Yes, when they had something they could hard for…. Themselves. Today people have to work for the wealthy corporations that share nothing and pay the same.

They had very tough lives. Yet I suspect there were far fewer cases of anxiety and depression, especially in young people, than there is today. What does that tell us?

Clothes don't make the man. It's understatedly true looking at these hard working humble quiet resigned-to-life looking people. Thank you for sharing these lovely and profound pictures.

Those people struggled and suffered terribly so we can it easy today. My parents and grandparents were from that time and I've heard the stories of how hard it was. Excellent video. Excellent choice of music.

Love watching these videos, not only for the imaginative photographs, but also for the fabulous music. I like to wonder about the people featured therein: what were their lives like? Did they have any simple pleasures to reward their hard work? How did they endure the hard, bitterly cold winters? How did they “make do” when money was so scarce? Yes, things were so much simpler then; life was all about work, subsistence, and survival. Hard, yes, but without all the crazy-making irrelevancies of post modern life. In a way, I envy them. Thanks for the glimpses into the past.

Wow! People who did without always had Gratitude for everything that they could earn. People today, mostly young ones. have NEVER had to do without anything (cell phones, housing, money, entertainment) and therefore have no gratitude and only an "entitlement" attitude... They are quite pathetic compared to the people who came before them.
Gratitude is the highest of Virtues and the Mother of all Virtues.... Borrowed that, but it's true....

They sure did have hard lives. Their body’s looking much older than they were, as you can see some with younger children looking so old. Tough people. I don’t think you could find many people today that could endure what they did.
