    • @DFurlanete
      @DFurlanete 4 роки тому +6

I started on Monemvasia (southern tip of Greece) in the 769 start, because that was the only hellenic start I could find without creating a custom one. It took me three tries to figure out I would get killed if I didn't make a secret society and pretended to turn to Orthodoxy, then two more just to avoid getting killed in general by the duke that was above me. After that I managed to get things going and secretly convert my entire court to hellenic in a few generations, and I spent most of that time taking over the duchy and then Epirus. Oddly enough, though, in this world Lombardy became as huge a power as the Byzantines and took most of Italy and the surrounding area as well, so I had to spend a few generations marrying my way into controlling more and more of the Byzantine Empire, up until I got really lucky and found a way to split Lombardy apart with just two murders, which I promptly did. That allowed me to pick up a few territories in the aftermath and reform the Hellenic faith with it, and from there on conquer the rest of Italy, which finally let me become a proper challenge to the Emperor, take his power, and declare the reformation of the Roman Empire. It's a bit messy and I still have a lot of ground to reconquer, but I managed it just slightly after the turn of the millenium.

I remember doing my own Hellenic Rome playthrough. I managed to get the child of Satan event, made him my heir (well, he did that on his own by killing all my other kids), and finally restored Rome with him when he inherited. Somehow he got the 'voice of Jesus' modifier which gives +30 martial for like 10 years, was crazy OP. So, as Satan, I figured what better way to celebrate than to mend the schism, followed by converting to Hellenism. Is it really destroying the church if you speak with the voice of Jesus?
All the religion changes kind of broke my satanic secret society though.

Jon, if you're fighting the war for your liege you should talk to your liege and say you with to 'join his war', otherwise the battles you win won't count towards your liege's warscore. [You can join your liege's war by either asking him directly, or by clicking on the war score indicator (bottom right of the screen) and pressing the ++> button (which is the join war button)] Currently you're fighting wars you are not responsible for :p
Just because your liege is at war doesn't mean that you are at war ^-^ (handy to know when you join the byzantines so you don't fight the seljuks on their behalf)

My favorite moments in the games these days are those two years after a new ruler takes over and the council is discontent and whatever idiot child the previous ruler spawned is trying to hold everything together, rifling through his family tree to find someone he can marry off right now to pull a powerful vassal out of a faction.

Seeing you start there makes me kinda happy. Whenever I tried playing Crusader Kings 2, I would start in a position to reconstitute the Duchy of Bosnia as soon as I could. I never lasted long because that's a tough start and I've really not got enough knowledge about the game to make it work.
The most annoying (but also amusing) thing that happened to me was my female heir getting an offer for matrilineal marriage from the Byzantine heir. I was utterly confused, but I took it anyway. Not even a year after that, before she even had a chance to have a kid, let alone a male heir, that bastard died and I ended up losing what meager territory I had.

Fun fact: Choirosphaktes means "pig-slayer" in Greek. Leo Choirosphaktes was a 9th and early 10th-century scholar and diplomat who served Basil I and Leo VI. He carried out diplomatic and other duties until he got involved in some would-be palace coup and was forced to become a monk. His literary works are interesting sources for the early Macedonian Renaissance.

When you're looking at mercs, look you should take into account the composition of the troops. If you're getting 1900 troops, that won't really matter if they're all light infantry; a topless dude with an axe won't do massively well against a Knight in full plate with a zweihander

It's the constant civil wars, spiced up by the closest Muslim realm declaring an invasion when you're busy fighting the rebels, so either you lose the throne fighting the Muslims, or they carve a kingdom out of the Empire. Or both

No sign of the Bulgarian army he says, as a (relatively) giant doomstack of Bulgarians are sieging the capital next door. I joke, I joke, multitasking playing the game and being entertaining at the same time is probably hard as hell.
You should have revoked the barony at the begining. Would get way more troops then and complete control of al baronies in your capital county. Its a good idea to have as many baronies you can in one county, cause your marhals bonus applies to all of them in the county meaning you can get a extremely large amount of extra troops.
Also, Venice won the war and took one of the cities, its what the merchant republics can do a city first, then the county next time around.
If your liege the duke have a son, then that is a good thing. Cause then he would be willing to marry his daughter of to you as she no longer is the primary heir. Then all you need to do is murder the son and voila! You are set to inherit.
Good stuff tough! I was entertained.
You could see if you can get around to marrying a pagan lady somehow and secretly adopt their faith, see if that is enough to join one of the societies. I know you can join the assassins with a secret conversion, I had a lot of fun doing that with immortal character, he has done a stint as a leader of pretty much every society he can.
You should ask people you invite of different religion to to your court for your council to convert to your religion, for that bonus to opinion and to avoid being forced to burn the poor fellows.
Oh, and when you get around to being part of the byzantine, try and become the shadow emperor for a while, just for shit and giggles. That is, you are the king of the entire byzantine empire except for the emperors direct holdings. So basically you rule everything and is the emperor in all but name as everyone answers to you. Use dukal vice royalties liberally to manage your vasals, to make them happy and keep them below the vassal limit. Should be grand fun!
    ,
By the end of the video you manually released the prisoners, you can use the little square box with the selection to automatically release all prisoners according your selection. And btw, an important new feature is that you can actually hire prisoners now, if they are landless and like you enough. A neat little trick, particularly if you like collecting bloodlines like I do.

    Oh Jon...
Venice took the city from Croatia in the county of Senj, which is why that county now has a little Venetian shield inside it.
Bulgaria, although filled with Orthodox vassals, now has a Tengri king.
Offering the king of Serbia to join the war against Ragusa would have allowed your victories to count toward his war score.
Do try not to disband your units outside of Serbian territory. It worked out fine this time, though.
You could have let one day pass after you borrowed the money and before you hired the mercenaries to complete the Build a War Chest ambition.
Even as a Count, having your chaplain help with technology is good, since it increased the rate of spread from nearby lands, without points. Watch for rotating gears on the Technology menu.
Your son needs a wife. Maybe someone in your dungeon would have been willing to join your court, and then marry him.
Still, it's so incredibly good to see you back in this game. It's always so fun and entertaining.

Some nice information about your house: Leo Choirosphaktes, sometimes Latinized as Choerosphactes and also known as Leo Magistros or Leo Magister, was a Byzantine official who rose to high office under Emperor Basil I the Macedonian (867-886 and served as an envoy under Emperor Leo VI the Wise . 886-912 to Bulgaria and the Abbasid Caliphate. Choirosphaktes was also a well-educated and prominent scholar and writer, many of whose works and correspondence survive.
