    I was the lead arrest control instructor of a major metropolitan police academy for 4 years (8 years total as an academy instructor) and the kimura weapon defense from guard was what I taught but I never caught the little knee bump. That's the difference between my blue belt and Rener's multi stripe black! Going to the GST in Cali in September hopefully!!

    I like how Rener and GST is willing to modify and change some of the techniques as needed for cops in the field (even for, as Rener says "larger officers"). Awesome stuff.

    Thank you for devising ways to better equip our police force for real world situations. Trigger discipline and marksmanship, deescalation skills, non-lethal training and BJJ certification should be mandatory for local and state law enforcement agencies nationwide.

    Not only cops, but schools, colleges and universities need jujitsu. And like grandmaster Helio Gracie said "if everyone in the world knew jujitsu we would have peace everywhere".

  • @Rayja3
    @Rayja3 6 років тому +5

    This is exactly why I train Jiu Jitsu! We as law enforcement need to be trained to apprehend the suspect with the least amount of force necessary and unfortunately without the tools and knowledge of BJJ and a good physical fitness regimen officers sometimes, not always escalate the use of force.

    This should be required training for all cops. I think it would reduce many questionable shooting of unarmed individuals. Also staying in shape should be a requirement.

    • @aaronbrill1756
      @aaronbrill1756 6 років тому +3

      Not an unarmed individual, as you put it, if they are trying to disarm a police officer. They are a CRIMINAL trying to be armed with the officer's gun. I agree that staying in shape should be mandated though.

    • @waynepoint
      @waynepoint 6 років тому

      Aaron Brill Not every shooting involves an individual going for a gun or fighting with cops. This type of training will save lives from cops to criminals AND EVERONE in between.

    • @aaronbrill1756
      @aaronbrill1756 6 років тому +1

      True that not every shooting involves someone going for a cop's gun but this technique is for dealing with that very specific situation. Your statement was that this training should be required to reduce shootings of unarmed individuals. I was pointing out that this technique does not involve an unarmed individual, it involves a criminal trying to take a cop's gun.

    • @waynepoint
      @waynepoint 6 років тому

      Aaron Brill I actually said questionable shootings if you want to be technical. Not every case is defintive that the unarmed person went for the gun. But fair enough. This specific training is about a person going for the gun. But the overall training is about making cops more efficient grapples.
      This training should STILL reduce cops needing to shoot. So I still see it as a positive and should be required. How is having more skill and less cops shooting people even a "criminal" a bad thing?

    All cops need to have weekly MMA / Jiu Jitsu training. This makes there more secure, able to protect the civilians better and also very important don't have them freak out and react in panic when something happens. They will be able to control a potential suspect in a calm state of mind so no accidents happen!

      Z31Rider You're scoffing at the alternate name for the submission? Get off your high horse, Prince Albert. It's also called a figure four arm lock. Who cares that Catch also has a name for it? You mad that a key lock is also called an Americana? Get over yourself.

  • @theengineer704

    I agree, "a police officer without training is an accident waiting to happen". Gracie Jiu Jitsu is the most appropriate means to neutralize the person in question without being lethal. I see too many frustrated officers on youtube.com aiming to shoot, kick and hit people who are cuffed, not cuffed or just not complying. There is no need for them to resort to the "I feared for my life" when we clearly see they could have de-escalated the scenario or did not need to pour out abusing power for minor infringements. To serve the community, you have to always know that you are peace officers not war combatants.
    I loved this seminar and believe officers need BJJ / GJJ to serve their communities as well as themselves. They all need this as mandatory training. It would offer camaraderie, build morale and show the community that they wish to build a positive relationship and not a body count. Imagine if the police offered self defense lessons for kids and folks abused by domestic violence free of charge.

    In most of the German states (except North-Rhine-Westphalia where I live) police officers learn Ju-Jutsu. It's a lot like Jiu-Jitsu but it was developed for the police. I do it too.
