Iron Infusions, My Experience Dealing With Severe Anemia...

- Iron Infusions were something I had never heard of before... I've been on and off different Iron supplements/medication for years since I was pregnant with Skyler (a little over 14 years ago). Being anemic is horrible.. my anemia is so bad that I get so dizzy, I faint. I'm not a young OR small woman, so every time I fall, it hurts! It can be so exhausting waiting to feel better.. but I know I'm doing all I can and I just need to relax ( hahaha yeaaaah ok. I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, High functioning Anxiety, and Panic Attacks... Relaxing isn't something I do well with 🤷♀️)
I'm so glad to have you guys to share this with.. I know I'm not alone and I so appreciate all the love, encouragement and support you all give me! I love you guys!! ❤

as someone who is about to go through this because of severe anemia, thank you this has eased my anxiety.
How was it? I’m going to ask for it.
@@spoolspool6278 I’ve had it done 2 months ago & I had mild to moderate nausea for good 3-4 weeks after it but yes definitely felt the energy and vitality going up after 1-2 weeks for sure much more quicker than the tablets
Me too 😞
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone going through this process, my first infusion is this coming Thursday and this video is helpful… thanks you for sharing valuable information ❤
I have an iron infusion coming up on Monday I can’t wait because I’ve been having heart palpitations dizziness blurred vision because of low iron and being anemic I’m ready to have this infusions 😌😌😌😌😌God bless everyone who has to endure this 😌😌😌😌🌹🌹🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
It's so worth it!! Best of luck! xo
@@MirandaInCanada thank you
@@lynngoldsby3789 I hope you're feeling much better after your infusion. I'm also excited for mine next Monday. I think it will make a big difference. Hope you are well ❤
Everyone have no fear...this fatigue, heart palpitations, weakness, breathlessness, etc.. was killing me. Immediately felt clearer and better! I also was told it wouldn't take effect right away. As long as we're on our way, people!
@Lynn Goldsby We have same exact symptoms. My 2 infusions didn't stop palpitations because l waited so long to go to doctor. iron brought up the blood levels but not as much as they like. I am happy you're addressing it. l hope you'll be filled w energy..! I had no bad results from it at all but l believe WAITING did damage. If you don't like doc CHANGE because we need info to do our on research these days.Best of luck ..please tell me how it went 💜
Anyone that will be having an iron infusion, don't worry. I had one last week and it was literally them putting an IV in my forearm and then sitting in a comfy reclining chair for 3 hours. Nothing to worry about!
I'm scared too Penny
My mum's 92,
She is having her first one next week
I'm really scared at her age if her body
Can cope will an iron infusion,
She is so short of breath ,
We are not going to tell her what she is
Having done it will cause her more worry
Did you have any side affects
What amount did you get, I was not aware it took a longer time period.
Thank you so much I have one tomorrow
I died when you said, “I’m gonna eat that ice!”, because that is so me. Was afraid of getting iron infusions and glad to find your vid. It put me a little more at ease on getting it done.
Earring and craving ice is a symptom of anemia
I am starting my iron infusion starting Monday and I can’t wait to start. Cause I’ve been feeling tired, dizziness and blurry vision. May anyone who is going through this journey stay strong and bless
How did it go? I hope you are feeling better!!!
ameen😢😢
How it was please suggest
OMG my vision is so blurry due to low ferritin, it's awful. I can't even work, I need an iron infusion too. I need to wait for them to submit PA then they call me to schedule. Ugh so frustrating.
Three years later, now December 2023, found your video. Going in for my first infusion today. This answered my unspoken questions, and i feel more at peace going to go get them now. Thank you!!
I’m going for my first treatment this week and I’m a little nervous so I’m glad to have found this video as well as this comment
how did it go?
Had my first one yesterday and my blood pressure crashed and I became unresponsive. My limbs are swollen and painful. My face looks and feels sunburned. I was brought back with adrenaline. My arms were full of hives. Please have them give it to you slow and ck you. My reaction didn't happen until end of my infusion. Have someone stay with you for next two days!
I was given a watered down test pack before I was given the full bag. They monitored me very closely because a few people have anaphylactic shock from it.
A lot of us are going through this journey without a information/testimonials to look at… Thank you for sharing your experience!
“On the road to recovery…” I love that! Thank you so much for your vulnerability and sharing your experience. This puts me at ease in my journey to recovery. Thank you beautiful! ♥️
Going tomorrow for my first iron infusion, excited and nerves. I had a “blood” transfusion once due to low iron, never want to get that low again. Thank you for this!
How low was your iron?
My Dr wants me to get a transfusion, because my iron is 6.5
@@leahskitchen1157 Shucks...I am sitting at 4.8🤕

Thanks for taking the effort with filming this. Always nice to see Canadian content :). Quite insightful too to see the process, as most videos I've come by don't show the actual clinic/hospital experience. Hope your levels continue to climb and you feel more okay!
Thanks hun!! I actually am going to be going for more infusions soon!
Tomorrow is my first infusion, I was so nervous, but now after watching a few video like this I feel a little more comfortable, so onward and up! Thank you for sharing your experience!
Happy to hear this!! Good luck my friend! xo
@@MirandaInCanada why is there sucrose is it thats poison
Your experience n energy made me calm down! My mom has low iron n is anemic n it scared the shit out of me! She got one n didn’t tell me…had a huge fight with my parents to tell that to me next time! But it’s so scary yet nothing to worry I’m glad…..also found out anemia is very common😇! Stay blessed everyone with good wealth ! ❤️
You are such a great daughter God bless ❤
Wow! You did awesome. Thank you for the detailed information. I'm having an iron infusion Monday. Perimenopause is kicking my butt. 😭 I hope I do as well as you did so that I can have my surgery. 🙏🏾
Omg the fact you can cook dinner and drive yourself anywhere. I can’t even get out of bed I’m so anemic. Some days are better then others but I am not feeling this anemia crap at all. I guess my reason is a bleeding source and we are trying to find the source? And my iron level is in the toliet! They are ordering IV iron so thank you for recording this. I hope you feel better in a years time now.
I thought the same thing...Most people can't even function properly
Had my first blood transfusion last week and my first iron infusion next Monday. Watching your video made me feel much better and that I'm not alone.
How are you feeling currently? Hope you feel better! Much love to you and your family 💕
hey!! Since these infusions I've had 3 more, and I'm doing OK. I just had an IUD put in last week which we're hoping it will help with blood loss!!!
@@MirandaInCanada Oh I hope it works for you! My anemia is also caused by very heavy menstrual cycles and I've never been able to tolerate birth control pills. I'll be interested to hear your success with this! Hang in there!
Your video answered the question of whether or not I can drive myself to these infusions. Thank you for documenting your experience.
I drove to and from my infusions every time! I sometimes was tired, but my drive home was only 25-30 mins
Thank you for sharing your experience. I just found out today that I'll get 3 infusions starting next week so seeing this helped me. I hope you are feeling better now! 😊
This video brings back memories of my iron infusions...I was diagnosed with Crohns disease and needed a bowel resection and my ferritin and Hgb are fine now...I haven't needed one for 2 years...I hope you are doing ok now...I used to chew on ice for years before I got really low...They definitely worked for me.
Hey man , I hope you're doing well now . My father just got diagnosed with Crohn's and he is constantly losing blood. His Hb is 8gm/dl now . We have got IV shots now but I wanna know is your Crohn's gone now ( considering its a life long disease ) and are you on any injections like Remicade or Humira etc .
Did you have any hair loss?
Thank you so much for filming this I start my infusions next week and im so nervous. I'm sorry you went through this.
Good luck!!
How’s it going? I’m scared to get mine
@@jayleeafraser1798 so far so good im posting my journey about it on my youtube channel though like this video.
I am so glad your video was suggested in my search, I really liked how you walked us through the experience, thanks 😊 I am having my first iron infusion tomorrow morning and not sure what to expect, however, after you video I feel less anxious about it, thanks 😊 I hope things are working on your end!
I had 4 transfusions. From chronic anemia. Then after that I had vitb12 injections. The feelings of tiredness slowly lessens and soon you realise you are more energised. Like you I also ate lots of ice and still do but not as badly as before the infusion. The ice broke my teeth so be careful with it. Sorry this comment is so long
Susan Ryder Hey love 💜 Don’t apologize for a long comment - I love them!! 💜🙌🏼
I’m on Vit B supplements as that has been low too for a long time... I’m encouraged to hear your body came around and you felt better! I’m getting tired of waiting to have my ‘full’ life back. (I’ve never been good at being patient 😝)
I wonder is being addicted to ice is an anemic thing?! I am so worried about my teeth so I usually only chew ice after it’s been melted down small in my water... but it is seriously my favourite thing to eat in the world! 🧊😋
Thanks so much for your personal experience! So glad I’m not alone in this mess! 🥰💜💕
The eating ice I am positive is from the anemia. At the time I read this from Wikipedia “Is eating ice a sign of pica?
Possibly. Doctors use the term "pica" to describe craving and chewing substances that have no nutritional value - such as ice, clay, soil or paper. Craving and chewing ice (pagophagia) is often associated with iron deficiency, with or without anemia, although the reason is unclear.” Hope that helps. I’m many moons older than you at 52 so maybe my pica is more of a habit now. Oh and I crave the ice.
Susan Ryder So interesting!! Thanks for sharing the information! You know what’s funny? I used to hate cold water! I only drank room temperature! I hated ice because I have sensitive teeth and the cold sometimes hurts. I only started craving cold water and ice last year in May! Which is when my anemia was getting worse & my supplements weren’t working like they should of. This is wild to me! I’m so glad you told me! 💜🤗
You said you were chronic...what was your levels...mine is 4 ...I am starting to panic...do you mind if I ask?
Lol
I wanna thank you for making this video cuz I just got diagnosed with severe anemia and got scheduled for iron infusions. They give you little to no info when scheduling so I was happy to watch your video and take notes! Thanks for being so candid and informative!
Glad I could help! Best of luck! I'm going back for more next month! xo
@@MirandaInCanada I am scheduled for iron infusions. I have 2 weeks infusion scheduled. My iron went down to 4. I am eating more healthy foods with iron medicine. hope nothing will be more difficult than now.
I go for my first Iron transfusion on Thursday. This made me less nervous.
Here because I go tomorrow and I’m VERY nervous 😟
It's nothing and will make you feel better! I'm very happy ( mine took 15 minutes and 30 to observe blood pressure! You'll be ok!!!! Even my face looks more vibrant.
@@trinastrong8618 Hey, I’ve been so low iron for the past few years and I’ve just refused to have iron transfusion because I am so so scared of any needles and stuff like that. My iron is at 4 right now and some how my naturopath and friends have got me open to the idea of getting it done. I was wondering if it hurt at all

Thanks for sharing this. I am nervous because I have severe anemia and it has gotten worse even with prescription supplements so now I'm going to be getting infusions and I didn't know what to expect. I really appreciate your video!
How are you now?
@@kala9907 I still get anemic but I get regular blood work and supplements. Last time I had anemia it was due to vitamin D3 and B1 I think.
Thank you for this video. I'm currently doing my first iron iv infusion.
Best of luck!
I'm getting an iron infusion soon, but i didn't know what it was and you're video was the first to pop up for me. I'm thankful for this information because now i know what to expect. Even in the comments with people sharing their stories is big help. Chewing on ice and eating Popsicles are killing my teeth though 😫😅 currently have my space heater on in the freaking summertime because I'm always cold now and i don't want to make everyone else uncomfortable in the house by turning the air off. The cravings i get are weird. I love love love the smell of Comet, and Pine sol, i don't want to eat it like some people, but i get it. Constantly winded because my body has lost a lot of blood and trying to compensate for it. The smallest task tires me out. Losing Iron is serious thing. I mean it really is a big deal. Anyway, thanks for sharing. Sorry for the long rant.
I need one of these so bad! I’ve felt awful for about a month now. I finally went to the dr last week and I just got my labs back today! They told me I didn’t need an infusion just yet 😞 but man I feel like I do. I’ve been so dizzy and weak, blurred vision and heart palpitations like crazy I can’t even get up to go to the bathroom without feeling extreme dizziness. Im so over this. It does give me peace of mind that I’m not the only one going through this.
I had very low iron and ended up in ICU having blood transfusions from Wales uk
I had one done before back in 2019. They discovered I was anemic due to another health issue and ended up in emergency room. Now I have another issue that may be causing the deficiency so I have another infusion scheduled later this week. Thank you for the video. You gave me great tips on things I need to to notice of. Being more tired and things to bring. Hope all goes well for you.
what did they find and how are u now? what u do to fix things?
Tomorrow is my first infusion. Before I watched your video I was really scared! Thank you for posting this. TAKE CARE.
Good luck!!
Hi, I made it through the first infusion thanks to you or I probably would have canceled my appointment and gone on suffering! I had a little nausea When the nurse hooked me up but I think it was from my nerves. I took my I pad and played games the whole time and before I knew it I was done and ready to go home! Next time I will drive myself like you did but this being my first time my daughter drove me and waited in the parking lot for hours- bless her heart! I'm glad I didn't expect to jump up with all this energy cuz that didn't happen. The nurse said it might be weeks before I feel better BUT thanks to you I am on the road to recovery!! I appreciate you so much! Thank you and God bless. Take care.
I just had my first infusion yesterday. I have MGUS. The thing is, I have TERRIBLE veins and already had 7 blown ones from blood tests over the last few weeks. Anemia makes veins even more fragile. Good thing the infusion center had heating pads, and heated chairs. They still had to poke me 3 times. I recommend wearing very comfortable warm clothes if you are a difficult stick, and trying to drink lots of fluids leading up to infusion day. The infusion center I was at had snacks and juice, but I was too afraid to get any because of that vein, I didn't want to move it and have the IV need to be redone. My hematologist gave me Feraheme. The medication stings a little, nothing intolerable, I think having the heating pad on low over my arm helped. The nurses wrapped it in an extra pillowcase so it didn't get too hot, they were so sweet. Some people had throw blankets, their laptop, and a stuffed animal, they let you get comfy. They also gave me a bag of saline, which yes tastes weird, especially if it is higher up on your arm. First infusion since Covid-19, and I could even smell the saline inside my face mask when they flushed my line. Today I am achy and tired, and I have a mild headache on and off as side effects. My brain fog is still really bad. The nurses told me this is all normal, and I will start to feel better in 4-5 days. I get dose #2 next Friday, and follow up with my doctor in a month.
I’m in my early 30s and am anemic and have been getting iron infusions since February of 2020. I started on this journey due to “ Mother Nature issues , ladies know what I’m talking about 😉” have had heavy “ uk” since I “ became and women “ My anemic symptoms are mainly fatigue, heart palpitations and really hungry. Have had three so far ~ once a year and I go every 6 months. Got an appointment next week for blood work and then appointment with the doctor at the clinic so we’ll see how my levels are, my last infusion was July of 2021 and I’m definitely feeling the symptoms coming back so I feel like it’s time for an infusion
How are you now
@@Themodelnetwork so much better ❤️ my levels were normal and I’m in remission ❤️ my doctor told me if I feel like I’m

I had 2 iron infusions a month ago and I’m going back to my hematologist this Thursday for blood work to see how much it helped. I have a blood transfusion May 25th before My 1st hematologist appointment because I was having heart palpitations and sweating profusely and left like I was going to die. I got 2 bag of blood which took me from a blood count of 6.2 to and 8 now I’m hoping that the iron infusions took my blood count to a 10 or more so I can have a hysterectomy on august 25th. I won’t be cleared for surgery if it’s not a 10 or more… pray for me…
Omg your definitely in my prayers
Sounds like my condition…. Hopefully your feeling better, and was able to get your surgery!
I get to go in for one in about 2 hours. I have had many, many IVs before, but this is the first for iron. It is nice to know what to expect. You don't look that old to me. I am almost 65, and you don't look that big, but I will readily agree with you that falls hurt and the older you get, the harder to come back from they are. Used to be if you fell, you just get up, dust your butt off and carry on but at my age, that could easily be a 911 call in progress.
You took it like a trooper. Good job and your videos are a real help. I also have severe anemia, so I am curious to know if it works and how you feel once it works.
Thanks for sharing, I am scheduled to have mine and was inquisitive, thanks to you, I am much calmer with a glimpse of what to expect. Thanks a bunch.
I have Chronic Kidney Disease and I have had to have blood transfusions and I take iron daily but it is not enough so now I am going to have to have iron infusions. The blood transfusions we're a bit scared and exhausting for me. I am sorry that you have to have the infusions. Praying for you ❤️🙏
Going in for mine tomorrow, glad I found this video because they didn’t give me any information when scheduling.
I hope you feel better!!! I start my iron infusions next month.
They work! Good luck! xo
The first time I had my infusions my body reacted to it they give me benadryl with it I also get a full bag of fluids first because I get dehydrated all the time I get a full bad of iron, first time was scary but it didn't hurt was just wiped out. I'm due for another set in 2 days my levels are always so low I have bone marrow issues,, but going through it before has prepared me I bring orange juice because it helps and a blanket coloring books and crayons. I also make sure I have all housework chores done and I get microwave easy stuff for my teenage kids because once I start infusions I'm down for the count l get so exhausted and pretty much can't do much of anything after. I thank you so much for sharing this because of covid nobody can come in with me I go to the cancer center in the hospital, but I thank you because my kids watched your video and were able to see what it's like. I hope you are feeling much better and are well I wish you all the best I know it's hard to suffer from theese things but knowing I'm not alone truly helps . oh also I taste it too its so weird right lol👑❤

Never heard of this before. I am developing symptoms of anaemia including shortness of breath, racing heartbeat, light headedness, fatigue. My mother has pernicious anaemia, I am hoping I do not have that type. I have started using iron spray, b12 and folate patches as I have issues with my digestive system. It’s quite frustrating getting up and feeling so exhausted after a full nights sleep.
My first iron infusion is tomorrow. Thank you so much for making this vlog it is really helping me have the courage to face the infusions. I'm having the same product you had so hopefully three sessions does the trick for me.

Hi! Do you know what was causing the iron deficiency? Thank you for sharing your story 💗
Thank you for this video. I have severe low iron due to fibroids causing excessive bleeding and will be receiving these kind of treatments soon. I am facing a decision on whether to have a full hysterotomy or a fibroid treatment. There is some risk in the surgery due to location of one of them and they are both about 10cm large! I am horrified my female doctors did not say or do something earlier (fibroids first found in 2012). Now that I moved and have a male doctor, he was determined to get to the bottom of why my iron was low and I am so thankful. Scared out of my mind based on what I learned today so your video helped ease at least one part of my question, "what the heck does an iron infusion entail!" Thanks for all the tips and warnings about bringing things, how you'd feel, and also about the cost! I am a Canadian too. Thanks so much for this.
Same here! I started my first iron drip today. I have fibroids and I’m terrified because, I haven’t had kids yet. I have an appointment with my obgyn next week. My thoughts and prayers are with you❤️❤️
I have to get iron infusions about every four months. I have heavy menstrual bleeding that causes me to have very low iron.. I bleed crazy heavily. I have tried birth control pills and now I do take this acid medicine while I'm on my period. I'm not sure if I can say it helps. The birth control pills didn't help either. Aftery infusion I do start to feel better within a week. I am tired of being tired from low iron. I try to take the iron pills but they make me feel sick when I do. I don't like it when one of my doctors say to me " it's a band-aid effect when you get the infusion" . I have tried the other things she told me to. This is out of my control that I bleed this way. And if this is what I have to do to feel better than so be it. I don't know anyone who has this problem like I do. So thank you for your video. Take care.
I have the same problem. And no gyn wants to do a hysterectomy without you first going through the steps to try to correct it. For me, nothing has helped and i now have fibroids causing more bleeding. My health journey has been a fight from day one. Good luck to you ❤
Eating Ice is an Anemic thing.
I have a craving for the smell of coal, recently on iron but hopefully they trace it back to a stomach bleed been ten months with a five hemaglobin count .They use Argon gas to seal the bled fingers crossed

I have been so sick for 18 months. Dizzy, nauseous, newly developed tachycardia, too lethargic to leave my house. I constantly feel like I'm going to pass out or fall. I don't want to sound dramatic, but it has felt like my body is dying. I saw my endocrinologist yesterday and she scheduled me for an iron infusion tomorrow. As sick as I have been, I want to feel excited at the possibility of feeling better, but I'm scared. I appreciate your video so much. It's easing some of my worries. Is the blood pressure drop normal? She didn't mention that 😔
Hey! Update? Did it ever help?
Hi please get back to me as soon as yiu can please
Any updates?!
Use Iron Isomaltoside ( Monoferric in the US ) instead of Venofer ( Iron Sucrose ) . Iron sucrose takes far higher doses & has many more side effects than isomaltoside. Its expensive than Venofer but you only need to get it once .

I felt better the next day. So much energy!
Im going for my first infusion in a couple of weeks. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I know this is an older video, but I'm going through this pretty much as you are, and it is such a relief to hear that you are experiencing the same things I am - like extreme tiredness in general and with the infusion itself, the dizziness, the worries about driving when you're so tired/dizzy, etc. I think it's easy to be hard on yourself when you've gotten used to feeling crappy and you're wondering how people work a full day and still have energy to exercise and socialize or work on a hobby.
I had to laugh about the ice thing - my ice cravings were the thing that sent me to the doc to ask about iron deficiency - I love ice so much.
One thing you didn't mention was any cognitive issues - I have some annoying brain fog days and I'm wondering if that's something you've experienced. No one really talks about how deficiency affects the brain.
I don't know why, but I have been dreading this. My doc told me I needed iron infusions and I promptly ignored that advice and opted for iron pills which did nothing, so probably want to listen to the frickin' medical professional, lol. I am so so so glad YT exists, because watching you go through this, I do feel a bit more calm about it. It's funny because years ago, I used to give blood before anemia and my condition ended that, and the process reminds me of the platelet donations I used to give---you're hooked up to this machine for like 2 hours that just cycles through your blood mining for platelets. Anyway, like you, I am ready to feel better because wearing a mask and barely being able to breathe and feeling dizzy and sweaty are not a good look.
I used to donate blood and plasma also. While the donation clinics were grateful, my veins were so lousy even back then...the staff was like, "you need to find another way to be charitable, because you do not have any extra blood to give!" 😂😅
@@jessicah3450 It was truly a sad day for me because I had made it my goal to donate once a month, and I loved it because it literally was the laziest way to help save or help lives. I used to come at an off time of the day so I was usually only one of a few people in there and they would take THE best care of me. Sometimes they would sit and have a full on conversation for the 2+ hours it took for the platelet donation so it was definitely hard hearing that "we love that you are a regular, but you've been rejected 3x now so we don't think you should come back at least for a while." I jokingly said, are you breaking up with me!?! But honestly it was that, because I've never been able to come back.
@@Banyo__ what caused the low iron? apparently donating messes up ur blood we r not supposed to loose blood like tjat its like liquid gold
Thank you! I'm getting my first of 5 Infusions tomorrow. Iron level 4. EEKS! I'm nervous but excited and ready to feel "normal?" again.
Happy birthday. Sorry you have to do all this the day after. But if it gets you well then that's the main thing. X
Thank you for making this video. I have my first infusion tomorrow and it looks like what I imagined. ♥️
How did it go for you? I get my first in 3 days
Thank you so much for sharing .Have never had an iron envision and now can see what it is all about for my upcoming appointment.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I have to go for iron infusions very soon. This was very informative and helpful.
How did your iron infusions go?
I’m anemic. I was getting b12 shots and taking iron capsules. The iron capsules had a side effect that I really didn’t like. So, I stopped taking them. I also stopped the b12 shots after having 3 all together of them. I was supposed to go last week and I blew it off. I told the doctor about stopping the iron and he never called me or said anything about it. Guess he doesn’t care. I hope you are feeling better soon.
Hi thanks for this video! Im getting my infusion Monday for the first time and i am sooo scared but thanks to you i feel better towards the procedure. Quick question those bottles that you pick up from the pharmacy, what are they? My doctor didn’t give me that :( do i need them? Should i ask? Thank you!
Im getting one on Wednesday. I'm nervous. I'm getting infed iron dextran. That it takes 4 to 6 hours.
I had some done while being in the hospital as well as blood Transfusions
I tried getting my iron infusion yesterday. My ferritin levels are very low and I have thalassemia trait. The combination of two has been leading to very low hemoglobin. I am scheduled to go through a major surgery coming month, so the doctor wanted to up the iron content. Hematologist asked me to get at least one dose of iron infusion. I had a bad intuition about it, but decided to go ahead with it. I was told the severe side effects are rash etc. I wasn't told that one of the side effects could be anaphylactic shock, which is life threatening. The probability of this side effect is extremely low. Within a couple of seconds of it starting, I started getting chest pain. I rang the bell. Another second passed and I had gone into a shock. I thought I was getting a heart attack. My body was shaking and I could not breathe...breathing was very labored and heavy. It felt like someone is squeezing my chest from both the sides. I was getting an anaphylactic shock. Thankfully, all of the nurses, including the head nurse, quickly got into action. I got saved. A few more seconds and I would have died. Nurses tell me that my face was very red. After 24 hours, I still have labored breathing and a numb hand. Of course, my case was recorded and would go to FDA. But, I thought I should share it. Do it only if you really need it. Try taking a massive dose of supplements, even if it makes you feel sick. I know the probabilities are really low of getting a shock. I got Feraheme (costs about 4000 bucks a dose; covered by my insurance) . It is supposed to have really low risk and yet I had a near death experience.
Prayers sent up for you and that you’re doing better
You can try regular iron dextrose there is less risk of reaction, they should be giving you a dose of antihistamine before the infusion begins to prevent a reaction
Thank you for this video!!! I am 31 weeks pregnant and I have an iron infusion coming up next Monday, I have to get infusions once a week for 4 weeks….. I’ve always been anemic but my levels have dropped lower during pregnancy and iron pills aren’t bringing my hb levels up enough.
This video was so helpful to let me know what to expect and how to prepare myself to be as comfortable as possible for a few hrs of sittin still lol.
Same how did it go?
I am scheduled for 5 infusions and I’ve had two. The first one was fine and the second one my bones feel like they are breaking. My hematologist said it’s my bone marrow reacting to the iron it’s not used to. But other than that, so far so good. One change I noticed after the first dose was that I had less heart palpitations. After the second dose, yes, my long bones are aching, but I was able to walk around an historic Christmas village and not feel like I was going to die from exertion. I walked about 4 miles which would have had my heart pounding and me not able to catch my breath. So I’m hoping after the 5th I’ll feel fabulous!
My iron sat was critical low 4!! My hgb was 6.6 had to get blood, 1 unit. Due to severe anemia. My first infusion made me sick. My 2nd infusion made have flu like symptoms, swollen lymph nodes, chills, lightheaded, headache , extreme nausea for about two days! Hysterectomy next week...hopin all this makes me feel better.
Are you fine now?
Did you also have fever?
Rewatch 1-30-2023 I was severely anemic till I went through the change at an early age. Since then I've been pretty even
Awe feel better soon darlin. Yes i taste certain injections as well. Id tell the nurse at the time and they said oh really..never heard that before lol. Anyhow i believe you! Hugs🌺💞🌺💞🌺💞
Right? They taste weird!! (And smell weird too!) Curtis said he’s had a few patients say the same then when he’s giving them an IV. Maybe we’re just more “in tune” with our bodies 🤓
Hugs and love sent right back to you my girl!! Xox 🥰💜🌸
I can taste the saline when they flush my line also. My IV was in my arm this time, but I have had a central line before, and you can taste it even more with those. It's a thing, it's not just you ❤️🙂
Hello, I’m supposed to get an iron infusion soon and I hate needles so I’m so nervous. Thank you for sharing your experience
I’m also a maritimer from Nova Scotia 😂
I wish you all the best. I'm waiting to hear back on whether I will be getting an iron infusion for my anemia. I was super sick for several months and my iron months later is still low and affecting me. I thankfully have a port and do infusions multiple times a week so thankfully I will be able to use my port. I've been know to have anemia multiple times throughout my life and take iron everyday via mouth, but still having low iron. We will see. Hopefully, it helped you and continues to.
I had an iron transfusion followed by a blood transfusion and was to return 3days later for another one of blood but had a bad fall after 48 hours. I was staggering from side to side and then there was nothing from knees down so I face planted in hallway.. After 5 hours I managed to get myself to keys and phone. The paramedics got me up and said I had UTI. Doctor sent me for 2nd transfusion but was given antibiotics and had to return in 3days. Had 2nd blood and was okay except tablets hadn't cleared infection. Was to get more tabs but after 3days pharmacist informed me they would take 6days to come. That night I had another fall similar to first and again lay hours then was taken to hospital put on several drips as kidneys were dry? On 3rd day awoke to find swollen ankles, feet and bright red rash from knees to toes with some skin falling off which one person eventually said was to do with transfusion! Returned home after 8 days and feel like I've been through hell.
I eat ice like crazy as well! I have my first infusion in 2 days. 😑Nervous. That's why I'm looking up videos about reactions. Haha
Good luck!!
I'm on my 3rd, this Friday. Second one went better than first.
@@oilinmylamp I am nervous too. Any suggestions? This video was helpful! The check list is the best advice so far :) but I am afraid I feel dizzy. Please share a bit your experience
@@andreamonroy3693 Well, I had 3 infusions and now I no longer eat ice. I don't even desire 1 piece. Isn't that crazy!?!?!? And I used to eat a bucket a day!! It took well. I did have a couple of things happen right before my 3rd infusion, but I don't know if it was related so I don't want to put unnecessary concerns. I feel great now and it has been a while. Just had my follow up and she said I took to it well and my numbers are up!
My first infusion, did have an ache and it would burn a little and we both thought it was because it was cold. But it did bruise slightly nothing major, and went away. The other 2x didn't hurt or burn or bruise at all.
(PS...I did NOT have any body aches at all.)
Don't stress over it (easier said than done when on the front side of the experience), but honestly fretting makes us more ill than anything.
I'm going to pray:
Father, in the Name of Jesus, I pray that You comfort Miss Andrea on her journey with these iron infusions. Giver her Peace of mind and heart. Take away all her fears. Grant her a calm spirit and peace and rest in You. In Jesus' Name amen.
Let me know how it goes!!! God bless you.
@@oilinmylamp thank you so much for your words and prayers. I am happy you are feeling better 🤗
Just stumbled onto this video. I get monthly Venofer infusions, they’re not a big deal at all. Mine takes about 30-45 minutes at the most. It beats the hell out of low hemoglobin & iron. It gets easier every time! Relax, listen to some music, it’s not that big of a deal. RELAX!!
Thank you posting. I have to go in for an infusion next week
Hello beautiful lady. It’s so reassuring to see you get the care you need. Especially during this time. Praying for your health to be fully restored. I appreciate you sharing, it’s very informative on how our bodies can need things we don’t know they are lacking. I hope today you’re feeling much better after the treatments you’ve gotten. BTW.....get that ice cream! Always😉 Sending love and prayers from Alabama❤️
YASSS GIRL 🍦🍦🍦🍦!! 🙌🏼 I didn’t on that day.. I was sooo exhausted & dizzy so I came home and slept until morning!
But I will have an ice cream this weekend just for you! 😝🙌🏼🍦
Thank you as always for your prayers! 💜 I am feeling covered in love by God right now and I totally believe it’s all because of the power of prayer! 🙏🏼💜 I am so blessed to know you & have you in my corner 💕🥰💜 I am so ready to be fully restored in health! Patience is not one of my skills 😂
Love, hugs and prayers for you too my girl xoxo 🥰
Having a iron transfusion is it ok to drink coffee after, thanks
Thanks for sharing this. I've been having serious dizziness, heart palpitations, exhaustion, etc for some time now. I was going to the same doctor for 11 years. He said I had low iron told me to take a supplement. Changed doctor's because he just was not working out for me. First visit and I get a call saying you need iron infusions. Looked at the symptoms of severely low iron and every one there is I have almost. How could he have missed that? Anyways, I was curious about everyone's experience. Thank you for sharing yours.
Alisha is a great nurse💕💕💕💕💕
I am 29 weeks pregnant, with hb level 8. I went through my first iron infusion 2 days ago. I had deep sleep without waking up for shortness of breathe after weeks, but having nausea, headache and vomiting since then.
I have been getting iron infusions since 2018 every 2 or 3 months till now 2024.i still to this day haven't felt good always weak.i wish you so much luck
I’m about to go today (1/20/25) to have an iron infusion done. My iron level is a 12. I have tried iron pills before but they upset my stomach so I stopped take them. I also have ulcerative colitis as well. I didn’t realize the severity of how low my iron actually was until the cancer center called me for my lab results and I asked what my number was. I’m scared to get it done because people have told me of the various side effects and I’m planing to go to work after I get mine done.
Getting ready to go through this myself, thanks for taking us through your experience
Also, the taste thing is totally a thing! When I get vaccines I can taste them for several hours afterwards...it's the weirdest thing.
I just had my first infusion last Friday at Cleveland Clinic in Florida. I was exhausted for two days afterward and that passed. My infusion was in a large bag iv. I sat for two hours while it dripped. I had to have a test bag first to make sure I didn’t have a negative reaction. That took about 45 minutes. I was told it will take 4-6 weeks before I feel the full effects. I just want my mojo back.
I get my first infusion on Friday. Thank you for making this video.
Best of luck!
@@MirandaInCanada it went really well. I now have a weird taste in my mouth and have nausea. My first infusion was on Friday and my next one is this Friday. Did you experience the taste in your mouth for a while and any nausea?
