I have a 77 Fender Jazz & a Sadowsky Jazz.... at home they both sound amazing, but live, the Fender just doesn't cut through like the Sadowsky does...& the Sadowsky feels better & weighs half of the Fender.
The fender is too scooped esp. when you have both pickups set to the max. If you listen to SMV, you will realize how drowned M's bass sounded when they all played together. The fedora and Alembic just drowned the fender out...
I ordered a Sadowsky custom bass (J/J), this video backed up what I know, when you find a nice vintage bass, like that gorgeous '77, you get a ton of character. The Elite does a few things like the sustain and harmonics a bit better, but I love the character of the 77, having said that Sadowsky is a lovely combo
Sadowsky just fills the room, it is focused, compressed, and even. Probably just the superior craftsmanship makes it superior. Fenders are great tough but not on pairs with that master-built monster. The elite sounds more polite compared to the 77. You have done a great job, enjoyed this video. Congrats!
@@pertybass Agree. I have a CS Fender jazz and a Sad Metroline (MIJ). You might expect the CS jazz better in terms of sound and quality but the details of that Sadowsky and solid craftsmanship make it my favorite. However, I am still a sucker for good CS Fenders, but the price and quality ratio is far behind Sadowskys.
Interesting comparison - thanks for doing this. The Elite sounds the most different. The 77 and Sadowsky are a closer match. Curious what pickups are in the Sadowsky? I know the Elite has the noiseless pickups which are dual-coil. Wondering if that accounts for the difference in sound. I'm assuming the 77 Jazz are original single-coil pickups. In my experience the higher end Jazz basses seem to have less of growl and presence. It's interesting that the Sadowsky retains a bit more of that vintage sound (in my opinion). I think a lot of people prefer the more vintage sound (as I do) but I wonder if that is because that is what our ears are most used to hearing.
Great basses ! To me the 77 and the Sadowsky are ahead. But the Elite for certain things like slap is more modern with the trebble ajustment. Just my point of view. Nice playing as usual ;-)
I would fail to recognize on a blindtest between the 2 young warriors in active.... :D Much more easier to recognize the vintage maple ash combo... Brilliant technic, and nice playing!! More important than the logos or woods... :) I'm a 5er so would trade or sell them if got one of these, but superior basses all of them.
Funny, I'm more a 4 guy and I actually just put a V up for sale and someone's going to hit me up 2 months or two years from now asking me if I still have it, this I'm sure of. If someone had an elite in this color in a 4 string they'd likely have themselves a deal on a trade!

@@pertybass I feel the same way about my Marcus Miller v7. I like the sound of the Fender better but the v7 is more comfortable. That’s why I’m looking into changing the preamp to a Sadowsky, not sure which pickups to get.
I like the extra growl of the 77.
Thanks

Interesting comparison. I was a bit surprised how little I liked the sadowsky in passive.
Thanks
I like the 77 in passive and the Sadowsky in active. It comes down to playability.
me too

You are exactly right! They all are great but the craftsmanship of the Sadowsky makes it just better. And this is something you cant show on UA-cam

Thanks! For me, the Sadowsky is the best and the most comfortable to play
Its hard to choose one... Amazing basses. Great comparison man !! 👏👏👏
Thanks! 👍
Excellent review for me passive Fender 77- Active Sadowsky. But these are all beast it's a matter of taste and your needs.
Totally agree!

Thanks for sharing!
I am shocked how similar the Elite is to the 77. It sounds a little darker due to rosewood and pickup placement but it is darn close!
Thanks
The Jazz Elite seems to be more versatile tone wise , also looks great in that colour combination
the neck is striped ebony not rosewood
Thanks

I'll take the 77 Fender

They all sound good. If the Sadowsky is the most comfortable playing, that’s the winner.
Thanks, the Sadowsky is definitely the most comfortable one for playing

I prefer the Elite, especially for slap.
Thank you
Hi! Nice vid and groove. What strings did you use on the 77'?
Thank you. DR Lo Rider 045-105
hello if you’re not using your Fender American Elite Jazz Bass Ocean Turquoise anymore can you please give it to me 👍💪😇🦟
If it was only mine....
77, Sadowsky and Ultra in that order.
Thanks
@@pertybass Agree
How much does your 77 weigh? It sounds incredible.
A lot! 4.732 kilos (10.43 Pounds)
@@pertybass I've always thought you can only get that tone from a heavy bass. Sounds incredible man.
Is Sadowsky single coil or Humcanceling?
Humcanceling
1977 baby!!
Thanks
I think old Fender is the best.
I like all 3 !
Saying %50 bass for ultra, you mean no add the bass, because it has cut and boost on it.
Its 50% above detent - boost over the middle
@@pertybass Thanks
The winner is... Roger Sadowsky. He built a nowaday Fender's top quality instrument.
I also think so
Elite the Best!!
Thanks!
@@pertybass I also have that same bass 😉
77 and Sadowsky are close very similar midrange goodness but the 77 has more 🏀⚾️⚽️🏐🏈🎱
Thanks
The real winner is the owner of these awesome instruments 😄
I do wonder how a modern made in America I or II fender would compare.
Thanks!!!
Can't hear the snare.
snane ?
***snare. Funny fail.

Fender 1977 passive - Fender elite active.

Sadowsky better that Fender....
Thanks
The Elite sounds awful in comparison. The 77' Fender is the best sounding, even without a preamp like the other two.
