Hey Michael. I uploaded a video of a stick dulcimer I made after watching your instuctional videos. Thanks for sharing those.
I enjoy seeing all the new instruments you make.

Even when I thought that certain hummels/ scheitholts couldn't become smaller....I was wrong again. Charming instrument, and despite the size a rather full sound.

I hope you can help me out. For a school project to bring more music into class lessons on primary school, I am planning to make an instrument which has to mix the best sound and music possibilities between a dulcimer, a hummel and an epinette. The epinettes always strike me as the most clear and sparkling sounding ones of this family of instruments. Does it have to do with the woods, and if so, can you inform me what kinds of wood are preferred for epinettes? I would be most grateful for your information.

The epinette is related to the older scheitholt. The older instrument was smaller and shorter scale and strung with brass. The later one used mandolin strings and hardware with longer scale. The woods used were dense fruitwoods. Almond, pear,. Beech wood backboards. Dense woods bright sound. They get their sound from the surface they are placed on. (They have nails for feet that dig into farmyard tables )
