I was at this concert tour. They had the "real" cannons along the top of the stage rigging. At the end of this song, each cannon went off right down the line. The cannons were "armed" with these little bits of paper, so the whole stadium was FILLED with floating pieces of cannon fodder. Fucking awesome. (I still have the ticket stub and a piece of the cannon paper in my scrap book).

When Brian Johnson came on the scene it was electric! I was determined not to miss it anytime it came on the radio. I actually finally bought this album in the 9th or 10th grade. My friend had a brand new Caprice Classic and it held 4 people in front and 4 in the back. We had so much fun rockin and cruisin! I still love it and always will! It's not often that a band like AC/DC could find a new front man and keep on rockin. I'm such a huge fan! Peace!

Funny you say it is a rebellious thing, because back then that is exactly what this was. You didn't put songs out like "Hells Bells" and not have serious push back from a very Christian Society back then. We were rebellious for just LISTENING to this type of music in the 80's and those who were around back then, rockin out to this, know.

When they were on tour in the '70's, the tour bus drove past a farm. In the paddock, Malcolm saw an old Howitzer Canon. He remembered this. Then, around the time they were writing this album, Malcolm was reading a book called 'For those about to die, we salute you.' It was a book about the Gladiators. Anyway, when he was working on the riff for For those about to rock, he remembered the Canon, then the book. Then he put it all together. And then, BANG! Also, at the end, there are 21 shots fired. The last volley of 5 go off quick. Also, the canons they use at their gigs, they can have the firing mechanism changed to be combat ready! Yep, they have the real deal!

Your absolute joy in reacting to classics like this is infectious! It reminds me of when I was 12 years old in the early 80s and first heard this album myself. Of course I'd been playing Back in Black constantly for the previous 16 months before this one came out, so I was ready for something new by them. I love the Bon Scott era just as much, but Brian took them to epic level proportions as far as worldwide popularity. He also made his own way with the band with his own style. He deserves a lot of credit and respect.

just some story. Highway to Hell, Back in Black, and For Those About to Rock were all produced by Mutt Lange one of the most respected studio producers in the business. For Flick of the Switch (also awesome), they went to a different producer to get away from the perfect studio sound and get more raw. Mutt went on to put out the huge Def Leppard albums after his work with AC/DC

Bought this album when it first came out. At the time it was the first AC/DC album that had songs that I didn't like. But the songs I like I like. Let's get it up, C.O.D and Spellbound are stand outs to me.

Read for me because I grew up on AC/DC with Brian Johnson, they didn’t play anything before 1980 here in the United States, so we did not hear a lot of Bon Scott.
Now I’m taking a deep dive in, and I feel like I have a whole Nother band, but my same band my same favorite band to listen to !
