Oddly, it had the "footprint" on the ground level of where the structure was intended to be, but the prefab itself was missing. That would explain why! Good stuff!

It would if you have the right tags, and placed the right objects. You would need the quest starter object with the "!", the courier sachel for the fetch quest, the quest generator if its a power quest, etc. Then, of course, the right tags to denote it is a tier 5 POI. [Genosis] Hi, the complication for replacing a live map is the existing save data. It already recorded certain areas and stored them in the state they were when you found them before you replaced the map. There is a couple ways around this. After you edit the map in the world editor, place your prefabs and save it, and then upload it, you need to reset some of your save data. The first way is just resetting the chunk by logging in, standing where the prefab SHOULD be and press F1 and type "cr". This resets the chunk area you are standing in, and should pop in. You may need to do it more than once if it's a partial replacement. The 2nd way is by deleting the region file. You can hit F3 and click the "CH" tab to show the region file name. If there are no bases in the area, it should be save to locate the file in your save folder and delete the entire region. You would shut down the server before and after you've done this, of course.
How can I upload a prefab to a server that I own? I know, there's very helpful info into a local game but maybe for a server that you own would be useful. Thank you!
[Genosis] you would have to download the map from the server to your local game, use the world editor to place it, save. Take note of the region (hit F3 and the CH button to see it) Then upload it back to the server, and if there isn’t a base nearby you’re trying to preserve, delete the region file in the save directory. That way, the save file forgets you were there, and clears the cache in that area, loading that new prefab. Take backups of your save file ahead of time!
@@NotAGamerGaming That worked! Thank you! I was able to place the POI of a shopping center as a test. Then, I went to do the one I was really wanting, your asylum, and all that happens is the green letters denoting the name are on the ground. I can move it up and down, left and right, but there is no outline selection area and nothing underneath the words. Any thoughts on this?

@@NotAGamerGaming I created my own server on an app where I randomly generate a world with some options like more of a biome or bigger cities or smaller towns, you get it. did it there then went create the world and did what you did basically
Tried this and managed to place a "mirage" POI that isn't there when I stand on the spot it was placed, but when I move a certain distance from it I can see it! NO idea what is going on but I wish this was a simpler thing to do. Desperately wanted to experience the Edan Mall for example.
What you are looking at is the "imposter", which is a low poly 3D model you can see from far away, so the game doesn't have to load in the thousands of blocks to assemble the building from a great distance. Now, when you get close and the game renders the chunk to load in the blocks and assemble the POI, it's not there. That means the POI is not cached within the chunk, and it didn't exist when the map was created (or it was since destroyed, this is going to be fixed in A20). To remedy that, stand where the POI is supposed to be, hit F1, and type "cr" ( this means chunk reset). If you are standing within the prefab boundary, it should regenerate the POI and recache the chunk you are in.
@@iblack585 While standing at the location and in DM mode, hit F3 once or twice. Should bring up a data window on the left. Click the "CH" radio button (for Chunk, I imagine), and you should see the region file listed.

I will have to review the Alpha 20 editor, for some reason I think text can now. I'll have to check to confirm, unless it was some sort of hack when I saw it. Paint, absolutely. It's part of the design process!
@@Genosis ok, cool. be nice to know. we tried taking a custom made poi and saving it, but lost the text. he took it into the poi editor (and thanks to your show ground button) was able to play around with it. [Genosis] You will have to fill in some ground first. Create a selection with Z, then do a fill of whatever material (dirt, concrete, etc) then you can place blocks on top of it
There isn’t much more to them? The ground level feature auto handles rng generation, manual placement you have to count manually. 12 blocks in ground, just drag it down 12 blocks and place. For this prefab it was 1 block in the ground due to the floor level, so I put it down one block on the Y axis.
@@branchcore basically you have ground level and everything below. if your cave or whatever is x amount of blocks below ground level, when placing it you drag it down that same number of blocks down. like i have a poi i built that is 9 blocks below ground level, so when placing it i move it down 9 blocks.
Very nice video. I kinda have worked out how to do this but your way is much better. Especially the "Z" level when trying to add a custom poi. I have a tough time making custom poi entities at negative Z levels. Actually I cannot at all without taking the Z level above the "ground" and positioning the poi in the world by taking the ground away before I place it. For instance, how do you make a basement in the editor? Thanks for doing these tutorials! I really appreciate what you have done!! :)
The basement is managed by the "ground level" feature, where you place the checkered floor. The ground level up/down and the move prefab up/down would accomplish that. The bottom of the prefab is the basement, adjust ground level to where it is supposed to be place ground level on the map. RNG maps handle this automatically, when manually placing as in this video, you have to count. As in the video, the simple example was the prefab was 1 block into the ground, so I put it one block into the ground on its Y axis. For a basement level, you might have 4-6 blocks to insert it into the ground. The clipboard feature lets you see where the prefab is going to be placed before finalizing it. I copy into clipboard, adjust where its supposed to be, then paste. This is not permanent, the blocks you paste are temporary. Move your selection to adjust where its supposed to be, paste again. Once you get it right, and the prefab is lined up, then insert the prefab (when the box goes green, confirming your placement). At that point you can make any last minute rotations using X, then save your world.
Useful video, although I'm not there yet, just installed the game. I was wondering, when in Nexusmods a guy said to install his prefab-creation in the game_root/mods folder. All the other prefab-mods so far told to install into ...\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\LocalPrefabs. So I used his link to come watch this video. Didn't reply my question, but useul video still.
Hello, thanks for the video, one question, does this work for a rented server in a game already created? Would all players have to install the prefab in the local Steam files folder? Thank you
Just realised I do have a question. As far as I know a chunk is 16x16 and a region is 512x512. If you do the Chunk Reset to allow the save to get info from the region file for that chunk, what if the prefab stradled 2 ore more chunks? I assume you just need to reset each and every one of the chunks. But this raises another question - what about S.I. What if the Chunk reset doesn't load the entire prefab, and parts of what is now loaded and visible depends on support from parts that are in the next chunk over ... I guess I'm going to just have to go and test that myself.
It's a good question; either it respawns the entire prefab triggered by part of the prefab being in the chunk, or you have to step into the area that isn't completely loaded, and reset that chunk too. I've done this across a few different alphas, and noticed varying behavior. I had no problem with the Canucks Coffee, and it's definitely larger than 16x16. I wonder if that will work with the IZEA .. hmm.
[Genosis] It should, but it may be helpful if I do an update for A20 to go over the process again. I heard "cr" was not supposed to work any more, but I've used it recently and seemed fine. Could have been a recent update.
@@NotAGamerGaming I'm afraid I've tried this in alpha 20 in multiple ways, local, not local, using same system servers, remote servers, and when I try in alpha 19 it does work, but I don't think it works anymore at least not in alpha 20.2 (b2)
[Genosis] Good questions; when it comes to servers, you'd have to download the world file, modify it with the world editor, place your prefabs, then upload it back to the server, replacing the world file. The complication comes in with the world's saved data. If someone has already traveled into that region then you'd need to manually go to where the prefab was placed, and hit "cr" to clear the chunk, or delete the region file where it is located. (You can find the region file by hitting F3 while standing at the location, and click the "ch" button, displaying the region file name). Ideally, no one has already made their base in that area :P
This is awesome. Why am i just finding it now??? We had sooooo many issues with the unable to do anything in the editor..... Going to test it out in this next map. I did have a question though..... do you have any recommendations on recording/editing software? 7 Days is a resouce hungry game... I don't know how to tell how lightweight a recording software can be, if I can handle both it and the game. (Ark is a little hungry, but not as insanely bad as 7 Days).
We use OBS, which is highly configurable. If your system struggles, you can modify the processor strain at the expense of a bit of quality. If you need some help with settings, hit me up on our discord
@@Genosis after the fact of course, it was pointed out that Nvidea has a built in recording software. I ran a download update on my copy, and used that to record about 25 minutes of Ranch sim. Doing so I discovered it did use my headphone output, but cause I had them set as headphones (Bluetooth earbuds yay) , it didn't actually record my hub snoring lol. I've been playing with Filmora to try and shorten it down, fast forwarding thru mundane crap. But it's tricky figuring it out @.@ I'll get there I'm sure. Where there's a will theres a way and all that. Heh
Awesome! Thanks for the tutorial. I've been lost without access to the K menu in the game. I have kinda figured out how to use the block replacement tool to help level out the ground for building. Still not as convenient as the K menu used to be. I do have a tutorial request. Do you happen to know how to get multiple and specific traders to spawn in a custom built trader POI? I built one and everything works fine but trader Joel is the only trader that spawns in. I would kind of like to have one of each trader instead of five copies of Joel. I've tried looking for a radial menu option for the trader spawn block but I have found nothing. Does the xml file for the POI need to have some specific lines of code added in manually to get different traders? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. :-)
Hmm last I checked, you can place specific traders with the creative menu. I put trader Jen down in a build once before, and had to figure out how to remove her heh.
@@Genosis Thanks for the quick reply and the suggestion. The creative menu option is the work around that I have been using so far. I would just like to know how to get different traders using the trader spawn block like the ones used in the original trader POI's. It would be nice if the trader spawn block had a radial menu that would allow you to choose which trader the block spawns in. Unfortunately it doesn't. I wished they would supply a dang manual for the editor sections of the game. Trying to figure certain things out is a major pain in the butt sometimes.
@@GunChronicles I honestly never looked at the trader spawn block.. maybe there is a “k” menu, or perhaps they are in a volume? Maybe open a trader in the prefab editor and it may be apparent there? I’m kinda curious now
@@Genosis Yep... tried all of that. No luck. I've tried every click and key press combination that is normally used for block interactions and even tried all of the function keys. Nothing seems to work. I even tried naming the new custom built POI using the name of one of the other traders besides Joel in hopes that the file name was somehow associated to the trader that gets spawned in. That didn't work either. I've even studied the xml files for the regular trader POI's and nothing stands out in the code as being the key to which trader spawns in. I'm beginning to think that it is in the meta data contained in the tts prefab files. How you would begin to edit that I don't know.
If that happens, I can assume the prefab may not have been properly registered on the map, or it didn't save. When you go back to edit the world, do you still see the POI there?
I have the same problem. Dont know how to fix this. The pio is there when I go to world editor but dont show up in the game. I press F1 and cr but it dosent help.
[Genosis] ive heard through the modder community that CR is disable due to issues it creates with the new alpha. The only way is to delete the region file the PoI is in. A region is a 512x512 area so it’s not nearly as precise anymore. You also have to be aware if it’s going to nuke someone’s base. Hmm seems like a video I need to do
This is super helpful already but I ran into a wall; when I go into the world editor, it doesn't seem to show my worlds. It just says Navezgane, and then PREGEN1-3 (on both load world and create new world). I can't go further :( I literally just wanted the neon "open" sign but turned on and the only way to spawn one with it on is to create a block with the sign on it in the prefab editor. SO much hassle for the aesthetic. Idk if any of this makes sense.
[Genosis] Sorry for the late reply (catching up when we can, especially on how to videos) For the worlds, try copying the worlds you're editing into the data/worlds folder, there might be a disconnect from the "generated worlds" perhaps? As for the signs, yeah it's unfortunate that you can't "activate" electrical items that are only in the creative menu. There are mods that let you connect electricity to them, such as in Undead Legacy. It lets you pick up any electrical lights, etc and wire them up back at your base. There maybe easier stand alone mods for this, and it may not be that hard to figure out how to write a simple modlet to do it.
Exactly the same reason I'm here. I just want to place an illuminated exit sign into my save game and it's ridiculously complicated. I'll never understand why they didn't just make all lights and signs able to be connected to a power source.
No, not really, it wasn't nice and clear. I'm not a native English speaker, and I had difficulties to hear all you said. In a tutorial video with imprtant details that all need to be heard, you might want to speak slower and clearer. Because you aren't the clearest speaker for a non-native to listen. Pausing, listening couple of times, and with UA-cam subtitles, I got it all. I listen English pretty fluently (not quite native level) but even machinegun-speakers like Alex Jones, I can get 100% what he says. And he is faster speaker than you.

This was very helpful, now to see if it still works in alpha 20.
I wish I could tell you it will but I have no idea. Lol!
Genosis shall field all questions lol I’m just here for comic relief 😂
It's a good question; either it respawns the entire prefab triggered by part of the prefab being in the chunk, or you have to step into the area that isn't completely loaded, and reset that chunk too. I've done this across a few different alphas, and noticed varying behavior. I had no problem with the Canucks Coffee, and it's definitely larger than 16x16. I wonder if that will work with the IZEA .. hmm.
Ok, just tested; the IZEA is 129 x 164, and was placed in the map with a single CR command. It does cascade across chunks and load in the whole POI.
@@Genosis Thank you, that is useful!
How do you select it using your "selection abilities"?
[Genosis] ah this is a video in a series of videos, I believe our 2nd one covered selections in details
ua-cam.com/video/nutso62En3Q/v-deo.html
Great video! I have been deleting region files to get my prefabs into saves. 'cr' would be so much easier...
[Genosis] Oh absolutely, it's basically the same thing, just easier and more precise (chunks instead of regions)
Does this works with A20?
[Genosis] It should, but it may be helpful if I do an update for A20 to go over the process again. I heard "cr" was not supposed to work any more, but I've used it recently and seemed fine. Could have been a recent update.
@@NotAGamerGaming I'm afraid I've tried this in alpha 20 in multiple ways, local, not local, using same system servers, remote servers, and when I try in alpha 19 it does work, but I don't think it works anymore at least not in alpha 20.2 (b2)
@@josecardenas2197 same issue
Great workaround, but how do we do it in a hosted server, thanks!
Thanks. :-)
I’m so glad the tutorial has been helping :)
Update video?😬
[Genosis] very soon! I’m thinking about a weekly series on prefabs on my solo channel
So.... what about a20?
Genosis has some plans to work on a new prefab series :)
@@NotAGamerGaming Thanks, I'm exploring it, but it's taking me forever. And this series was super super helpful.
After hitting CR the prefab didn't show up
If that happens, I can assume the prefab may not have been properly registered on the map, or it didn't save. When you go back to edit the world, do you still see the POI there?
@@Genosis yea i see the poi in the edit world. But when In survival there is nothing in that area. The land looks all flattened out though
[Genosis] Hmm this reply got lost in the shuffle, did you end up getting it to work?
I have the same problem. Dont know how to fix this. The pio is there when I go to world editor but dont show up in the game. I press F1 and cr but it dosent help.
[Genosis] ive heard through the modder community that CR is disable due to issues it creates with the new alpha. The only way is to delete the region file the PoI is in. A region is a 512x512 area so it’s not nearly as precise anymore. You also have to be aware if it’s going to nuke someone’s base.
Hmm seems like a video I need to do
Thanks dude.
when i name and save it says access C:/bla bla access denied help
[Genosis] maybe launch 7 days to die in admin mode (right click on the exe file, properties, compatibility, launch as administrator)
[Genosis] Sorry for the late reply (catching up when we can, especially on how to videos)
For the worlds, try copying the worlds you're editing into the data/worlds folder, there might be a disconnect from the "generated worlds" perhaps?
As for the signs, yeah it's unfortunate that you can't "activate" electrical items that are only in the creative menu. There are mods that let you connect electricity to them, such as in Undead Legacy. It lets you pick up any electrical lights, etc and wire them up back at your base.
There maybe easier stand alone mods for this, and it may not be that hard to figure out how to write a simple modlet to do it.
@@NotAGamerGaming Hey, it's cool that you responded at all lol. No worries there.
But yeah, I'll try this out. Thanks so much for the feedback!
"or will you?". You are tricky tricky tricky Gen.
Scandalous!!! ;)
Gotta lead the audience and take them on a journey ;)
FOUND IT HOLD-SHIFT AND USE G AGAIN FOR PEOPLE WONDERING ! :D
[Genosis] Ha yes, I covered that in episode 2 of my prefab series I think
@@NotAGamerGaming Thx for reply :)
Wish this worked in Alpha 20. 😒
I just want yo turn on a lamp, why so complicated ⚰️
[Genosis] it can be complicated! That’s why I made this series, to support another generation of builders. Can never have enough PoI’s!
