- Max Zuckerman on J.S. Bach's Partita No. 1:
"The music of J. S. Bach translates well to nearly every instrument. From the keyboard to orchestral instruments, to voice and even percussion, Bach's compositions seem to adapt themselves well to any instrument. In the halls of any given conservatory, one can hear a double bass player practicing a cello suite, a jazz saxophonist practicing a flute sonata or even a marimba player working out the first chords to the Chaconne.
That being said, I have always particularly loved the sound of Bach on the guitar. Like piano, guitar shares a similar style of articulation that suits his music well. Many guitarists over the years have championed Bach's music. However, due to the technical constraints of the instrument, most guitarist have limited their Bach transcriptions to pieces written for cello, violin and lute and have seldom attempted transcribing his works for keyboard. There were simply too many notes! I am the first to acknowledge that any guitarist could easily spend a lifetime exploring our existing Bach repertoire alone, but for many years I couldn't help but wonder if there were more possibilities. Luckily performers such as Tilman Hoppstock, David Tanenbaum, and others showed us that the world of Bach's keyboard music is not entirely off limits to us guitarist. It was with much joy and frustration that I went about making this transcription and I hope that you enjoy it!"
A wonderful recital of this work by Bach. An excellent example of a perfection by mind standards anyway. You won't find a better example of interpretation and musicianship
Pristine an interpretation and performance as one could ever imagine. Awesome.

😮😮 lo lo
Amazing! There are so many very talented guitarists today!
100% agree. This is magical
If JSB had played the six string guitar this is what he would play and how he'd play it...briilliant
This is insane! What an amazing achievement. So beautiful. The separation of the parts and the dexterity of it it also mind boggling.
Beside the good quality of the music, one should appreciate the relaxed body posture of the performer
Cause otherwise he’ll knock a microphone!
A very important point Curatica, one sees in his playing a completely efficient use of movement and energy without which his great playing would not be possible, absolutely wonderful playing.
Love the way he brings out the individual voices. Also, a very clear recording.
A marvellous piece, magnificently played, beautifully recorded, masterfully filmed, tastefully mixed, cleverly edited. It's so inspiring!
The playing has an effortless quality about it.
Definitely, Mr Zuckerman is a giant artist and one of the best in the world ,
I saw Max play this live at a Groupmuse in Bushwick (Brooklyn, NYC) around 2015 on a Sunday at the apartment (3rd floor of a walk up if I remember correctly) of an Orthodox Jewish family that invited members of their congregation to attend and thankfully also opened it up to randos like me via Groupmuse. I spoke to a member of the congregation and I told him - if this guy (Max) delivers on what he promises for his program, you're going to be impressed because it is going to be lights out FANTASTICALLY BEAUTIFUL! Sure enough Max delivers the goods and at the intermission, the guy flags me and says he's floored about the music and that I wasn't kidding!
I am so grateful to live in an era where we have access to music so easily. This was very musical, it truly is a pleasure to listen to you, well done!
Want to come over for dinner? I'll play some Bach for you :)

Stupendous playing - one of my favorite pieces - wonderfully transcribed & magical
I’ve heard other people try it but he pulls it off. Sounds great on the guitar.
Thank you vor thus extraordinary playing!I'm deeply impressed!
I have been hearing (then with the wake of UA-cam) watching videos of the best guitar players over the las 45 years...Mr. Zuckerman as I am seeing here is one of the best if not the very best! Of course there are many virtuosos nowadays but ...this interpretation of Bach along with the footage and sound engineering is SUPERB. Bravo Max!!
Great playing of these beautiful, spiritual pieces. Thanks Max for sharing these with us.
Max, this is beautiful. I hope we can hear you play in person soon.

Really wonderful playing.
A great performance of a great arrangement of one of the greatest pieces ever written by the greatest composer of them all.
Beautiful tone of JS Bach and his playing guitarist performance
Magnificent Max! Magnificent.
I've been marveling at this performance for years. It is so amazing! Thank you!! Awesome!!!
Well played sir! It must be fiercely difficult to maintain rhythm and articulate Bach's interwoven melodies with feeling. Love it!
A masterpiece of transcription. Also, very, very nice microphone setup. It contributes as much to the performance as any other ingredient.
Love,Love,Love!
Thank you so much Mr. Zuckermann.
Bravo!
Execução impecável, daqueles momentos em que a respiração fica suspensa em agradecimento ao mestre Bach.
Max, Deus o abençoe eternamente.

Relistening to this, among many other points of amazement I'm picking up on all of those incredible ornaments in the Corrente, such clarity and rhythm even at that tempo! Wow what a performance!
Incrível !!!
Bela pegada, suave e relaxante. Bach, o gênio de sempre.
Gorgeous !!!
It is true that J.S. Bach's composition can be transcribed for any instruments just like original. That will make guitar so great as much .!..!...!.......
Bravo!!!
Esto es extraordinario, una interpretación genial. El arreglo es fantástico. Gracias.
long fingers verses Segovias short fingers..yet brilliance shine forth...
Sounds great, man! Excellent tone and phrasing!
Fantástico, maravilhoso, perfeito!!! Técnica e sensibilidade. Obrigado pelo vídeo e parabéns pela execução.
Excelente!
Bravo, bravo, bravo.
Only 47k view in 5 years is depressing. That's so fucking good. This music spreads light, warming my heart, immersing me in joy. I wanna play this piece soon. Well played bro, amazing commitment. Cheers
Хороший звук! Браво!
And thank you for the very tansparant recording tecnique 👍
Perfect
Brilliant. A difficult score (also for keyboard) and yet played flawlessly, (almost) without those typical 'screeching' guitar noises that you hear lesser players make when changing the position of their left hand.
Brilliant!
Wowowowowowow!!
😊😊😊! Merci Mr !
One of the few times that I could't skip this video and watch something else... It is so epic and wonderful that made my day. Your performance touches the perfection!
Respect!
Wonderful...
Masterly.
It's very very beautiful. If notes had to be lost for the conversion to guitar, you won't notice it. The trills are so precise too.
impressive! thank you
Very good!
the mind of Bach..!
Wow!!!!!! Amazing job. A great transcription and executed masterfully. I rarely comment but I had to here. Favourited.
Wonderful interpretation and gorgeous sound. Both relaxed and passionate at the same time. Could you tell me what kind of guitar you are playing. It is perfect for this music!! Thanks
I believe this is a Robert Ruck guitar.
也许是我见到最棒的BWV825的吉他演奏了!
大卫罗素也不错
This is too good. I wonder if i can find it in spotify
Dear Max, thank you for a wonderful transcription and performance. After five years many don''t seems to mind the missing BWV number of this work which is of course BWV 825, just in case someone wants to know.
good work
