Today, we explore an abandoned fairytale mansion perched on a mountainside, nestled within an ancient woodland under the shade of the oldest trees, a place that feels more like a scene from a fairytale…
Built in the early 15th century by the most powerful and influential noble family in Croatia, this magnificent castle was the first settlement in the area.
It stands proudly, in spite of all the terrible wars and great disturbances.
Numerous generations of this family lived and ruled here for more than two centuries.
In 1671, when the last member of the family was beheaded, the lineage ended with his death.
The castle was then looted, completely stripping it of its original fame and wealth.
Precious old weapons, books, beautiful furniture, ivory and silver, carriages decorated with gold and other valuables, all lost…
The castle passed through multiple wealthy families over the years, before becoming a retirement home and lastly, a hotel and restaurant…
It originally had a draw bridge, chapel and dungeon, the detached buildings are where the guards and commanders would have lived and the building outside of the castle walls was the horse stable.
As time went by, the dungeon area was converted into an underground tavern for a period, this eventually became kitchens for the hotel and they remain this way today.
Much of the building has been altered and renovated but some original features survived, including the watch tower and remnants of the chapel.
When the hotel closed, this magnificent castle was left abandoned and has remained so ever since…

This castle has not been abandoned since the sixteenth century . The grass would so high you couldn't see the place . You said that building was a garage . They didn't have cars at that time . That castle would not even be standing .

Many people from Carew village will tell you of their encounters with a white lady; a kindly spirit who walks the ruins in daylight or in the flood of the full moon. This is the ghost of Princess Nest, the most beautiful woman in Wales, who still welcomes visitors to her castle just as she would have done 900 years ago.

Warwick Castle is spectacular inside and out 🏰 But a lot of castle's in the UK are protected. But they could explore remains of castle's but some of these gems are on private property. No harm in them both having a word with an owner. Then it all depends whether they can film the location or take photos. Some places they can get funny 👎 I love castle's especially in Scotland absolutely stunning 📸 Stirling Castle is breathtaking and the scenery is something else 🏰🏔️

The rooms with the columns and arch built into the wall looks more like where the head of a bed would go and perhaps had 4 ornate columns adorning the bed. That'd be a room I'd want to stay in. This place is amazing!

Two things that stand out: How solidly the place was built, that the ceilings, floors and staircases aren’t rotted away more than they are after being abandoned; and the absence of fireplaces throughout. How grand it had to be to live and to visit there. Thank you from Massachusetts for bringing us along!

That almost Italianate style of the main buildings doesn’t look early 15th century. The town walls do, though. I imagine that the buildings have been rebuilt once or twice. Marvellous ceilings, though, in some of those rooms, as you said!

Only if there were real estate companies, or small interest groups to restore places that aren't deemed unlivable to invest and sell at an at cost for the repairs price.
You can't rely on the Uber wealthy that spend 180k on bottles of champagne to restore beautiful and abandoned real estate, their interests lye elsewhere.
To think, around the world, you can imagine the thousands and thousands of restorable places that can house the homeless with a project of some kind.
Sadly, it's all special interest.
I tend to rant, but I agree it's a shame with these gorgeous homes.
