In order to get the effect he wanted for Bambi, Walt Disney had to come up with something revolutionary, so he conceived of a way to make an animated image appear to be 3-D by painting different parts of the scene on glass plates that were placed alongside each other. That way, when the camera zoomed in or panned in a particular scene, it would look like the camera was actually moving through the forest. .
Max Fleischer apparently used the same technique for some of the scenery in some of these cartoons. When you look at Betty Boop, you see a relatively simple figure, but the anthropomorphic animals and other things that come to life weren't as simple. Backgrounds are sometimes really detailed. I gotta say, that first appearance in 1930 was shocking to see, considering how we picture her. I only wish was that these were in colour. And Betty was played (as was Olive Oyl) by Mae Questel from my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. She was also 'Aunt Bluebell" in the Scott Towels commercials in the early 70s.

Betty Boop did become Kid Friendly after the Hayes Code of 1934. Betty Boop was made for Adults , Mostly Adult Men.
