I was raised Catholic and got saved by Jesus Christ himself. Changed my life and I never forgot it. I went to the catholic priest to discuss what happened and he reprimanded me and made me feel like I should be ashamed because I told him about my real experience with Jesus Christ. I never looked back. I still have a relationship with Jesus and he has shown me over and over how much he loves me.

      " he reprimanded me "
Well for sure that was poor of him.
"got saved by Jesus Christ himself. "
You were saved when you were baptized, having the Holy Spirit and sanctifying grace restored to your soul, lost in the sin of Adam.
      " I still have a relationship with Jesus "
When you were Catholic, you received Jesus in the Eucharist, his body, blood, soul and Divinity. It's all part of having the relationship with Jesus that he himself instituted and desires to have with you. This is what he taught the apostles, and the apostles taught their descendants, and the descendant to theirs. Then 1500 years LATER, a couple of Catholic's in central Europe disagreed. They had no authority to do so, and even argued amongst themselves. Rather, we trust the Words of Jesus Christ:
_51 I am the living bread[c] which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.”_
_52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”[d] 53 So _*_Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; 54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever.”_*
Best to be one who believes the Words of Christ and trusts him, and not one who murmurs.

@@Vickie167 This is true, but it doesn't make the catholic church right, either. The Bible holds the answers to what we need to know. I know it's scary for some people to even consider that the church they were indoctrinated in might not be as true to Jesus and could even be a new concept that that might be true. It's not a question of right, or wrong. It's a question of how does the church one has attended all of his/her life hold true to the Bible, which is the true word of God in Christ Jesus. I was raised in the Episcopal church, but now, I just am a Christian and nothing else and my husband also calls himself a Christian and nothing else. Jesus finished it all on the cross and nothing else is needed after that except to continue to grow in Christ and the way to do that is to study the Bible.

What you need to do is thank your wife for raising your children in the Catholic Christian faith and then look to deepen your understanding of Catholicism to have a deep personal relationship with Christ ......You all need to know that Mike had a debate with Scott Hahn.... In the debate Mike was consistently and politely beaten in his arguments when he could not answer Scott he then just called him names .... Eventually it got so bad for Mike that he found he could not come back after the break... This is all recorded on youtube "Debate Scott Hahn and Mike Gendron "..... He is careful here not to give a reference to the debate but is less than honest in what has been said !!! .....,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.. I will move onto the Eucharist which he brings up here in this you tube clip . Go to the Gospel of John. John 6:30 begins in the synagogue at Capernaum. The Jews asked Jesus what sign he could perform so that they might believe in him. As a challenge, they noted that “our ancestors ate manna in the desert.” Could Jesus top that? He told them the real bread from heaven comes from the Father. “Give us this bread always,” they said. Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” At this point the Jews understood him to be speaking metaphorically.
Jesus first repeated what he said, then summarized: “‘I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.’ The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’” (John 6:51-52). His listeners were stupefied because now they understood Jesus literally-and correctly. He again repeated his words, but with even greater emphasis, and introduced the statement about drinking his blood: “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him” (John 6:53-56).
Notice that Jesus made no attempt to soften what he said, no attempt to correct “misunderstandings,” for there were none. Our Lord’s listeners understood him perfectly well. They no longer thought he was speaking metaphorically.
In John 6:60 we read: “Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, ‘This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?’” (It is here, in the rejection of the Eucharist, that Judas fell away; look at John 6:64.) “After this, many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him” (John 6:66).
This is the only record we have of any of Christ’s followers forsaking him for purely doctrinal reasons. If they erred in taking a metaphor in a literal sense, why didn’t he call them back and straighten things out? Both the Jews, who were suspicious of him, and his disciples, who had accepted everything up to this point, would have remained with him had he said he was speaking only symbolically. But he did not correct these protesters. Twelve times he said he was the bread that came down from heaven; four times he said they would have “to eat my flesh and drink my blood.” John 6 was an extended promise of what would be instituted at the Last Supper-and it was a promise that could not be more explicit.
Now when you say Christ was speaking only metaphorically by comparing verses like John 10:9 (“I am the door”) and John 15:1 (“I am the true vine”). The problem is that there is not a connection to John 6:35, “I am the bread of life.” “I am the door” and “I am the vine” make sense as metaphors because Christ is like a door-we go to heaven through him-and he is also like a vine-we get our spiritual sap through him. But Christ takes John 6:35 far beyond symbolism by saying, “For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed” (John 6:55). Jesus continues: “As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me” (John 6:57). The Greek word used for “eats” (trogon) is very blunt and has the sense of “chewing” or “gnawing.” This is not the language of metaphor.
You appeal to John 6:63: “It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” You say this means that eating real flesh is a waste. But does this make sense?
Are we to understand that Christ had just commanded his disciples to eat his flesh, then said their doing so would be pointless? Is that what “the flesh is of no avail” means? “Eat my flesh, but you’ll find it’s a waste of time”-is that what he was saying? Hardly.
In John 6:63 “flesh profits nothing” refers to mankind’s inclination to think using only what their natural human reason would tell them rather than what God would tell them. Thus in John 8:15-16 Jesus tells his opponents: “You judge according to the flesh, I judge no one. Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone that judge, but I and he who sent me.” So natural human judgment, unaided by God’s grace, is unreliable; but God’s judgment is always true.
Also in John 6:63, “The words I have spoken to you are spirit” does not mean “What I have just said is symbolic.” The word “spirit” is never used that way in the Bible. The line means that what Christ has said will be understood only through faith; only by the power of the Spirit and the drawing of the Father (cf. John 6:37, 44-45, 65).
Paul wrote to the Corinthians: “The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?” (1 Cor. 10:16). So when we receive Communion, we actually participate in the body and blood of Christ, not just eat symbols of them. Paul also said, “Therefore whoever eats the bread and drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord. . . . For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself” (1 Cor. 11:27, 29). “To answer for the body and blood” of someone meant to be guilty of a crime as serious as homicide. How could eating mere bread and wine “unworthily” be so serious? Paul’s comment makes sense only if the bread and wine became the real body and blood of Christ.
Anti-Catholics also claim the early Church took this chapter symbolically.
Ignatius of Antioch, who had been a disciple of the apostle John and who wrote a letter to the Smyrnaeans about A.D. 110, said, referring to “those who hold heterodox opinions,” that “they abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, flesh which suffered for our sins and which the Father, in his goodness, raised up again” (6:2, 7:1).
Forty years later, Justin Martyr, wrote, “Not as common bread or common drink do we receive these; but since Jesus Christ our Savior was made incarnate by the word of God and had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so too, as we have been taught, the food which has been made into the Eucharist by the Eucharistic prayer set down by him, and by the change of which our blood and flesh is nourished, . . . is both the flesh and the blood of that incarnated Jesus” (First Apology 66:1-20).
Origen, in a homily written about A.D. 244, attested to belief in the Real Presence. “You are accustomed to take part in the divine mysteries, so you know how, when you have received the Body of the Lord, you reverently exercise every care lest a particle of it fall and lest anything of the consecrated gift perish” (Homilies on Exodus 13:3).
Cyril of Jerusalem, in a catechetical lecture presented in the mid-300s, said, “Do not, therefore, regard the bread and wine as simply that, for they are, according to the Master’s declaration, the body and blood of Christ. Even though the senses suggest to you the other, let faith make you firm” (Catechetical Discourses: Mystagogic 4:22:9).
It is this level of research prayer and understanding which has led three Church of England Bishops in just the last two years to give up so much power, wealth and status to join the Catholic Church to get closer to Christ.. (thanks to CA)

Hey Hannah - We just take Jesus at his word. He gave authority to Peter and the Apostles and they handed down that authority to the bishops. And when there is a dispute in the church, we know where to turn to in order to settle the issue. See Matthew 18
15“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
We Catholics know where the church is. And nothing the church teaches contradicts scripture if understood properly. Also, remember, Paul himself says to listen to the traditions that he had been taught and that he was handing on to them. See 2 Thessalonians:
15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold to the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word or our epistle.

I like all the posts that show how far from the Biblical teachings on what Salvation is and where it comes from are. The first posting in this thread shows that GustAdlph believes that the Catholic Church is a false Church and by a magical formula his Catholic family have been saved out of the Catholic Church. Vs what the Catholic Church teaches in the Sixth session of the Council of Trent, (which sounds like good Biblical Christianity.)
"In what manner it is to be understood, that the impious is justified by faith, and gratuitously.
And whereas the Apostle saith, that man is justified by faith and freely, those words are to be understood in that sense which the perpetual consent of the Catholic Church hath held and expressed; to wit, that we are therefore said to be justified by faith, because faith is the beginning of human salvation, the foundation, and the root of all Justification; without which it is impossible to please God, and to come unto the fellowship of His sons: but we are therefore said to be justified freely, because that none of those things which precede justification-whether faith or works-merit the grace itself of justification. For, if it be a grace, it is not now by works, otherwise, as the same Apostle says, grace is no more grace."
Then there is the posting that thanks God for Luther, Calvin and others who have brought back the Biblical Church lost, but ignores that Luther not only removed the seven OT books that pre-Lutheran Protestants accepted, but also removed seven NT books until he was forced by his fellow Protestants to return to the NT (James and Revelation among them) and was forced to remove ALONE which he had added to make the Bible now say we are saved by Faith ALONE. The same Luther who told Prince Phillip of Saxony that he could take a second wife without divorcing his first wife, as long as it was not made public. Luther who at first embraced the Jews who he thought would side with him against the Pope of Rome, but later when they did not support him, said should be expelled from their homes and made to wander without any homes or employment. Who at first said that each man should interpret the Scriptures on their own, later when the Peasantry rejected his interpretation and they followed Menno and other Protestants who disagreed with him, called on the Princes of Germany to war on the peasants, and kill them for refusing Luther's interpretation of the Scriptures. Calvin who put to death Protestants who denied his interpretation of the Scriptures, and who he traded letters with Luther condemning each other in the most pornographic of terms, and called each other servants of the Devil when they were being civil. But then we I guess can overlook that history, and condemn the Catholic Church that has condemned heresy but never pronounced any individual to hell, but prayed for God's mercy.

Hello I hope I'm not intruding. I was wondering you can help guide me. What protestant church is the best Church to go to that preaches the true gospel? This is also for my wife too.
I was going to the Assembly of God church for awhile and it was the real gospel message, but our campus pastor decided to go his own separate ways from our Lead Pastor.
These things do happen so I wondering from you, which church do you go to and do recommend one for me? I'm asking you because it seems you posted 7 months ago. I was raised in the Catholic Church. But now I have been in the faith of Jesus Christ for awhile now and I found the people I to go to Church with in the Assembly of God were more focused on the gospel message and more focused on Christ--not Mary or the Saints. That's a good thing because I learned more about the Bible in the Assembly of God than I ever learned in the Catholic Church. When I attended the Catholic Church, I never really read the Bible at all.
Just the other day a Catholic told me that her authority was the POPE and if I didn't obey the Pope than I was also against Christ. So lately I have been persecuted by Catholics simply for saying that my authority is Jesus. They didn't like that and said I was going to hell as a heretic.

Not sure that works. Scripture says that there will be many who will say Lord Lord…
Also when we hear the parable of the soils we hear of those who accept the word with joy…
So just because someone is all about Jesus really doesn’t mean anything.
What does is if they do as Romans 10:9 says.
They confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in their heart that God raised Him from the dead, they will be saved.
As well as John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

@@shawnmason8543 it’s not a deep theological comment that a Christian is somebody who is bananas for Jesus. But what it does say, is that to be a Christian, is to cut through all the outside interference, focus on Christ himself, his heart, who he is, and love who he is. That’s what makes you a Christian more than head knowledge. Maybe you have all your doctrinal ducks lined up in a perfect row, but for most of us we learn new stuff each day about Jesus. And in the end, we don’t get to heaven because of our doctrine, we get there because we love Jesus. Keith Green preached sound doctrine as well, hard against the catholic teachings. He was talking about the true Jesus when he made that comment and wrote those Holy Spirit filled songs. It’ll be great to meet him one day.

@@tpharo34 that may be the issue, it overly simplified. We I believe in the church have made salvation to just be a feeling for Jesus.
The Bible teaches that it is more than that. It’s an understanding of Jesus, who we are, why we need Him, what He did for us and that we cannot be saved without Him.
Like I stated with the earlier scripture there will be many who thought they were saved but will not be.
Someone commented back then that I was being too focused on doctrine, but that’s what God encourages us to do, keep sound doctrine. Because the gospel is doctrine.

Justin Peters I also used to be a Roman Catholic so this is a topic that is near and dear to my heart. I grew up in the church and for a long time I was at first as a child not interested and later I became a very devout Roman Catholic. It wasn't long till I started to become disappointed with the church to becoming increasingly disillusioned with the Roman Catholic church.
I started to become disappointed when I was reading the word of God and seeing just how different the church was to what was described by the Bible. Then more and more questions began to chip away at my foundation for my belief in Roman Catholicism including the saints, Mary, the pope, the eucharist, etc. Eventually I could not bear going to the church anymore and once the child abuse scandals involving the priests and nuns came out it was the last straw and I eventually renounced Roman Catholicism.

Cardinal Pell had horrific charges of sexual rape leveled against him by 2 liars who said the 50-something year old Pell attacked them in the sacristy right after mass, at a time when Pell was always talking to parishoners and was dressed in his heavy priestly robes. One accuser recanted his outrageous lies, but on the other man's (a person of poor character) testimony Pell was convicted by a hating anti-Catholic jury with no evidence. In fact, there is much scripture to dispute many of the catholic dogma...but I never knew this because it was never read in mass, and never taught in catechism. Don't you find it odd that most catholic churches do not have bibles in their pews? That is because a.) they want catholics to rely on the catholic church rather than the inspired word of God, and b.) they know that once catholics start reading the bible and seeking the truth of God, they will start to see the apostasy of the catholic church. I do not say this with anger or malice, but with a true and pleading heart for you, and all catholics, to seek God through His inspired word, and not through the man-made doctrine and traditions of the catholic church. I spent many months researching the history of the catholic church when I started reading scripture ....it is absolutely horrifying when you find out how corrupt the "popes" were, the many deaths of Christians that the catholic church authorized if you opposed them, and how they kept the bible away from people for centuries...this is fact, not opinion. It takes research and humility on the part of the believer to seek the truth and admit they have been deceived by a corrupt institution that has a veil of holiness, but is filled with hidden, rotten fruit that is not pleasing to God. I began reading scripture on my own daily, praying for discernment to our Father in heaven through Jesus Christ our savior, and this brought me closer to God and His truth, which is revealed in the entirety of scripture. I repented with all my heart, and found a zeal of reading the God-inspired words daily to fill me up and be my daily bread. My entire family is catholic, and they are all good people. But they don't know scripture, and don't realize that God does not approve of praying to dead saints, praying to Mary, honoring statues or images of anyone in heaven, or participating in vain and man-made traditions that have an air of holiness, but do nothing for the soul. Scripture reveals all of this! We are told to worship in spirit and in truth, and to direct all of our prayer to our Father in Heaven, through Jesus Christ whom He sent to save us. I pray more catholics will turn to the holy word of God rather than the catechism or man-made doctrines and traditions which God did not authorize.
Please, please research the history of the catholic church and the man-made traditions that are part of catholic dogma. Then read scripture daily to juxtapose the inspired word of God with catholic dogma and traditions. Pray for discernment from the Holy Spirit to guide you. When you read through the New Testament, see how Jesus and the inspired writers describe the Church, the bride of Jesus. It does not describe the catholic church at all. I was a devout catholic my whole life, even going to the traditional latin masses before my conversion because I was seeking God with all my heart, mind, and soul and I wanted to do more to become closer to God. Only by the grace of God did He save me and lead me to read scripture, and it changed my life forever. I am born again in Jesus Christ, a new person, transformed and renewed, now on the narrow path. When we seek Him with all of our heart, mind, and soul, He leads us to Him just like He tells us He will. God bless.

@@savedbychrist504 In your 50+ years, did you not realize that people take their missals to Church to read along with the daily readings? It is a lot easier than flipping through the pages of the bible to find the readings for the day. The readings are divided into 3 sections so the Church goes through the entire bible every 3 years. Plus, every Catholic that I know has a bible at home that they can read any time. I have 2 translations of the bible at my house.
If by 'rituals' you mean the liturgy, it is part of the oral tradition that Paul speaks of in 2 Thess 2:15, and is described in the first century writing, the Didache. Dogma and doctrine are explicit or implicit in the scriptures.
BTW, where in the scriptures does it teach that every article of faith must be found in the bible?
There may have been 10 corrupt Popes out of 266 pontiffs throughout history. The bible was not kept from the people for centuries. Before the invention of the printing press, every bible had to be hand-written. It would have taken monks years to transcribe one copy. This made bible very expensive and valuable; too expensive for the average person to afford. Besides, very few people knew how to read, so having a bible would be useless if someone didn't know how to read. As the bibles were very valuable, the were chained to the podium for the same reason the telephone companies chained their phone books to the phone booth; to keep them from being stolen.
As I stated, I have read the scriptures and familiarized myself with the teachings of the early Christians and I found the Church has always been Catholic and has taught Catholic doctrine since the first century. When I read the scriptures, I see Catholic teaching from Genesis through Revelation.
The Communion of the Saints is an apostolic teaching that is both scriptural and historical. We can find statues, relics, and paintings of the saints in the catacombs of the earliest Christians. The oldest prayer to the Blessed Mother, found on the original papyrus dates back to the third century, so we can deduce that prayers to the saints has always been part of the Christian faith.
Do you make the distinction between the apostolic tradition and the tradition of men? There is a difference and the Catholic Church has never bound the souls of the faithful to mere traditions of men. Of course, as a devout Catholic you would have known all the points that I have made. I believe exactly the way the early Church taught:
      Paraphrased:
“Scripture, then, is an excellent source for the Rule of Faith. It is divine and must be believed. But the Scriptures are not always clear, nor did all of Scripture exist from the beginning. Hence, it is not an absolute Rule of Faith. Scripture is ultimately subject to the criterion of tradition, of the doctrine of the Church; of the Rule of Truth itself…..Tradition must be derived from the Apostles. Any tradition outside the apostolic Tradition must be absolutely rejected….Since Tradition existed before the writings of the New Testament it is an absolute source of revelation. It is the teaching of the living Church, which would have existed even if nothing had been committed to writing.”
      - Ancient Christian Writers, Ireneaus, “Against the Heresies” Book 1. Introduction, Scripture and Tradition, pp. 10-11, paragraphs 30-33, 180 AD

And we know what Jesus thought of the Pharisees.
Scripture in the Bible is inspired by God, so yes I will follow that over anything else.
      Galatians 1:8-9
“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed.”
Jesus Himself tells us not to pray as the heathen do, with their vain repetitions; yet repetition in chaplets, rosaries, and novenas are commonplace in Catholicism. There are so many pagan practices that have been morphed into catholic practices, that many people forget their pagan origin. If you know scripture as well as you say you do, then you should know that God does not ever want us praying to anyone except Him, through His son Jesus Christ.

THE EMMAUS EXPERIENCE : LUKE 24:30-31
" While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, "What is this conversation which you are holding with each other as you walk?" And they stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, named Cle'opas, answered him, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?" And he said to them, "What things?" And they said to him, "Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since this happened. Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body; and they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said; but him they did not see." And he said to them, "O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?" And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He appeared to be going further, but they constrained him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent." So he went in to stay with them. When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized him; and he vanished out of their sight.( Luke 24:15-31)
Boy, there is so much to learn from this great passage of Scripture. But let's concentrate on just a couple of them. The most obvious lesson is to note how the disciples came to notice him in the breaking of the bread, as is explicated for us in verse 35.
Second, notice the first thing that Jesus does with his disciples on His appearance to them is have the Mass. What?, you may say! Look at the text! First Jesus explains the Scriptures to them, just as we do at mass in the Liturgy of the Word. Then He goes on to the Liturgy of the Eucharist by making Himself present to them in the "Breaking of the Bread"

My suggestions about proving that Catholics believe or teach all the accusations that are made by Protestants would be to give written proof of Catholic's books claiming for example that faith in Christ not enough you need to add works to it.
Someone told you that you would be stoned there if you proclaim the Word of God is not a proof that Catholics are killing true Christians or combatting them in fact the fact that Catholics objected to some of the claims that were made in the first video is the proof that they attend your true teachings.
My point is that a better way would be to present all those claims with facts that Catholic stones preachers of the Gospel, encourages homosexuality and rape... Without proofs those accusations are just claims from a Protestant against Catholic.

I heard an interesting story from an older former Roman Catholic a few years back.. His father died when he was a child and his mother was left with 3 young children, a small acreage, a cow and a few chickens. The local priest came to visit shortly after his father's death and offered to do a funeral mass for him. In exchange for this mass, after his mother said that they had no money, the priest wanted her cow in exchange for the mass. Upon hearing this she explained that this would effectively bankrupt her and make it almost impossible to feed her children but the priest was firm. As a result she went to a local Lutheran Pastor who performed a funeral at no cost to her. Needless to say this was a breaking point for her and Roman Catholicism. Sadly she and her son whom I heard the story from became Pentacostal / Charismatic which are not that far off of Roman Catholicism as far as works/ righteousness goes. I pointed this out to him but the allure of false teachers like Joel Osteen were irresistable to him.

The Bible in a Year with Father Mike Schmitz is a wildly popular Bible-reading program. I think this the second year it’s been in place; I wonder if the adherents will question purgatory and other catholic teachings, or if such topics will be glossed over and/or justified through Scripture. I’ve also watched apologetics videos from a catholic perspective on UA-cam, and they sure do use Scripture to justify their teachings. Like it or not, they ALWAYS circle back to Scripture. @@Vickie167 Regarding why Catholics seek Mary's intercession, here are 2 cases.
First. At Jesus' transfiguration, Moses & Elijah were seen talking with Him. In OT, Elijah had been bodily carried to Heaven, Moses had died. When Peter volunteered to build tents, he was obviously seeing them each in bodily form. So there IS life after death.
Second. When Jesus spoke in Parables, He used fictitious figures in His teaching moments like the Prodigal Son, Father & Brother who had no names. However, in the Living Account of the Rich Man(RM) and Beggar Lazarus(BL) - Luke 16:19-31-, the historical Abraham and the BL were named while Jesus did not "care to remember '' the RM's name. In this Parable, Jesus declared that both the RM & BL had died, had been judged and assigned to their places - BL carried by Angels to Abraham's bosom, the RM sent to a place of torment. Despite being dead, there was a request for intercession by the RM to Father Abraham for his brothers. This is the second case of Life after Death, and both cases involve Jesus.
Mary is superior to both Moses & Abraham. Moses committed murder and was disobedient at Meribah in the desert that disqualified him from entering the Promised Land. Abraham lied about his wife Sarah being his sister, and committed adultery with Hagar, his servant. Mary was " full of grace " with no biblical faults ascribed to her. And Mary is the mother of Jesus and thus the most excellent intercessor between us and Jesus, God & Judge ( John 5:22).
While we pray to God we also have to use human helps like doctors, farmers etc. Possessed persons and their families cannot help themselves without the aid of exorcists. Jesus loved & honored His mother Mary and would therefore treat her better than the error-prone Moses & Abraham.
Humanly speaking, we all love and " adore " our Mothers - not worship them. Jesus loved perfectly and also " adored " His Mother.
Jesus also commanded us to love as He loved, so Catholics love and honour Mary who is as living as Jesus, Moses & Abraham.
In her varied apparitions, Mary calls for prayer, penance and love of her Son, Jesus. (Check the Internet for Mary's picture over a Coptic church in Zeitoun, Egypt for 3 years in 1968-71).
On Judgment Day, it will go well for Catholics who loved and honoured His Mother.

[I was going to post some quotes from the catechism but you tube won't let my copy and paste on this thread; but the quotes can be found in the catechism under article II "Grace and Justification" (paragraphs 1987-2005)].
Yes, as justification is merited for us by the Christ's death and resurrection. This is doctrine and must be believed.
Without grace, we remain in the need of regeneration, and as a free gift, we cannot work for this gift of sanctifying grace. It is through this grace that we become adoptive children of God.

If I weren't Catholic, I'd look for the Church that the world despises, for the world despised Jesus, and he would be there. - Fulton Sheen😁😁
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me.". Things seemed to be going pretty well. That is until Jesus said “For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.” This was too much for many of his disciples and “From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.” Jesus turns to the 12 and asks, “Will ye also go away? Vs 61, Jesus did not back down, for He said, "Does this offend you?" it offends protestants. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Jn 20:21, "As the Father has sent Me, I also send you."
Jn 17:18, "Even as thou hast sent Me into the world, so I have sent them into the world."
Jn 17:22-23, "And the glory that thou hast given Me, I have given to
Matt. 28, 18-20: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye, therefore. and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Jesus says to the crowd, "He who believes and is baptized will be saved." But in reference to the same people, Jesus immediately follows with "He who does not believe will be condemned." This demonstrates that one can be baptized and still not be a believer. This disproves the Protestant argument that one must be a believer to be baptized. There is nothing in the Bible about a "believer's baptism."
"Accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior," or "Ask Jesus into your heart" isn't the biblical answer.
It’s important to be saved from hell, damnation, and the stain of original sin, but what are we saved for? We are saved for union with Christ. Our salvation began when we were born again through baptism and God’s own Divine Life was restored in our souls, making us like Adam and Eve were in the Garden before the Original (first) Sin. As we go through life, we are united with Christ through the Sacraments he left as gifts for us, especially through Penance (forgiveness of our sins committed since Baptism) and the Eucharist (partaking of God’s own Life, His own Divine Nature, 2 Peter 1:4) - until that day when we are truly united with Him in heaven.
Scripture teaches that one’s final salvation depends on the state of the soul at death. As Jesus himself tells us, "He who endures to the end will be saved" (Matt. 24:13; cf. 25:31-46). One who dies in the state of friendship with God (the state of grace) will go to heaven. The one who dies in a state of rebellion against God (the state of mortal sin) will go to hell. (For the teaching on venial (non-deadly) and mortal (deadly) sins, see 1 John 5:16-17)
What I must do to be saved:
*I must be baptized with water and the Spirit. Mark 16:16, John 3:3-5, Titus 3:5, I Peter 3:20-21. (Exceptions: [1] If I desire Baptism but die before I can be baptized with water and the Spirit, God accepts my desire to be baptized, and [2] If I am killed (martyred) because of my faith, but I have not had the opportunity to be baptized, God accepts my death as my baptism, called the Baptism of Blood).
    * I must do the will of God the Father. Matthew 7:21
    * I must keep the Commandments of God. Matthew 5:19-20, Matthew 7:21, Matthew 19:17, 1 Timothy 6:14, and others.
    * I must accept the Cross (suffering). Matthew 10:38, Matthew 16:24-25, Mark 8:34, Luke 9:23, Luke 14:27. Phil 1:29, and others.
    * I must be a member of God's true church. Acts 2:46-47.
    * I must confess my sins. James 5:16, I John 1:9, John 20:19-23
    * I must heed the words of St. Peter, the first Pope. Acts 11:13-14, Acts 15:7.
    * I must eat the flesh and drink the blood of Jesus Christ. John 6:51-58, I Corinthians 10:16-17, 11:23-30.
    * I must do unto others as I would have them do unto me and love my neighbor as myself. I must feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, visit the sick and those in prison or give other aid to those in need. Luke 10:33 ff, Mt 25:31-46. "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God" Hebrews 13:16. Good works don’t save us, but we will be judged by them.
*I must strive to be holy. "Strive for peace with everyone and for that holiness without which no one will see the Lord." Hebrews 12:14
*I must endure (persevere) to the end. Matthew 10:22, Matthew 24:13, Mark 13:13.
And ... ? What else must I do?
    Catechism
#432 The name "Jesus" signifies that the very name of God is present in the person of his Son, made man for the universal and definitive redemption from sins. It is the divine name that alone brings salvation, and henceforth all can invoke his name, for Jesus united himself to all men through his Incarnation, so that "there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
