Now that you have done this trip, would you suggest that this can be done as easily in a g-wagon as a landcruiser? Are the parts and labour just as available, did things break down?

Hi Eric,
we say yes, of course. We've never regret did it with our beloved G. We think Mercedes Benz has one of the best service net all over the world with really fast possibilities to deliver parts. IF necessary. Parts like air, fuel or oil filters are everywhere on stock, we needed in Kampala Uganda a new door lock and and fuelpump. Springs or shocks are also available. And the workshops has all the computer equipment for modern cars.

Wahnsinnig schöne Aufnahmen! Ich habe etwas ähnliches mit meinem Mercedes G vor. Ich möchte für 2 Jahre nach und durch Afrika reisen. Momentan restauriere ich meinen 300GD auf meinem UA-camkanal :) Habt ihr im G geschlafen?

Afrika ist super schön, wir haben im G und im Dachzelt geschlafen. Im G immer, wenn es sehr kalt war oder wir nicht so auffallen wollten. :-)

I during her fideling with the idea of staying in Africa for about six months, and I see that a geländewagen is the best vary to go there with in my opinion. But I would love to get in touch with you and do some brainstorming about how to set up this car, if possible?

Can you tell us a little bit about the car; what year is it; how many miles; have you ever had any breakdowns? I'm looking into buying a mid 2000's G Class and converting it into an overland vehicle like yours. Any info you can provide is much appreciated! Cheers

thank you for your message. The car ist from 2008 and has now 250.000 km
Our car is very reliable and we had just once a problem with the turbo charger, but that was caused on a bad service in Istanbul/Turkey.

Fals ich das richtig gelesen habe, ist eure G-Klasse aus dem Jahre 2008 als G320 cdi. Ist die G Klasse ein Sondermodell (Pure/Professional Modell) oder ein stink normaler G320 cdi der von euch umgebaut wurde ? Und das wichtigste von allem, wie seid ihr mit der schlechten Diesel Qualität in Afrika, Asien etc. zurecht gekommen ? Habt ihr den Motor modifiziert oder ist der Motor von Werk aus keinen Qualitätsdiesel gewöhnt ?

Hallo,
ja es ist ein "gewöhnlicher" G320 CDI Bj. 2008, Baureihe W463 - kein PUR oder Professional
Wir haben einen zusätzlichen Wasserfilter und keinen Partikelfilter mehr, der Motor kann den Sprit gut verarbeiten, aber die Abgasreinigung nicht.
Wir passten immer gut auf, wo wir zum tanken hin sind :-) und hatten nie ein Problem mit dem Diesel.
