Tada San never said taking out the fake vents in the front was easy, not only that he never suggested any vent on the rear could be converted. In the interviews he suggests that it is up to the aftermarket to create something if they wanted it to function. Do you really think you know more then the chief engineer?, The factory car does not require all the vents to function, removing them on a factory car will decrease performance. Those fake vents are clearly there for styling reasons, he just made it possible for consumers to remove them if they wanted and that should be praised. From watching this video there has been no false claims made by Tada San, he made it perfectly clear the car is balanced from factory, it is up to the aftermarket to customize for their preference and hence those vents are fake because the car functions perfectly without it. The only argument here is if it was a good styling decision to put fake vents on a car, but if it is done to help the aftermarket then do we not want that in the car industry? You need to watch the interview with Tada San again, its clear from this video that you have no clue what Tada San's goal with the car is. The consumer should be happy Tada San thought about the consumer in regards to modifying, he knows it will reduce performance but he did so anyway. E.g the chassis reinforcement he removed in the engine bay that is present on the z4. The car was too stiff hence they were removed but he gave the option to still put them on if the consumer wanted them.
It's a shame how everyone is talking smack about Tada San, people are putting words in his mouths and reading journalists who do not correctly cover what he said in detail and this is how rumors spread.
This video wasn’t directed at Tada San. I have nothing but respect for him. I’m pointing this one at all the blind social media fan boys who think kept asking “hey when are you gonna open those vents”
Those front corner vents could and should be functional to reduce drag around the front wheels. That type of vent is called an "air curtain", and many manufactures have them even on their mainstream models. In fact, take a look at the new electric Porsche Taycan Turbo, it has an identically designed vent, that is actually functional in that manner.
Yes they do and they are able to pull the air through the hollow hood to the vents allowing engine heat out into the negative pressure zone above and behind the wheel well. This guy knows better I trust him 😂
Actually the officially report of Toyota's head mecahanic explains that those vents need modification to make them real like cutting and staff but they made it like that so if it becomes a race car the chassis will already have the spots for venting so if u wanna make it a race car the car has already spots for vent because due to nomination u cant modify the chassis. Or smth like that. Here is the interview: ua-cam.com/video/0PKbpN9DtSc/v-deo.html
I agree. Doing so would be a "butcher job" that is totally not worth it. Also, front openings, if not designed correctly, could create lift that would not be beneficial at high speeds. I'm leaving the fake vents in my 2024 45th alone.
Why did they even put those fake vents there in the first place? They add nothing to the car, they don’t even look good. Was this Toyota’s contribution to the project? Like BMW told Toyota engineers that if they were on their best behavior they could add some ugly black plastic to break up the natural lines of the design?
TRD makes a cover piece for the fake vent so that’s an option (probably stupid expensive). The one on the hood *shouldnt* create any notable extra drag, but I’m no aerodynamicist. We are planning on replacing the clamshell with something lighter and with built-in, functioning vents
So, you’re not doing anything about the fake vents? Jk, the door vent seems like it would produce drag, thoughts on that? Doesn’t seem like it routes anywhere
It could be done but at much to high a cost that's why aftermarket companies will be better suited to tackle this problem by cutting the cost after mass producing the parts. I look forward to seeing them.
@@85corolla Yeah I'm sure the designer intended on them being functional but engineers usually scrap ideas to keep the cost down. That's where aftermarket comes in (usually).
@@realtalk4689 After watching the areas below the fake vents, especially the doors and the front, I can't wait to see how the aftermarket produce a kit that will make you cut up the thick metal behind the vents.
Instead of making fake vents real, someone should make replacement plastic that just seal them, make a flat surface where you just wrap over, or paint to match the car, make some of them just disappear... :D Like the Audi R8 and its stupid side panel, especially the older generation, it looks so terrible... the new one is much better looking, I like that, but still... hate the side panel... :D Will never understand why they do these fake vents, its so stupid. KIA Stinger has lots of them too, and many others... Some fake vents on side like many fancy cars have had for decades, fine... but thats about it. Cant wait for me action Jackie! :D
Your Supra videos are so useful and informative, thank you! Suggestion for future video: Will 4 trackday wheels fit in the trunk (like the 86)? Maybe too late to ask, now that you’ve gutted your rear section 🤣
Understanding aerodynamics on a car can be tricky; it's all sorcery. I'm sure somebody will perform wool tuft testing and perform flow analysis to prove if turning the fake vents into real ones do work.
I recommend RaceLouvers.com hood vents as they are actually wind tunnel tested and developed. The trackspec ones without a gurney flap preceding the vents don’t do much. I run the racelouvers on my bmw, proven downforce and heat extraction and a great price. Made in USA. Thanks for the vid my man!!
The one that you thought was for a brake duck can ducked to push through the top vent. Not claiming its easy. I got no experience. Let me know what you think.
The hood vent and bumper vents are pointless and just for looks is the rear vents. Toyota just pumped vents into the car for looks...like they did with the Lexus ISF. Quad exhaust but only 2 functional.
There is not much point to open any of the except maybe the back ones but even still not much point. Toyota designed the car greatly and it performs wonderfully. The car is a work of art in my opinion and the vents are mostly stylistic and some like the door and the hood ones play into the body lines. I personally love the car and wouldn’t change anything except maybe a tune, the version 1 pandem kit, lowered a bit, and some rims
well tada san didn't say buy the car and take the vents out he said they are there so that if the tuners tune it to a crazy HP, and need extra cooling they can then cut the panels of to make the vents functional... secondly where you think the Radar is, is the only readily available functional vent.... watch European auto group's video series
Apoorv Bajpai you didnt even watch the video did you? Or you watched it and understood 0% of it. Theres no point, reason, sense to make the fake vents functional. They are 100% completely useless. You cannot make them functional.
Factory Toyota rice. I always knew they liked rice since I saw the Tacoma trucks with fake vents from decades ago. It used to make me cringe as a kid. I'm in my 30s now.
A lot of these fake vents just create drag and could've been built to be aerodynamically pleasing without vents, like the door vent, just remove that texture and it creates downforce without unnecessary drag.
Great video! Love the way you presented it! When you talked about venting the front wheel well it reminds me of what they did on the NASCAR versions of the 1969 Daytona Chargers/1970 Plymouth Superbirds as the race versions had actual openings under the front fender scoops. There's probably ugly holes and shapes hidden under the vents that look worse than the plastic on it.
Lol stop believing tada San, there is no such thing as a too stiff chassis
Those front corner vents could and should be functional to reduce drag around the front wheels. That type of vent is called an "air curtain", and many manufactures have them even on their mainstream models. In fact, take a look at the new electric Porsche Taycan Turbo, it has an identically designed vent, that is actually functional in that manner.
Hey jackie why dont you remove the vents on your supra?
The way you present raises my blood pressure…chill …..
0:45 Are the holes connected to the vent though? Or is it closed?
Yes they do and they are able to pull the air through the hollow hood to the vents allowing engine heat out into the negative pressure zone above and behind the wheel well. This guy knows better I trust him 😂
Could easily use some tubing and tube the hot air out of the engine through the fender vents.
But it's still getting restricted because of the small opening on the clam shell vent.
So the fake vents are even more pointless than Toyota said.
Here is the interview:
ua-cam.com/video/0PKbpN9DtSc/v-deo.html
Yet the supra racecars don't have their vents there
I agree. Doing so would be a "butcher job" that is totally not worth it. Also, front openings, if not designed correctly, could create lift that would not be beneficial at high speeds. I'm leaving the fake vents in my 2024 45th alone.
Well...the holes in the hood will connect to the vents when theyre open and it'll cycle actually a lot more air
Why did they even put those fake vents there in the first place? They add nothing to the car, they don’t even look good. Was this Toyota’s contribution to the project? Like BMW told Toyota engineers that if they were on their best behavior they could add some ugly black plastic to break up the natural lines of the design?
i pulled up behind the car on my way home...beautiful car!...just wonder why he was in K-W Ontario?
You’ll find out the reason soon enough :)
thanks for the explanation, would it be wort it if you replaced the doors and hood with something without fake vents in order to reduce drag ?
TRD makes a cover piece for the fake vent so that’s an option (probably stupid expensive). The one on the hood *shouldnt* create any notable extra drag, but I’m no aerodynamicist. We are planning on replacing the clamshell with something lighter and with built-in, functioning vents
@@JackieDing86 thanks for the quick answer, I'm really excited to see what's next coming for that car
So, you’re not doing anything about the fake vents?
Jk, the door vent seems like it would produce drag, thoughts on that? Doesn’t seem like it routes anywhere
We’ll see about covering it up. TRD Japan piece is expensive and I doubt the drag difference will be noticable
It could be done but at much to high a cost that's why aftermarket companies will be better suited to tackle this problem by cutting the cost after mass producing the parts. I look forward to seeing them.
This can be said to any car that are on the streets. But don't pitch these misleading fake vents for the sake of sale numbers.
@@85corolla not a pitch, only wishful thinking.
@@realtalk4689 Either way, they are all less than a half ass vent designs
@@85corolla Yeah I'm sure the designer intended on them being functional but engineers usually scrap ideas to keep the cost down. That's where aftermarket comes in (usually).
@@realtalk4689 After watching the areas below the fake vents, especially the doors and the front, I can't wait to see how the aftermarket produce a kit that will make you cut up the thick metal behind the vents.
Then why didn't they just make it smooth??!?!! It looks worse and causes more drag for what reason???
GT 500 homologation probably
@@Wabeeninc GT500 cars have ZERO in common with their road cars counterparts.
@ash G. Looks are always subjective but I can guarantee you if those "vents" caused extra drag (to any significant levels) they wouldn't be there.
I though get if you take the vents out it turns into a manual?
Instead of making fake vents real, someone should make replacement plastic that just seal them, make a flat surface where you just wrap over, or paint to match the car, make some of them just disappear... :D
Like the Audi R8 and its stupid side panel, especially the older generation, it looks so terrible... the new one is much better looking, I like that, but still... hate the side panel... :D
Will never understand why they do these fake vents, its so stupid. KIA Stinger has lots of them too, and many others...
Some fake vents on side like many fancy cars have had for decades, fine... but thats about it.
Cant wait for me action Jackie! :D
Haha. Ive argured this with so many people. I told them them "vents" were pointless and purely cosmetic without substantial modification. I win.
i think toyota is lying about the vents.
Why not take it up with Toyota then?
Like to see the GT4 spec, I'm pretty sure GT4 class uses more functional vents for certain track.
Your Supra videos are so useful and informative, thank you!
Suggestion for future video: Will 4 trackday wheels fit in the trunk (like the 86)? Maybe too late to ask, now that you’ve gutted your rear section 🤣
Simple answer: NO. The trunk is pathetically small. It won’t even fit a single tire.
@@JackieDing86 Haha! No wonder I haven't been able to find a video showing the ability to store wheel in the trunk! Thanks for the info!!
Understanding aerodynamics on a car can be tricky; it's all sorcery. I'm sure somebody will perform wool tuft testing and perform flow analysis to prove if turning the fake vents into real ones do work.
Tell em Jackie. The new myth buster. 😃
If there's no aftermarket hood you can buy without the fake vents, there should be. Then people would stop asking you about them.
OR make aftermarket hood that people can buy WITH Real vents ;)
The one that you thought was for a brake duck can ducked to push through the top vent. Not claiming its easy. I got no experience. Let me know what you think.
No, it can't.
Hello Jackie! Nice video again!
I want to ask you..." What do you think about 2020 GR Supra GT4 ? "
Looks awesome, probably will go awesome, would love to race one
This guy reminds me of Thao from Gran Torino😂hey Toad!
Finally seen the new Supra at the Auto show today. The fake vent on the doors is cheesey AF.
Do you have a wind buffer for your mic?
Soooo. When are you removing the vents?
Jackie did u just come from FOB or FOA (fresh of boat or plane)?
No, FOV = fresh of vents
I knew it!! It’s just rice from the factory but they won’t admit it!
Everything is rice from the factory now, thanks to the increasing number of ricers on the streets, lol.
Why do car manufacturers even make fake vents when they can just do a real vent
I have cut 5 hoods this past two weeks. I am addicted to cutting vents.
This is why Toyota should have never created these plastic molds with the honeycomb vent style.
The hood vent and bumper vents are pointless and just for looks is the rear vents. Toyota just pumped vents into the car for looks...like they did with the Lexus ISF. Quad exhaust but only 2 functional.
I had a Toyota salesperson said the Supra did not have fake air vents.
Sooo... Is that a no on the vents or...
Clip at 2:20 made me spit out my water. Lol. Love the racer's perspective on the Supra!!
i had to rewind that part myself lol
You answered my questions! Thanks for the video bro!!!
well tada san didn't say buy the car and take the vents out he said they are there so that if the tuners tune it to a crazy HP, and need extra cooling they can then cut the panels of to make the vents functional...
secondly where you think the Radar is, is the only readily available functional vent.... watch European auto group's video series
Apoorv Bajpai you didnt even watch the video did you? Or you watched it and understood 0% of it. Theres no point, reason, sense to make the fake vents functional. They are 100% completely useless. You cannot make them functional.
@@dunmadun351 I'm betting on that he understood 0% of it, lol
That phone your recording on could use some air vents
カバーの樹脂パーツを取り外すと、レース用のクーリングダクトになるっていうトヨタの説明は嘘だったのか。。。
Factory Toyota rice. I always knew they liked rice since I saw the Tacoma trucks with fake vents from decades ago. It used to make me cringe as a kid. I'm in my 30s now.
Painting the vents could give a slick look
So basically just replace the bodywork with ones that delete the fake vents and make them solid
Thank you so much! This really explained things to us, especially us without the Gr supra
Well they did good with my GR Yaris. But I guess it's all Toyota
Just make real vents happen! ------ Jackie Ding 2019
A lot of these fake vents just create drag and could've been built to be aerodynamically pleasing without vents, like the door vent, just remove that texture and it creates downforce without unnecessary drag.
1. How do you know it creates drag?
2. How do you know it creates downforce?
3. Downforce creates drag.
JACKIE. WHY U NO CUT FAKE VENT?
Great video! Love the way you presented it! When you talked about venting the front wheel well it reminds me of what they did on the NASCAR versions of the 1969 Daytona Chargers/1970 Plymouth Superbirds as the race versions had actual openings under the front fender scoops.
Actually, I found this video because I was looking for a car that has more fake vents than my Civic Type R! Hahaha! At least some of my vents/scoop are functional!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Yes Great Video!! Thanks for venting out that.
