    My five biggest things I want to see lively improve on
    1. Strength- will help with rebounding, defending and finishing through contact, and injuries even though some of his injuries where just really bad luck injuries.
    2. Blocks/interior defence - pretty much just average more blocks or change slot more shots without fouling.
    3. The 3point shot- him being able to spread the floor at atleast even 30% this year would be absolutely massive and that’s me thinking positive.
    4. Switch ability defence- him being able to guard the perimeter better will improve the mavs defence and his chance at all defensive tea.
    5. I’m not even to sure about this last spot, those pretty much cover everything, maybe some post game but I don’t see that helping to much, maybe he posts someone smaller, a person comes to doubles and lively kicks to the open shooter
    That’s what I’d love to see lively improve on

    D Live's issue in the finals was not his 3pt shot. He needs to develop a post-game. Tatum guarded him allowing him to switch on LuKai pick and rolls negating any advantage of a screen. If D Live is guarded by a wing he needs to be able to abuse that mismatch into submission like Porzingis did.

  • @Punchybarnard

    Definitely a post up game or finishing out of the short roll I think is even more important than a 3ball. Also finishing after an offensive rebound instead of looking to pass immediately

      Agreed. A reliable post move, a reliable 5-10 ft push shot and shooting 70+% from the line constantly. If he is able to do at least 2 of those 3 things, I would be more then happy with his progression.

    He needs to go spend the summer with Jokic. No one has better post moves than Joker and he does it with almost no athletic ability. You can see how many moves Jokic stole from McHale (maybe the best ever) and that's EXACTLY what Lively needs. A mini-hook, an up-and-under, and a good pump fake with the ability to nail the 2-5' jumper. That will make him devastating for the Mavs, and we already know he has touch if he wants to go to the 3pt line and take a few corner shots.

      1st let him get some real post moves and become a reliable FT shooter. Dont force things he just isnt ready for. He is a Center, so built him up from the inside out over the next years. I dont need him shooting 3's. How about he would be able to get some post moves and a push shot 1st? You know, get an entry pass and get to work. How about he learns that 1st?

    • @JohnnySmith-x2b

      Before the assumption he has to develop his 3 shot, how about first development of 4 to 5 inside the paint with great footwork. Next work on free throws. Then move out to pick & pop shot 10 to 15 foot range and short corner shot. Do what we need you to do. We don't need him to shoot 3 ball in year two. Work on it? Of course. But there are other things he needs to improve on before saying hit multiple 3 per game. Great great comments from Danna on Liv. Enjoyed.

    I believe people are forgetting that Gafford has entered his prime years of basketball. I like DLive but Gafford is about to get a full training camp with Luka and Kyrie. Both Daniel and Derrick are extremely important talented pieces for the Mavericks, but Gafford is a grown ass man with a grown ass man body right now. If DLive shoots the 3 at 36% early, then that will set him apart.

      Lively was better than Gafford even last season, as a rookie. Gafford is a premium backup, and could start on a lot of teams, but Lively is just better and his potential is just through the roof. Lively is more switchable, significantly bigger and longer, better passer and has shooting potential. The only thing that Gafford has on him is finishing, but that is not enough.

      I think there is not alot difference but Liv upside is more. I think a full training camp with both being healthy then one will sho to Kidd as starter, but I think both getting +20 mins especially early season helps team and keeps both healthy. Back those 2 up with the 7'6 kid we are solid at tge 5 spot for at least the next 5 years.

      If Gafford didn’t have his 7 ft wingspan and freak athleticism, he’d be another Powell. Yes he’s a good center. But he’ll thrive coming off the bench to relieve lively. Shit, this WHOLE offense would benefit greatly with him coming off the bench.

    Liv is a rookie who had a good not great first season. The Good he finishes the lobs from Luka, sets good screens, good passer, ok but not great rebounder, and rim protector. Now the not so good, not good hands, not good footwork on either end of court thus uses his hands way too much resulting in silly fouls and getting into foul trouble. Also outside lobs or putbacks weak offensive skills at this time. But remember he was not a star at Duke and considering where he was drafted the tragic loss of his Mom, he will get better. His upside and potential is possible All Star level. Needs to get stronger, work on open shots & free throws. But we should great improvement next year. IMO by year 4 or 5 he is possibly an All Star. Keep working big fellow we need you. Also great we have Gafford to give us a solid center as well.

    How about some realistic expectations? A jump hook, shoot 8 to 10 footers facing the basket (and using the glass), one or two dribbles going to basket, fewer “silly” fouls, and increase free throw % by 5. A little better D would be nice, but he is already maybe the best Mavs have ever had. 3s are easy to practice and he can take 50 a day in practice and see how good he can get. He may be the same or a little worse, so keep expectations in check.

    One of my greatest fears is we are good but not great with Klay in the starting 5 and we start games AND END GAMES better with Naji in the starting lineup. That might be a hard pill for Thompson to swallow. Both were identical in three point efficiency (38.7) and I would have to assume Marshall would be a better fit and more impactful player on the defensive end. I’d prefer him on the court with Lively, PJ, Kyrie and Luka at the end of games and probably in the first six minutes of each half as well. I don’t think sixth man of the year potential holds much sway for a future hall of famer, even though Ginoboli made the Spurs unstoppable by deferring to Bowen and Kawhi in San Antonio.

    • @BossMkII
      @BossMkII 2 місяці тому +5

      Just on the efficiency end. Klay is the better 3 point shooter which includes volume. If Naji took as many as Klay his efficiency and percentage would most likely go down as seen with other low volume high efficiency shooters.

    • @glennvastine5713
      @glennvastine5713 2 місяці тому

      @@BossMkII agreed but who do you want taking big shots late in games? Luka, Kyrie or Klay?
      Because after the shot goes up we have to run back on defense. I’m not certain you don’t sit Kyrie late in games when we are ahead in favor of Grimes. Especially when we are well ahead.
      Running around screens defending against threes isn’t what those two guys do best. A defensive alignment of Lively-PJ-Luka-Naji and Grimes in the last 2-3 minutes WHEN WE ARE UP might be the best lineup we have. Something similar to what we had late in games last year with Jones and Green when we needed stops more than baskets. Besides Thompson might not freak out as much when he’s on the bench late if Kyrie is there with him. If we have a few dry possessions you reinsert Irving and Klay to go get a couple of
      Scores. I’ve watched about 20 warriors games from last year and I know this is a possible outcome at some point in the season. Regardless I’m excited to see how it all unfolds.
      Just win baby 😎……

    • @Thawk126
      @Thawk126 2 місяці тому +4

      I wouldnt compare them from 3. Klay shoots ridiculous volume off of action, with defenses focused on guarding him for the 3. Very few ever in the nba match his 3 pt capabilities. Taking a set 3pt shot off a pass with space doesn’t compare to what Klay does

    • @smag7477
      @smag7477 2 місяці тому +1

      This is why 3p% is misleading. 35% on 10 attempts is better than 40% on 3 attempts. Let’s take Exum for example; he has 49% on 2 attempts and Luka has 38% on 10 attempts. Now would you say Exum is a better 3p shooter than Luka? No.

    • @glennvastine5713
      @glennvastine5713 2 місяці тому

      @@smag7477 it’s not “misleading”. If Klay takes fewer threes at a much higher percentage that’s a good thing. If he’s not taking the shot on a possession Luka or Kyrie is. It’s about efficiency and taking the shots YOU CAN MAKE. What is underrated is guys who can get to the free throw line and don’t commit turnovers and offensive fouls. That’s what makes SGA so valuable.
      Led the league in free throw makes while only committing 2.2 turnovers a game (Luka was 4.0). Usually it makes more sense to lower your head and get to the basket, as long as you don’t turn the ball over a lot when you do it.
      You live by the three and in Klay’s case you sometimes die by it. He definitely did in Sacramento. As dumb as it sounds sometimes it makes more sense to take the 24 second violation than to give up the easy basket on the other end because you are late getting back in transition. Those ten missed shots just killed golden state in that game. He has a habit of doing that. So did Tim and so does Hardy occasionally. KP is another one. The reckless jump shot is a killer in the modern nba. Put your mouthpiece in and get physical in the paint.
      IF YOU CAN.

If lively can develop a scoring threat out of that short roll(draymond or sabonis), the league is in trouble. They didn't ask him to shoot but he can knock down 3pters
