full performances of Tommy
Best concert I ever saw and I’ve seen many
🎸🎸☮️☮️🎸🎸
Daltry should have hung up the mic 5 years ago. Sad. So loved The Who from 1972-forward. Such a integral part of my youth.
AW! They didn't show the fiddle player kiss Roger. The best part!
40 people to play Baba O'Rreilly?
Don't need to fight
To prove I'm right
Pete has to hate all that flash...just listen...without the bells and whistles...he's a genius...
okay you older guys, good one.
I wonder when they were in Shepherds Bush West London in 1972 that they ever thought that this song would still be being played live in concert halls and venues around the world 50 years on. In itself it must have earned them tens of millions of dollars ... I alone must have paid hundreds of dollars to see the Who live on numerous occasions. Ah the memories....😊
perfect intro for the the best organizations sport...UFC
Тоже монстры рока!
..and poor wodja.. Omg..
No harmonica ? C’mon Roger.🥲
I've seen three farewell shows for The Who. No need here to see The Two.
These have gone on aslong as Rolling Stones and Rodger Daltrey has still got a great voice.
Живы курилки !
The geriatric show but I love them just the same!!!🤣🤣🤣
Geriatric wasteland, it's only geriatric wasteland....
wow...totally punchless. I last saw them for their 1982 Farewell Tour. I took them at their word.
Their farewell tour was 40 years ago! Think about that. They’ve been around twice as long since they said goodbye! They sound great.
Carry on .
It’s only teenage wasteland
Who is better of if they shut up and just play the song...
Oh who shut the up and play ...
No No No no one will ever play like Keith Moon! no one ever can never touch Keith Moon! The drummer sucks!!!!
The drummer is Ringo Starr's son and Keith Moon was like an uncle to him. They both taught him. He's excellent
Roger Daltry.......he does its utmost....but sorry, it is not the same voice from 70-80 anymore. And thats normal ! Better stop now....
This is horrid.
Most overrated band of all time ..Daltrey was an excellent tunesmith in his day ..but that aside .. nothing special
At all ….
How silly !!!
🙄
Horrible!
