Does anyone else love the ending when everybody just starts smiling and singing together?
Yes 👍
Feel good moment
I certainly do.
Because he’s already dead.
That’s why they show the ambulance and *then* the businessman says “there’s no hurry”. Because the ambulance can’t save him anyway.
Who else could make such a feel-good, enjoyable song about a man suffering a heart attack?
Johannes Wikström Yup you are right they are my 1st top band in my head
They Might Be Giants
@@BroForce426 Actually yes you're right. I'm reminded of their song "My man" about the joys of total spinal paralysis.
Yes
Yeah i also like the way the guy having the heart attack joins in singing with a big smile on his face.
Brilliant, try listening to house of fun and shut up.
This song needs to be played at all Corporate Christmas parties and at other office parties also. It is still crazy the way people put their jobs ahead of their personal wellbeing. By all means add value at work because people do depend on you, but you depend on you even more.
💫💓💫
It's crazy how doctors are often themselves unhealthy because of their intense job.
Don't you worry there's no hurry it's a lovely day, could all be going your way, take the doc's advice let up enjoy your life, listen to what they say, it's not a game they play.
Well said. Enjoy life not the strife!
Now that's a piece of wisdom right there, words to the wise and the like. Thumbs Up!
Probably THE! most underrated English band, Madness were genius.
Zebedee you realise the sheer amount of top 10s they had
@@silicate420 I do but I don't think it was underrated, but MODERN madness is.
The thing I always loved about Madness was how most of their songs had this subtle edge, where the wacky instrumentals would become somehow sinister in lyrical context. This song is the prime example of this - the protagonist's plight is treated as comical and ordinary, but it quickly turns into an absurdist tragedy as things get worse. The instrumentals contrast so brilliantly with the lyrics and create this disturbing effect.
Who says they were underrated. They were huge
Between 1980 to 1986 they were in the charts for a total of 214 weeks.... no other 80s act achieves this except for UB40 they equaled it but it was over a couple more years..
I'm
10 and I think madness are the greatest band ever!
Why does no one my age listen to them?
Pull yourself together now, don't get in a state. Such a British way of looking at things. Stiff upper lip and all that. I love Madness
Stoic to the backbone lol. It's what makes the British who they are. Legends.
The xylophone break with the dancing businessmen! Just brilliant!
That's Mike Barson
Genius, really.
Lll I know, Mike was driving the bus 20 seconds before that 🤭
*vibraphone
@@tweer64 Shucks, 6 years to get that right
By far the funniest bit in this is that the fire brigade are called for a man having a heart attack
There's an important message in this song: Work will KILL you if you let it. Your job is NOT your life. Your family and loved ones at home are much more important. They are waiting for you to come home tonight, so make sure you do that!
giusto ,
And of course, when you do start to die, everyone around you will start singing, with one guy wearing a red nose.
Shut up hippie
@@hi-ys7df But the worst time to have a cardiac arrest is when you're in front of everyone playing charades....
@@markperryman1797 Brilliant 🤣
Love how Barzo opens up his attache case and just happens to have a little xylophone in there ready for his solo. Great stuff, this.
Standard in the UK. And the conductor always has a sax....it's the only way to travel you know?
That is pure genius and it cracks me up. The "ticket inspector" pulling out his sax as well. The more I watch this video, the more I realise how genius it is.
Monsieur Barzo
Ha I knew Chas Smash when he was at school, I was two years older and he was friends with my younger cousin. From what I remember he was one of those people you couldn't help liking, always ready to have a laugh and quite a funny bloke himself. I'm glad he did well.
Good to see the old 73. Got this bus to school at Clissold Park every day and then into the West End. Best bus of all time!
Constantly disappointed when I see a business man on a bus or train open up a briefcase and NO xylophone.
Love your comment, made me smile.
busterkeatonsbriefs You're right. It should be mandatory for everyone to carry a xylophone in their briefcase and open it up and play a tune when someone in the vicinity suffers a life threatening cardio-vascular episode. I for one would very much like to be cheered up by a bit of nice music if I was dying of a heart attack on a bus.
+busterkeatonsbriefs this one made me laugh!! Thanks.
+busterkeatonsbriefs Brilliant comment. I think that if Madness were on my commute every morning, I would be very happy. I might need to get a bigger car...or take the bus.
Love it. Now you have put that thought in my head lol
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Madness and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
A very boring life.
Actually late 70s but more active around the 80s
you're welcome from the Britan
@@notsoundcontent4756
25 April 2020, Palermo, Sicily, Italy.
Not Sound Content, mine was a "general" thank you to ALL British bands. I used the plural. A thank you to those who started back in the 1960s, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Black Sabbath, in the 1970s, Sex Pistols, Siouxsie And The Banshees...actually, I tell you what, let me just add a scrambled list of the bands I referred to... Cocteau Twins, Prefab Sprouts, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, The The, Napalm Death, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Led Zeppelin, Yazoo, Iron Maiden, Discharge, Police, Lush, Blur, The Smiths, Fall, Sex Pistols, Human League, Buzzcocks, Jamiroquai, Clash, Wire, Madness, Broadcast, The Beatles, Cure, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Goldfrapp, Dubstar, Charlatans, Ride, Heaven 17, Judas Priest, Marillion, Throbbing Gristle, Curve, Dire Straits, Teardrop Explodes, Carcass, Eurythmics, Soft Cell, Dead Or Alive, Psychedelic Furs, Killing Joke, Simple Minds, XTC, The Streets, Lily Allen, Tears For Fears, Supertramp, The Kooks, Duran Duran, Groove Armada, Genesis, Amy Winehouse, Coldplay, Saxon, Dead Can Dance, Massive Attack, Electric Light Orchestra, The Who, Inspiral Carpets, The Wedding Presents, Kate Bush, The Rolling Stones, Housemartins, Visage, Howard Jones, Everything But The Girl, Roxy Music, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, 10cc, Ladytron, Japan, Morcheeba, Helen Love, Mark Ronson, Bauhaus, Kate Nash, Cardiacs, Black Sabbath, Slowdive, Oasis, The Sundays, All Saints, Portishead, Verve, David Bowie, Bauhaus, Elastica, Adam & The Ants, Nick Kershaw, Hey Elastica, Spandau Ballet, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Badly Drawn Boy, Tricky, Pale Saints, Cranes, The Creatures, Public Image Limited, Bronski Beat, Fine Young Cannibals, Madness, Extreme Noise Terror, Stranglers, Stereolab, Keane, Motorhead...Do you see now?
@@benedettobruno1669 you have great taste in music man that's quite a list👍
This was the first Madness single in a while that failed to make the top ten in the UK charts, only peaking at number 14. This was due to it receiving very little airplay on the radio due to the subject matter, despite it not actually being banned. It is however imo as good as any of the early Madness singles with yet again another brilliant video.
How ridiculous. And the crap they play now on radio 1??? Love this tune
it was eventually banned completely by radio 1.
+Sharow Law
thats a good thing, we cant forget amazing music like this, compared to the cr@p from today
Mike Benson do you know why ?
I heard this on a Madness greatest hits album that came to the States after Our House was a hit here. I assumed this was a big hit there, and the message is delivered so tamely! Then again, back in those days "the C-word" was "cancer".
The early 80s were pretty rough in the UK, two recessions, lots of political problems, but I can't help look back and wish I could go back again. Maybe everyone feels that way when they get older.
this shit called life hasn't got any better
Back when songs not only entertained, but told a story. And on top of that, a video that actually follows the narrative of the lyrics! This is unheard of today. This is one of the many reasons I have been a Madness fan for over 35 years.
You cant possibly be serious, if you dont seek out new music you won't find new music for you to like, and you dont have to, you already like this one, just dont judge what you dont know, music is extremely expansive universe
Hello,people in the world!
I'm a Japanese HS student(So,my English may be wrong.)
I coinocidentally came across this perfect song today(16th April 2022),and having felt in love with this perfect song and MADNESS!
I want to keep knowing more about MADNESS! Thank you!
If you want something distinctly Japanese, look up the adverts Madness did for the Honda City in the 80's.
Good for you
Your English is fabulous... better than my Japanese... Madness are good teachers. Watch more and be happy..!!

Never been underrated. One of the best English bands ever.
There will and has never been another band like Madness, glad I'm old and relaxed and don't worry, because the days are going my way :)
Totally brilliant tune from 1982. Without a doubt one of Madness best tunes.
i miss the music of madness in the 80s.they were so good.
ed campion your right shit nowadays
Chas Smash is like a professional actor in this. Didn't even realise it was one of the band at first
im 12 and madness is my favorite band since i was nine! i love this songs!!
it makes me sad when nobody my age wants to listen to it with me
based
I hope you as a 17yr old release how cringe this comment was
@@crunkaintdead7702 No, actually, I don't. I was twelve, i.e., a child, and was expressing my love for a band - one that no one my age listened to, which made it difficult to make friends and share my interests. Take your judgement and poor spelling elsewhere.
You are among lots and lots of Madness friends here. Be proud.
Remember, all the others are missing out.
Top lad, keep listening to Madness!
Brilliant the way various characters pull out xylophones and saxaphones. No one doe London like Madness
Love Madness. Never enough
I was never into madness, but now i got older and seeing them on youtube, i think they were really clever and entertaining.
And it's 2am again and I'm listen to Madness...
Me too!😁
Madness videos are ace
Me, my sister and my cousins absolutely loved it when he played the xylophone on the bus - a Madness video was a rare family affair back in those days!
Every time I listen to this song, I have an overwhelming urge to put on a bowler hat and wave an umbrella back and forth.
Just like Angry of Mayfair.
i want to get a walking stick solely so i can wave it in anger
Brilliant lyrics.
Any time I’m having a crap day I play and think about this song. It’s a lovely day so let’s enjoy it. As it could always be worse
Madness did some of the best videos ever.
One of the best songs from madness
THE best .
Remember Ladies and Gents you work to live, Not live to work.
My all time favourite madness song, has the family friendly ruthlessness boxed off .hilarious and terrifyingly accurate.
Chas is just great in this.
My favourite Madness song! Showing their utter Nuttiness! Their sheer songwriting and music writing genius! Just how great this Great British band are!!
Cardiac arrest by madness classic song from the eighties good music from them good stuff
Love this song. Love Madness ❤️
man gets heart attack after everyone in the bus starts yelling life advice in tune at him
Always plan your day with a nice one hour cushion for every major travel event.
the whole video is absolute genius... really funny but obviously about a tragic story... reminds me of my early City days...
I remember seeing them making this video. I used to work at the Angel, Islington at the CO-OP bank.
This is the first song ih
Have herd from madness back when is 7 now im 24 and madness whas my frist concert i have ever bin to back in 2012 and im fan evet sinds

2024 still listening my friend
This was always one of my favourite Madness tunes, genius
i miss the 80s that was the best year in music ever good memories.
madness made the best videos
42 years on. And still crushing out on madness
I'm amazed that the mob of lads could ever get things together enough to make a go of things. But I'm glad they did.
I adore the ending.
My nine year old girl loves this...so proud!!
Oooooh yass
She’s 12 now. Still love it?
Bloody lovely. I am having a Sweet 16 Dark Party for my daughter in December in Manhatten and she is putting her playlist together. I am proud to say that Madness, Duran Duran and several American 80's bands will be on it *sighs* There is hope yet for this generation :)
Madness dressed up truths of urban life British life with such style, wit & panache. Thank you for giving voice to my childhood
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea !"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
What???
@@David-h4z2s YOU WANT ROOM 16 FOR HIM ?
My mum bought a Best of Madness album when I was around 7 or 8. I listened to it a bunch. Prolly annoyed her. She's a good mum.
OMG how much more this applies today.
The video that made me a Madness fan when I stumbled upon it on Swap Shop (or Saturday Superstore) 30 years ago this month, still my favourite ever video.
Filmed mainly in the Camden Passage area of Islington, where I grew up and lived at that time. They use to play just down the road in the Kings Head during the early days.
I like the bit at the beginning with the pool table. Every time, i still expect the black ball to get potted.
We told you noit to hurry
It's actually 'Cadillac Arrest', but mis-spelt with a 'd'
Amazing lyrics when you stop and listen
Jesus only number 14 in the UK charts for this underrated gem. I mean how good was the 80's if this can't break the top 10. What a time for music compared with today's pish
Know I know what was in that suitcase in Pulp Fiction.
I thought that was about the Blue Brothers
@@DiegoGomez-el6te what an anticlimactic comment 😒
Brilliant
Takes me back to when my uncle bought me this album. I was only 6 but couldn't stop dancing to this band. One of the best presents i have even been bought. Still have the album
That Many Young people Don't know the band, don't mean "underrated".
lol I love this song
Thanks Go... Madness for this song. I do relax every day now.
Cant beat a bit of madness
Madness. A national institution. Brilliant, this is them right on form. 👍🇬🇧
Tune, lyrics, video, absolute genius.
Madness is a fantastically good band and this song shows just how good they are. Work to live, people, do not live to work, that'll be the end of yez.
My crushes since 1979. Gorgeous men genius music excellent videos I adore them
I still remember the lyrics to this song…word for word! 😏😆😎🎶
sometimes I think commuters are just like this…ha ha
This is such a great song and amazing video. No million pound productions, but a low budget video yet far more entertaining.
This is my favorite Madness song EVER! Thanks! I've enjoyed all the Madness videos you've posted!!
I always wonder how many pedestrians thought this was a real situation and how many knew it was a Madness clip lol!
"To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering."Friedrich Nietzsche.
Listen to what they say, it's not a game they play!
As someone who's had two heart "events" through overdoing it,in the summers of 2012 and 2015,I can vouch for the song's top cautionary advice. Good thing I had someone with me when I got those chest pains, and she called an ambulance immediately, both times. The first time was at about 4 in the morning, and I can't thank her or our wonderful NHS enough. I thought I'd be out of hospital later that day but I was there for 2 weeks amid an agreeable group of dudes on my ward, having an echo test and then an angiogram over at the Radcliffe in Oxford who put me up for the night in an upstairs corner-of-building room with a cracking view, that wouldn't have been out of place in a three star hotel. The doctors told me to take complete rest, which I did for several weeks, lying in a hammock away from it all in the back garden of my parents' house, watching the starlings frolic and taking in almost the entire London Olympics before I risked becoming rapidly re-frazzled by dipping my toe back into the Dodge City of work again.
Love the way the saxophonist plays it loud in Mike Barson's ears as he's on the xylophone, Mike soaks it up, then the sax player Lee Thompson almost falls out of the bus. Hilarious!
Ace, The guy dancing on the rear platform with the xylophone playing is just epic! 😂
When I was at school I thought this was called Cant He Have A Rest
Madness - one of many reasons I wish I'd grown up in the UK and not the US.
tunes like this made Madness great
Such a brilliant song and excellent video. Goes to show you don't need to spend 250k on music videos. All of their videos were good and probably cost nothing.
You only have to watch the vid to 'Night boat to Cairo' to see that :-)
My dad has got me into madness since I was 8 and I am 12 now and each and every day I play this song off of my iPad and my dad sings along to it and he says to me dan this is real music and nothing elce is real. It is good because they all play thier own instruments and they are the only sucsessfull band.
22 now, do you still like Madness?
I don't think Madness ever made a bad song or video, they've all been class.
Loved Madness then, just a tender 14 year old Rude Girl, now I'm a Old Girl but still Rude at 💖 God Bless the Nutty Boys and The Lord Suggsey McPherson 😎💋
54 years old now great times
this is one of the best from madness have it
Used to get the route master to school, jump on and off at lights or even jump on when you missed it.!!!!!
They should play this song on public transport 👍🤪🇬🇧
