Dinwiddie, not even a question. He is a proven good fit with Luka, essentially carried us through a number of games, multiple game winners, is ~6'6", and has playoff experience. Look at how we lost and what we currently need.

We don’t have a “need” that we have to fulfill, you need someone who MIGHT have some use and raise your ceiling and that’s Spencer because hey just more talented, also having a reliable 3rd ball handler is a bigger “need” than another defender
My votes for Dennis Smith Jr, even though he asked to be traded. He's built himself into a solid defensive guard now and I think he can help the current Mavs squad moreso than Dinwiddie.
As far as DSJ requesting a trade years ago, he was young and hadn't been humbled. Dinwiddie scorned us a few months ago as a grown ass man, so DSJ is my pick 😂
I would say Spencer, need another guard that will be effective offensively and create so the usage rate of Luka & Kyrie isn't so high in the regular season. Spencer can easily get the Mavs 8-10 PPG with some assists. I like Hardy but he's not a PG, he's a scorer first, let him score. DSJ plays solid defense, but after that he can't shoot the 3 or space the floor to inconsistent offensively, & defensively has no kind of wingspan, with DJJ he could at least give you about 33-35% from 3. Spencer was solid on the Mavs. Fans need to remember he played perfectly behind 2 guards in Brunson & Luka. Im looking at guards out their and not much, so to me Spencer is the most comfortable and good option to me, to put the Mavs over. Then if they have another spot go after the other Morris, and roster is complete, good balance.
The correct call got to be Devonte Graham, who is more capable to make play or bucket than the other 2. Since guys has been praising Grimes as solid defensive addition, then a third guy that able to generate action is what we need
We need someone faster that can leave players behind with his speed. I remember Barea even tho he was small, he was fast kind like TJ McConnell fron IND and I saw him disrupting BOS defense squeezing through defenders and creating for others while putting up points
DJJ was a liability in the finals, couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and his defense was less effective against bigger guards/forwards. Klay is a massive upgrade.
DSJr showed me massive growth last time I saw him vs DAL. He went from (pardon me) dumb AF/ like Westbrook, to a true PG- He's smart and distributes on offense now. But Mavs lost a ton of above the rim athleticism from Green/Jones. I mean, prob the 2 best high-flying dunkers at SG in the NBA- Huge! DSJr is that, then some. Need some of that back. Note, if Kyrie goes down, we'll need that extra PG and since Exum plays Point, id like the defensive counterpart option in the backcourt. Also, Kidd plays a kinda 3rd bench unit look too. He'll go with Hardy 3rd unit, with a 2 Biggs/ 3 Guards look. Something to consider.
If we really want to try and test Luka at the start of the year you may need a vet like Spencer to run the game more. I prefer DSJ but just looking at it objectively.
Spence is tall enough to play wing as well as guard. Its obviously him over DSJ that isn't even a debate but getting another guard isn't the main need for the Mavs right now. Got plenty from Kyrie, Klay, Exum, Hardy, etc. The issue is Forward depth as Maxi isn't good enough as a 3pt shooter and isn't reliable on defense without Gaff or Lively out there. Not to mention health concerns. We need depth behind PJ Washington.
are you unfamiliar of the concept of roleplayers standing up for the stars because they cant afford to get T'd up? but yeah thats a problem thats long gone for luka so idk why its still being brought up
Luka can handle himself.. he is just smart about it. Balkan guys are hardcore. . But Naji is also a baaadd man too. Dont need Marcus really. But i like his shooting.
Question - Don't the Mavs have 1 non-guaranteed spot? If the answer is that it would be great to have both DSJ and Spencer Dinwiddie and we value having that flexibility, could the Mavs waive the non-guaranteed player?
1st team: Luka, Ky, Klay, PJ, Lively/Gaff 2nd team: Hardy, Grimes, Naji, Maxi, Lively/Gaff Stash: Exum, Omax Team is set. I don't know why Dallas is enamored at trying to get guards every freaking free agency. Dallas hasn't needed to get a guard, much less a high profile one, ever since 2018. Since Luka was drafted, the team has always needed athletic defenders and/or shooters rather than guards. If for some quirky reason they REALLY need to get a guard this season, might as well trade Hardy coz every guard signing has been holding and will continue to hold him back. Maybe trade him and then get Tyus Jones or something. Otherwise, if the Mavs use the roster spot for vet presence, how about Taj, Lowry, Patty Mills, PatBev, Thad Young, or even Tristan Thompson. Or they could pick up KJ Martin as some sort of a project. Given Maxi's injury history, he can probably even compete for minutes as a backup PF.
I could go with either Dennis Smith Jr or Spencer Dinwiddie - so… the answer is something I don’t know the answer to, which is “which one fits best in terms of personality and compatibility with teammates”?
The question is “what players will play in all four quarters and have significant minutes in the fourth”? I only see eight guys now. Lively/Gafford PJ Klay Luka Kyrie And Marshal and Grimes……not that Grimes will be great but that he’s proven with his playoff experience to be more ready than Exum, Hardy AND MAXI. But it’s a long season and who knows if any of these guys will stay healthy. All have shown a propensity to get nicked up. As always it’s who wants it the most And who we inevitably trade for at the deadline. No one can predict the future.
If i was dsj I be excited but wouldn't come back as kyrie irving basically is doing what dsj role would be, if they kept him and let him develop a bit more and figure it out.
DSJ > Dinwiddie IMO. More of a dawg, I think he would be motivated to produce at a high level within his role the 2nd time around. His athleticism is needed not to mention the fanbase would welcome him w/open arms. Aside from his contributions on the floor, it would be a good PR move with that roster spot.
Kyrie is not a slouch defensively. Mavs got to take Spencer to spell Luka and Kyrie. Luka was fine defensively prior to injuries. Pick the player that makes the regular season easier for the stars. You sign Dinwiddie and he’s the first guard off the bench for Kyrie. DSJ will not save this team come playoff time. I think they’ll play Omax because they need Maxi replacement. Maybe not as a big man but PJ backup.
People tht say he’s washed now are full of it. He was “washed” in Washington and then went crazy with us. The stats and highlights speak for themselves.
I'm leaning towards Dinwiddie. We know what he brings and would be more of an offensive threat. Also, waive AJ. We don't need him on the roster. Open up another roster spot
ppl forgot that we need pg who can playmake when luka sits on the bench. dinwiddie is a big upgrade for exum, you can't play ky and dsj at the same time. I don't get why people bring up dsj and ky prolly don't like him.
If Luka or Kyrie go out, Klay moves to SG, Naji moves to the starting lineup and you have better defense! You still have Hardy, Exum, Grimes on the bench with 2 of our big 3. Who are you going to get worth a shit that is willing to sit and not play for 20-30 games at a time?
For me it’s Dinwiddie, Mavs are in Win now mode, I don’t care for the young guys like Prosper or Hardy. Luka and Kyrie need experience next to them. DSJ can’t shoot for shit and is short if he had to play with Luka and Kyrie in a guard lineup in a spot minutes. Dinwiddie shot the ball well in his last 15 games for the Lakers and is a big guard. Which Kidd likes. If the Mavs don’t get Dinwiddie, just resigne Bullock for another 3 and D wing. And if they do want another guard, then trade for Brogdon, who played well under Kidd and off the bench for the Celtics or give John Wall a chance.

DSJ brings some verticality to the team. That was fun with DJJ. If the others on the court provide some spacing, he'll be lob-available.
Now thats its offical. Issac Harris On the Pod!!!
As far as DSJ requesting a trade years ago, he was young and hadn't been humbled. Dinwiddie scorned us a few months ago as a grown ass man, so DSJ is my pick 😂
Pro(s)per OMax and Hardy minutes please!
DSJ watch was a special time for the podcast😭
WHEN IS THE CHOICE GOING TO BE MADE! It feels like forever and nothing is happening while every other team is STILL making moves & improving.
All the mess that went on in Dallas with DSJ was due to Rick Carlisle not liking him. DSJ loved Dallas and said many times he’d love to come back.
Definitely dinwiddie. It’s always not a bad thing to make your team more flexible. With him on the team, the Mavs can even rest Luka or Kyrie more.
We still need one more big man.
We need someone faster that can leave players behind with his speed. I remember Barea even tho he was small, he was fast kind like TJ McConnell fron IND and I saw him disrupting BOS defense squeezing through defenders and creating for others while putting up points
I think the msvs need another big forward, because maxi cant stay Healthy...
DJJ was a liability in the finals, couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and his defense was less effective against bigger guards/forwards. Klay is a massive upgrade.
Paul reed is apparently good too?
Focusing on OMax's development early on this season may pay a ton of dividends
If Thompson can still get 15-20 points per game, it would be a success.
Just sign the twins Markief n Marcus. No more bullying Luka lol
Luka is a grown man with a child. If he’s being bullied he’s less than a man.
If they would even see any PT. 😂
Ummmm did you not see Naji choke Jimmy Butler?
are you unfamiliar of the concept of roleplayers standing up for the stars because they cant afford to get T'd up? but yeah thats a problem thats long gone for luka so idk why its still being brought up
Luka can handle himself.. he is just smart about it. Balkan guys are hardcore. . But Naji is also a baaadd man too. Dont need Marcus really. But i like his shooting.
Anything
Question - Don't the Mavs have 1 non-guaranteed spot? If the answer is that it would be great to have both DSJ and Spencer Dinwiddie and we value having that flexibility, could the Mavs waive the non-guaranteed player?
It was a different team and coach when DSJ asked for a trade. Spencer was with this team and coaches.
Dinwiddie is the big combo guard the mavs need. He shot 3s great in dallas and would be another guy that can handle and guard 1-3
1st team: Luka, Ky, Klay, PJ, Lively/Gaff
2nd team: Hardy, Grimes, Naji, Maxi, Lively/Gaff
Stash: Exum, Omax
Team is set.
I guess what I’d be looking for is “chemistry”
The question is “what players will play in all four quarters and have significant minutes in the fourth”?
I only see eight guys now.
Lively/Gafford
PJ
Klay
Luka
Kyrie
And Marshal and Grimes……not that Grimes will be great but that he’s proven with his playoff experience to be more ready than Exum, Hardy AND MAXI.
But it’s a long season and who knows if any of these guys will stay healthy. All have shown a propensity to get nicked up. As always it’s who wants it the most
And who we inevitably trade for at the deadline. No one can predict the future.
None of these players, please, and thank you!
Marcus Morris Sr or JT Thor
Neither I would rather have a big to back up, Derek, lively, and Daniel Gafford
Who would be more motivated? Probably DSJ. Better player now is probably Dinwiddie provided his health matches up with 2022
Gotta disagree Reggie ; kidd gave maxi and THJ minutes and they DID NOT earn it
If i was dsj I be excited but wouldn't come back as kyrie irving basically is doing what dsj role would be, if they kept him and let him develop a bit more and figure it out.
DSJ gives you upside and defense.
Dinwiddie just chose Lakers over Mavs a couple months ago because he doesn't want this 3rd PG role.
Windiddie! All the way!!!
Im on the rare train it seems for bringing back Dinwiddie over DSJ. Hes just the better talent at the end of the day
LET
IT
RIIIIIIIIIIIDE!!
Mavs need DSJ's point of attack defense but they need Dinwiddie's size - to play together with Kyrie - and his playmaking.
Dinwiddie more experience, better playmaking, shooting and his defense isn’t that too far off
Who needs to worry about this -- I trust Nico.
Spencer had his chance he went to LA remember... Let's go MAVS 🎉🎉🎉
DSJ left cause of Carlisle, KP didn't work out cause of Carlisle... I'm not completely right, but am I wrong?
Shammet tho?
Are people forgetting Dinwiddie's clutch 3's, game-winners and 30pt games deep in the Playoffs?
People tht say he’s washed now are full of it. He was “washed” in Washington and then went crazy with us. The stats and highlights speak for themselves.
bring dennis for the vibes
A big
Neither of them. I want Pat Bev!!!!!
I'm leaning towards Dinwiddie. We know what he brings and would be more of an offensive threat. Also, waive AJ. We don't need him on the roster. Open up another roster spot
Media member and channel manager *
Kyrie and luka hardy are PG we. Need forward shooter defender
They can't play 48'/game. Mavs need a trustwothy PG. I like Dante but he is not a pure PG...
Hardy cannot play PG!
ppl forgot that we need pg who can playmake when luka sits on the bench. dinwiddie is a big upgrade for exum, you can't play ky and dsj at the same time. I don't get why people bring up dsj and ky prolly don't like him.
I think the pros outweigh the cons with dinwiddie, but only if he wants to be here
DSJ.....he's a dawg on defense
Odd man out is DPowell.
There’s no need for him, unless he somehow develops a respectable jump shot.
Spencer hands down because he’s more talented and proven.
If bottom 5 guys don't play, then fill them with min salary players.
Theo pinson for the final spot please and thank you
i like dinwiddie his play making and bigger size and offense skill set can really help the mavs esp if luka or kyrie go out
If Luka or Kyrie go out, Klay moves to SG, Naji moves to the starting lineup and you have better defense! You still have Hardy, Exum, Grimes on the bench with 2 of our big 3. Who are you going to get worth a shit that is willing to sit and not play for 20-30 games at a time?
@@SDesWriter Hardy can't play the point, and his ball handling skills are so so, he's better as a scorer on the fly.
It’s funny to me you don’t think Dsj can create when he averaged more points than Dan witty Dsj would be a exum upgrade/replacement
DSJ all the way!
I’d take DSJ over Dinwiddie. I think DSJ can handle the ball good enough
🎉🎉🎉
i will die on the lonnie walker hill, i think hes the best of both worlds between dinwiddie and DSJ
I agree, I didn’t know he was an option
@@p2pirate534 he’s an unrestricted free agent that nobody is talking about and idk why he’s way better than both options Mavs fans are obsessed with rn
DSJ did get treated like dogwater by Rick Carlisle, he was young, talented and developing, don't blame him one bit for asking to get traded. Carlisle tried to pit DSJ against Luka, which was completely unfair because we all knew what Luka was even as a rookie. Pretty sure he's grown and matured since then. He deserves a second chance.
Dinwiddie can stay in LA.
It’s who we can get, who we can afford who wants to be here. It’s not like we have a bunch of choices really. Not good ones anyway. God let’s get this over with. Only 100 more days till opening night. It all hinges on OMax being an all-star lol……
We need defense.... DSJ pls
What ya got for us Reggie?
Dinwiddle, could help win alot of games when you rest a 32 yr old Kyrie or Luka at times
