- CW activation at park K-5322, Sugar Hill State Forest. This is a really cool place. There's a fire tower, a waterfall, tons of trails, camping, etc. I hiked back in to the Finger Lakes Trail and set up at Lean To #1 for a little CW POTA using my new FX-4CR paired with an Emtech ZM-2 tuner and a 41' random wire antenna with a 17' counterpoise. The radio worked pretty well. I was only running 5 watts, but the radio is capable of 20w output. It has a really nice color waterfall display, built in Bluetooth digital, and for SSB you can either run the included (tiny) mic, or you can use the built in mic and use the RIT button for PTT. All in all a pretty cool little radio. It's got some quirks, but it's pretty nice considering the feature set and price. Thanks to all the hunters today. I appreciate your patience.
Enjoy!

Great stuff... I did an activation, recorded it.... Tried editing out all my "mess ups"... Then i had no footge left.
I feel your pain Ed. I mean, the reality is we all make mistakes. I just tend to make a lot of them LOL
What an awesome job that would have been for a Ham lol.
Lotsa horse flies!
Yeah, they were EVERYWHERE. It was bad, but the previous activation was worse. It was so bad I actually didn't even put the video up because I spent half the time swatting them away LOL. Thanks for watching!
Nice activation. Thanks for taking us along! 72/3 de N4AAJ
Thank you!
It's fun listening to calls come in that I have logged!
Just an update. I got FT8CN working via Bluetooth. It's awesome!
Thanks for sharing. Will look for you on the bands.
Thanks!
Very cool radio!
Thanks! Yeah, it's a neat little rig
Thank you for these videos. I would love to have one of these CW only radios! W1RCY
Actually, the radio I'm using in the video as a160M-6M all mode radio. It does CW, SSB, and Digital (either wired or via Bluetooth). There are a pile of CW only radios that are great though. The LNR radios are awesome, as are the Penntek radios. The SW-3B I used in my last video is a nice little radio with really good audio, and it's only $188. There are lots of others out there, but those are the ones that come to mind. Of course, there's always the grail Elecraft KX1, but good luck finding one of those LOL
@@EvanK2EJT Thank you! I was checking out the SW-3B from your last video! :)
Cool video, must see if I can get a FX-4CR in the UK, always envious of the parks you have in the US,
It's a cool little radio, and yes there are some awesome parks here in the US. Thanks for watching!
Awesome little radio. I just pre-ordered one:)
Great video btw. 🍻

It's got a lot of really nice features, and it's hard to beat for the price.
Did you make your own bnc jumpers?
Are you talking from the radio to the tuner? No, I'm too lazy for that lol. I bought it on Amazon. I suppose it would probably be a good idea to pick up some RG316 and some BNC connectors so I could make my own cables though since I use so much of the stuff. Thanks for watching!

You should of activated in the tower
I have the feeling the ranger wouldn't have liked that LOL. I HAVE considered using the tower as a counterpoise though, Maybe I'll do that next time I activate there
What type of pack are you using?
It's a Hill People Gear Umlindi V2. Awesome pack. Not cheap, but definitely worth the money
