Welcome back! Black exterior w/red interior gets my vote!
I like it when you recreate what the child tried to make it look like.
Am commenting as I watch and must say I am enjoying the new format
Great so see you back on deck. I like the original gold. It fits with the era of the car
Nice series. Carry on. The community has missed you. And about thr drillbits and the vice you are completely right. Yesterday i drilled my thumb thru the nail with a 4.2 mm drillbit because i was not using a vise. It is a painfull lesson of why you should use handy tools. 😂
Love your videos Rob. I prefer the longer videos myself.
Just so good to see you back again Rob, stay safe
Great to have you back again Rob!!!
Thanks for showing us what it takes to disassemble one of those cars, Rob. A lot of delicate, be careful work! You are a master!! Thanks again.
Anxious to see Part 2.
Good to have you back Rob
I think either a red body with a black canopy would look great or a light blue with a white canopy would look great! Love the channel, I watch them on my way to & from work
Looking forward to seeing part 2 cheers 🥂🍻🍺🥂🍻🍺 KC Cradle Mountain Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🤝😎🙂👍
Great to see you back Rob 😀 hope all is well . Looking forward to this restoration
I’d love to see a custom build. Nice work you do!
Welcome back Rob, glad that you and your family had a nice break.
Welcome back! You have been missed!
Good to see your work again. The gold exterior is similar to the first car I drove, a 1970 Buick Skylark Custom with a white vinyl roof & white interior.
Great video and I love the longer format. I think a nice metallic gold like it originally was would look nice.
Wow, nice to see you back 👍
Hi Rob nice to see with you with a video to watch. I used to have one of these but the smaller scale.in the same colour this would be brilliant.
Nice to see you again rod
:) I found my way back, again. The kids, and some imperatives, have kept me lost to many of the videos.
Glad to be back, beautiful restoration. :)
Hey Rob, I like the new video format. It is awesome to see just how much work you put into each vehicle you restore.
Welcome back Rob! Missed your videos mate!
The Cougar is so overlooked. My dad has one in sage gold with a white vinyl top.
New subscriber, I just finished watching your chevy taxi restoration. You did a great job on that one!!
Ah,finaly. Haha. So god to have another video from you again. Black vinyl roof, and dark "spectraflame" Purple paint over polished body.
I love Mercury Cougars, I have one of these castings in my resto box, interesting to see how much is involved with the strip down - I counted 8 rivets altogether in its construction - these were properly made toys! My vote would be a deep metallic green for this one
Good to see you back rob.love the channel and videos
Hello again very nice to see you always very nice work as always as well will be looking for your next video on it brother Lee
A spiral of swarf - the wiggly bit that comes out of the post.
Nice job on that video: good to see a proper slo-mo of the post drilling, etc.
Colour? A deep metallic purple!
Welcome back it's Nice to see a new vídeo love that cougar
I just saw a model on fb painted Quasar Blue, the prettiest color I've ever seen. I drove a 68 Cougar for 10+ years so they are my favorite car of all time. I have quit a lot in my collection 1/64 to 1/24 plus customs I made from Matchbox and Hotwheels. You can check out the videos I recently made, the last one is an all Cougar Show. I'm gonna love this series so much my Friend.
I'm jealous, I don't think I have seen a real one in the metal 🤔😞
Nice to have you back Rob.. That's one of my favourite castings!
Great to see a new video...
Excellent. Thank you!
Glad to see a new video my friend, and what a cool project to come back with! Definitely looking forward to the rest of the process on this one.
Rob this is turning out fantastic so far! I know I’m glad to see you back and so are others!!! Welcome back and I hope u and the fam had a fantastic break!!! Missed ya man!
So cool classic car😍😍😍
Nice to see more detailed video, great have you back 👍
Black would be nice or very dark metallic-green, blue or purple.
Welcome back i restored one of these a few years back i screwed the door bar on with audio cassette screws o use a 1point 1 drill a tiny bit of oil and those screws fot a treat you really need to keep that car original you can get tose tyres from steve flowers also i have this model mint and boxed i only paid a fiver for it
Hurrah, Rob is back! I like what you're doing here. It's a great idea to show us how you do a complete restoration. I enjoyed watching all of Part 1. I don't mind what colour, but NOT purple!
New drill time, by the look of it, Rob. Maybe Satan, sorry, Santa will bring you one in his sack.
It's good to have you back.
Nice one.
A bit of heat shrink tube around your drillbits would last a bit longer than tape. Just a thought.
Good idea with the heat wrap, I have some somewhere
Welcome back buddy
Hey Rob, just checking in to see if you and the family are OK. It's been a while.
Sending best wishes from Connecticut USA.
Awesome
The original color is VERY close to a yellow gold that was on the Thunderbird air cleaner and valve covers from 1962-63.
Very cool Mercury I also restored one recently.
I was born in Cornwall a place called truro and then moved to redruth, my all time favourite place to go when I lived there was either falmouth, st Ives or newquay
I know what you mean, Rob: I use a drill press with drill bits and it's started pushing the bits up as I'm pushing down!
I could think I'm making headway on drilling down the center of the post when, in fact, I'm really not making any progress in the least!
I've also looked into those drill bits that are a combination of a drill bit and a drill tap!
Welcome back Rob! So who stached you away from creating awesome matchbox restorations? Lol
Definitely enjoying seeing the whole process, it will give people a good look at just what all is involved in working on a casting! :) I agree with Rich Secker below on the deep metallic green...it would be gorgeous with some black accenting and shiny chrome/metal to contrast with the green. :)
I wonder if some plumber's thread seal tape would work better at holding the drill bit in the chuck.
good to see you back rob. hope all is well I look forward to seeing the end result. if your going resto leave as it came but if doing extra details then why not do the doors etc.
Nice to see you, paint it any color you think would make it pop. I am thinking gold or black.
hi, for the really small drill sizes I'm using al small chuck that srews into my drill like a srew bit. That works perfectly for me.
Hi Rob. Good to see another video. Looking forward to the other parts. Metaliic Green would be a good colour for it.
Hi Rob. Looks like I made it back just in time. Life happens. Been away too long. Kinda glad you decided to do this one. If I ever get back home, I have one that I would like to do. Looking forward to continuing the series on this car. To me, in my opinion, I like the older model cars to look original. Maybe a wheel swap of some sort. Any way you choose to do it, I'm sure it will be great. Cheerio, buddy.
Where have you been man I've been looking forward to your videos for God knows how long and then all of a sudden you pop up out of nowhere give me a shout out
Hi Tony, hope you are well mate 👍🏼
Hi Rob, try getting some Hex Shank Drill bit sets. Love the channel BTW!
Cool to see the process and where this ends up. I've got a few king size ones waiting in the wings because I'm not sure what to do about wheels.
Nothing wrong with a good tea, black and no cream or sugar. I would be having a nice brown ale instead. Cheers from Chicago.
Good to see you back Rob. I would paint it black. The little boy or girl wanted it black why not. I just picked up one of those cougars in near-mint condition. Nice little car. Hope you're doing well. Take care. I like the longer format.
I think it will look good Black too
You should refile/change the drill bits. It is the same from more than a year and you use it a lot. Metal is no more sharp profiled. By the way the drill chuck may be no more gripping as it did once because inside the gear are a mix of metal and plastics so the second suffer aging. If you continue to press those are the first one to break. So you may consider a little upgrade/modification to the chuck to go full metal
Rob get a different drill bit!
Go Custom!
Gostei desse modelo, muito legal!
Good to see a new video. Wouldn't a drill press make drilling easier, and they normally have a key chuck so you can tighten it up even tighter than a keyless chuck?
I actually did buy a drill press but haven't used it yet 😄
Would like to see a metallic green
Maybe you need a Drill Doctor drill bit sharpener.
Great to see you back. Can you tell me where to send a box of cars I have found out for you ?
Hi mate, check out in the description of my videos 👍🏼
Grime looks like it could be Kojak lollipop dribble.
Yummy 😋
Polish it, and add a new gloss, metallic yellow.
That way it's both new and unique, but pays homage to the original.
Good idea, I might polish it up first then straight with a translucent colour 🤔
@@MatchboxGarage That would be neat, but my thought was giving it like a California cruiser lowrider style. Look up Jay Leno Lowrider on here, should be the first result. You'll see what I mean.
The chuck on your drill is worn out, replace it and you will be back to normal. Love the new format.
Can you change it on a drill?
@@MatchboxGarage you can, open the jaws as wide as possible to reveal the fixing deep down at the bottom, usually a Philips or Allan key, looks like you have a Bosch drill so parts are usually available for sale on the bay of fleas. Just search for your particular model number, and bits should just pop up. That should dispense with the tape. Good luck and when will part 3 be out. Lol
Yellow just doesn't seem right for a Cougar. I'd go with something like a dark red.
One more comment, well question. Where do you get replacement wheels for matchbox for the older Matchbox cars?
Usually eBay for replacement tyres
Yet do it up as an XR7I think it'd be cool if they made a fire Mr. Red which is really really cool collar and it's good to see you my friend you'll see my comments
Have you ever owned a Mercury Tony?
@@MatchboxGarage yes xr7 1968 390 4 sp
I'll look there fine
Just curious, what brand of Tea do you drink?
Yorkshire Tea 🍵
Oh ok, I was just wondering im a PG Tips guy myself. Love your videos. Cant wait to see the finish on the Mercury
He's gone
Make me a dark blue
You forgot to lubricate your tap twice on this show
🤣
Doc,martin
Think i prefer the shorter videos. My attention span isn't that long. Lol

No disrespect intended, but I much prefer your original format.
Please keep that and go back to it
I will be using both
