Hi, it was me who sent those weird things! I'm sorry the description didn't reach you, I wrote it separately! The white thing is compressed milk powder and Larb isn't labrador but a Thai spicy salad lol By the way, your faces were phenomenal, esp. when you ate the squid.
I'm so jealous I've had some of these things before and have never been able to find them in my country. :( We have many foreign food shops that have thai and korean and japanese foods but none of the good stuff hahaha :)
The white circle shape is nom-ad("a" like british "a" sound)-med literally means "powder milk compressed in tablets" or simply "Milk tablets". The one you ate is the product of Royal Chitralada Projects (at Dusit Palace, where our King live). I am actually eating them right now haha.
I don't think we're uneducated though. I ought to think that we're not confident with our skils enough to finally use it on public or on the internet. so we won't use it, like at all 5555.
Michael Melbourn Honestly, I think I'm pretty comfortable with my English, though I have a lot to improve. But eh, I'm just a typical 12th grade who fell in love with foreign languages. But sorry to be skeptical here. How do you manage to get a good English like that? Your writing blows me away. Especially for someone who doesn't got many opportunity for education.
The milk tablets are made by real milk, high quality product but cheap and they're produced by the king's dairy farm and factory in Chitralada Royal Villa. Chitralada is the brandname for many of his products. the milk tablet is my favorite and there are chocolate flavour as well. The product of Chitralada are non-profits but for encouraging people to consume goods produced in cheap price.
You two guys very funny, I'm very enjoy your video In thailand you can find a lot of snack, Every things are very cheap Every snack that you pickup only 5 baht (1 USD = 30 BHT) Thanks
that white tablet is actually a Milk Tablet, it's our king's creation because of the milk is flooding the market and lots of it go to waste so our King turn them to milk tablet sweets. ✌🏼️
oh marvellous you two make a good double act :P can tell there was a lot of surreal scenarios and 80s references getting mentioned that day lol love it :) also yeah I'm with you on the liquorice.... bad times
From the way you described the taste of those mints of sorts, they sound like what we in Italy call "Galatine", they are these round milky things shaped exactly like those, which dissolve in your mouth and create this creamy milky paste. That last part sounded very wrong, but they're good.
Barry Lewis I have no clue if Galatine exist in the UK, but if you can import a packet from pizzaland (aka Italy), I'm thinking they might be just what you are looking for. www.galatine.it/

Mr Lewis an father of two cute and funny girls and a man married to a funny and great woman and mother to the girls. And he’s got a good attitude and a great laugh and Stuart Ashens is a great companion to him gives me hours of joy and laughter
Hi Barry! Greetings from NYC. This is the first video of yours I've seen (via Ashen) and it's terrific! Your pleasant attitude and positive presence in the comment section creates a welcoming atmosphere, making an instant fan of me! I'll surely watch all your videos. Keep up the great work! All the best to you and your family.
Lol Judging by some of his reactions from the Thai "treats", I reckon he'd be get back to his twenty five year old baby food, and 40 year old Royal beer 😅 Do you like Ashens or Barry best?
The mysterious tablet is actually a milk tablet. It's very popular snack name for its taste, quality and inexpensive called "Suan Dusit milk tablet." And the Laab is Thai dish that mainly made from meat with a mix of some spices (lime juice, red onion, mint leaves, chili powder).
Whoever sent you these have good taste and are very thoughtful! These are all my all time favorites, too. Especially Party, Cornpuff and milk pallets, they're been with us for more than 20 years! :D Glad you enjoy them!
Now I want to see a Poundland special where you make a meal with ingredients sources from Poundland things like those awful Hunger Breaks food. Came here as an Ashens fan, left as a Virgin Kitchen's fan. (Subscribed and will spend the night checking out your channel.) Thanks!
Packaging would be extra strong due to the high humidity in Thailand meaning "crispy" things would not stay that way long unless they were sealed. There are a lot of foods locally from Indonesia that are quite similar with the spice level.
Ashens and Barry?! I can honestly say I never expected you two to do a video together. This is great! Now Barry has to do a poundland special with Ashens.
It's always pleasantly surprising - infectious, even - to see Stuart actually enjoy what he's eating for once lol. Basically all of this stuff sounds really good actually.
You did very good job in choosing snacks that popular in Thailand unlike some other channels that usually pick snacks that even many Thai people don't know about it!
Milk tablets are great! They are from the royal project aims to help farmer and also to produce high quality foods that is as cheap as they can (that explains the boring package). I grew up with it and it was my favourite snacks =D
I had some real Durian chips before. It was like I popped a hot summer dumpster in my mouth. The aftertaste lasted for hours, brushing my teeth and mouthwash only made it seem like slightly minty garbage juices.
The white packet with the "buddha" is Dusit brand Milk Candy tablets. ...Larb is a eastern thai spiced minced meat salad (usually pork or chicken)......and tamarind is a fruit...pulpy, sweet and very tart at the same time. Well I found that a lot of the foods I hate in England I love in other countries where they have nicer versions of them. Tomatoes in Cuba are lovely large and sweet, but in England they are bitter and horrible, and marzipan made in Germany using crushed almonds if gorgeous, but the horrid flavoured marzipan in England is foul.
@@user-yv2cz8oj1k You're obviously buying low quality tomatoes, because I've never had a bitter one in the UK, and freshly made battenberg is delicious there. I have to say the UK has the best snacks too
Surimi - fish (often pollock) that is minced to make a gelatinous paste that is then flavored, reformed into flakes, sticks, or other shapes, and colored. It is used as a crab substitute.

Your great really entertaining and a great cook.btw an idea for your big cooking thing a massive pizza or a huge haribo. Good luck with the new vids and I just want to say you are epic :)
I'm Thai and very familiar with all these snacks. It sure fun to see you guys tried our snack. If anyone have any question please do ask. Happy eating guy! :).
The white milk button is compressed flavor milk. They actually came in 2 flavor. "Sweet" white one they tasted and another chocolate flavor one. They are quite cheap as well.
Barry Lewis My grandmother has actually made Laab for me before (she's Thai). This is a recipe, if it would interest you. www.thaitable.com/thai/recipe/laab
Those white tablets (12:53) are pure milk :-) It's actually a Royal project by our King for more than 40 years now. He started only with 6 cows as a pilot project then tried many different ways to distribute the milk as it was affordable source of calcium. Until around 1969 the price of fresh milk was so low, farmers couldn't get the good price for selling milk alone, that's why he came up with this "Milk tablets" project. The packaging has never changed since the project has been launched. I personally love it, too bad since I live abroad now it's harder to get :)
Thais here, that white tablet you ate there literally translated to 'sweet flavored milk tablet' We usually just called them milk tablet. There's also a chocolate flavored variant, which many people also like.
I bought the chocolate milk tablets when I was in Thailand, and thought it would dissolve in hot water and make instant hot chocolate. But I get it now ,it's candy you just pop them in your mouth.
You asked in the video, I found it Barry: From Wikipedia: Surimi (Japanese: 擂り身, すり身, literally "ground meat") refers to a paste made from fish or other meat, as well as multiple Asian foods that use surimi as its primary ingredient. It is available in many shapes, forms, and textures, and often used to mimic the texture and color of the meat of lobster, crab, and other shellfish.
Is this the first video of them together? They're so funny together! I just started watching both Ashen and Barry's channels and in the newer videos it's almost like they've known each other since childhood.
That package which has a chillin buddha, it's actually royal chitlada brand sweetened milk flovoured tablets made from two main ingredients ,powdered milk and icing sugar
Good stuff. I was hoping for a classic Ashens of almost being sick! Always a delight. Thanks for the recommendations for when I head off that way for holiday.
Ohh this brings me back. There was a tub of pork floss in the pantry at home and for snacks my mom would take little pinches of it and wrap it in sticky rice so they looked like little balls (I suppose somewhat close to onigiri but no where near enough rice). Anyway, I loved it and this video makes me want to make some now hahah! Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've seen any around the house.
Got to say, out of all of the collaborations Ashens have done so far with other UA-camrs, you have been the best so far :D You guys seriously work well together, I really hope you guys do well together as that was the best so far.
Surimi is basically generic white fish protein. It's used to bulk out other products. It's the stuff "crab sticks" are actually made of. Or it can apparantly be a meat equivalent. I've only encountered the fish kind.
Tamarind is actually both a spice and a treat depending on when you use it. When raw it produces a very sour flavor that is usually used for spice in soups/broth in Filipino cuisine. It becomes a treat when the fruit ripens into a brown "bean" and you can actually eat it directly from the pod. It tastes tangy and sour from what I can describe it as. If you want reference google image "Sinigang".
Surimi is sold here in Australia too. It's a sort of imitation crab meat made of all sorts of minced up white fish, reformed into a flaky texture and coloured to look like crab meat. Its actually pretty nice to eat and is commonly referred to as seafood extender.
I love seeing you do stuff with Ashens! You clearly have an enthusiasm for food and yourself and ashens are very funny together. You've earned my sub:)
Surimi (Japanese: 擂り身, すり身, literally "ground meat") refers to a paste made from fish or other meat, as well as multiple Asian foods that use surimi as its primary ingredient. It is available in many shapes, forms, and textures, and often used to mimic the texture and color of the meat of lobster, crab, and other shellfish. The most common surimi product in the Western market is imitation crab meat. Such a product often is sold as krab, imitation crab and mock crab in America, and as seafood sticks, crab sticks, fish sticks or seafood extender in Commonwealth nations. In Britain the product is sometimes known as Ocean sticks, to avoid trading standards issues regarding mis-advertisement.
12:51 that thing is one of my favorite! I always buy it at 7-11. It made of milk and there is another favor which is chocolate one but i think the one you guy got is the best! I will definitely buy it once i get back there!
Tamarindos are one of the most common type of candy you guys can find here in México too, both in sweet or spicy versions. One of the best things you can get here actually, really nice candies.
Wow, I have been watching you for about a week now but have been watching ashens for quite awhile and BAM here you both are!!! If you deepfry squid, use super hot oil and take it out of the oil as soon as it floats, thats how you get lovely buttery melt in your mouth squid!

+GummyTumor Don't think so but there's a bashens playlist so you can always check that out if you haven't already
I have to say I came here from Ashens' channel and was not disappointed. Got a new subscriber in me. Keep up the good work Barry.
Ashens is everywhere!
haha yeah even in the local cinema
That package which has a chillin buddha, it's actually royal chitlada brand sweetened milk flovoured tablets made from two main ingredients ,powdered milk and icing sugar
Ashens's eating good food? Blimey
Good stuff. I was hoping for a classic Ashens of almost being sick!
Always a delight.
Thanks for the recommendations for when I head off that way for holiday.
That hand-motion at 22:53 is pretty .... naughty. It made me laugh, though.
Loved the video!
lol
Ohh this brings me back. There was a tub of pork floss in the pantry at home and for snacks my mom would take little pinches of it and wrap it in sticky rice so they looked like little balls (I suppose somewhat close to onigiri but no where near enough rice).
Anyway, I loved it and this video makes me want to make some now hahah! Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've seen any around the house.
Surimi is Japanese - basically mashed fish.
Got to say, out of all of the collaborations Ashens have done so far with other UA-camrs, you have been the best so far :D You guys seriously work well together, I really hope you guys do well together as that was the best so far.
Many thanks to ashens for bringing me here - considering making the cheesesteak tomorrow :D
It is super easy, i'm not a chef just taught myself on here
Barry Lewis You sound like my kind of cooking instructor.
Surimi is basically generic white fish protein. It's used to bulk out other products. It's the stuff "crab sticks" are actually made of.
Or it can apparantly be a meat equivalent. I've only encountered the fish kind.
You missed a trick by not saying "I can't believe it's not butter" with the first treat...Barry, Stuart, I am disappoint.
Barry doesn't like liquorice, displays a bottle of jägermeister
And Ashens loves liquorice but hates Jägermeister. What a strange world.
TBH I’ve never thought of liquorice while drinking jägermeister, though I’ve never been capable of thinking about anything while drinking it 🤣
Surimi is sold here in Australia too. It's a sort of imitation crab meat made of all sorts of minced up white fish, reformed into a flaky texture and coloured to look like crab meat. Its actually pretty nice to eat and is commonly referred to as seafood extender.
Kinda bothers Me that the clock in the background never moves, makes Me feel as though I am stuck in a freaky food timewarp.
surimi is that orange white fish stick made from paste that got various flavors from crabs to prawns
Surimi is minced white fish used as imitation crab meat.
I love seeing you do stuff with Ashens! You clearly have an enthusiasm for food and yourself and ashens are very funny together. You've earned my sub:)
the white packaging (the one is no English on) is milk tablet.
Just made from real milk and sugar

The most common surimi product in the Western market is imitation crab meat. Such a product often is sold as krab, imitation crab and mock crab in America, and as seafood sticks, crab sticks, fish sticks or seafood extender in Commonwealth nations. In Britain the product is sometimes known as Ocean sticks, to avoid trading standards issues regarding mis-advertisement.

Tamarindos are one of the most common type of candy you guys can find here in México too, both in sweet or spicy versions. One of the best things you can get here actually, really nice candies.
Ashen's got you a subscription.
Wow, I have been watching you for about a week now but have been watching ashens for quite awhile and BAM here you both are!!!
If you deepfry squid, use super hot oil and take it out of the oil as soon as it floats, thats how you get lovely buttery melt in your mouth squid!
