Slime VR is great. The fact that it is open source makes for some amazing VR stuffs. My favorite so far is being able to use old android phones as trackers. Only downside is you need at least 5 old android phones. I had a bunch of Galaxy s4's and s5's and it worked pretty well considering. I still Primarily use my Xbox One Kinect but it's nice that you don't need DIY or solder skills to mess with Slime VR.
The Xbox Connect was really ahead of its time and its sad that there is no real development in similar external depth-sensor tracking. I think if something like Slime VRs could be combined with external depth sensors or IR led tracking like the old wii remotes then that will make them truly a Vive alternative - the IR/depth tracking can be an optional add-on to help prevent drift when using them but then occlusion still won't be a problem because the Slimes will still be able to operate just fine when external tracking is lost to occlusion.
@bebelynx there is a project that is combining cheap Playstation Move cameras with Slimes for 2 way tracking, and the results look amazing. Once I get my hernia surgery, I'm gonna get back into VR and grab me a couple of the cameras to go with my cheap DIY slimes.
@@bebelynx It's sad they nerfed the hell out of the Kinect that thing could've been soooooo much more and instead of being a horrible accessory that hardly any games used but the DIY community loved the Kinect easily could've been the best tracking solution ever made even now especially if we would've actually got the upgrade that they planned for the Xbox One.

Wanted to say thank you for your content. I have learned a fair bit thanks to you. Your explanations are very comprehensible for Gen X'ers like myself.
SlimeVR works quite well with just phones velcroed to my body. This tracker set should be incredible. Rooting for SlimeVR to hit their goals and get these super available.
The good of Vive Trackers is that as long as you have a SteamVR headset with base stations is that it just works with hardly any setup. SlimeVR can be a bit more of a pain with frequent calibration, posing and getting them in the correct location. My girlfriend is happy-ish with the set that I built by designing my own 3D Printed cases + learning soldering. It is just the frequent calibration when it is working that makes it a bit of a pain. Still a lot of fun and you can cover SlimeVR Trackers with clothing unlike HTC Vive Trackers which need constant view from base stations.
After building them and trying to get them working myself, it makes me want to just save up for vive trackers. Or really, I want to get the camera-based ones that HTC teased a while ago.
I've been waiting excitedly to get my set of the SlimeVR Trackers. I pre-ordered the full body set (7+3) Just alittle over 2 years ago. Nov 5th 2021, the shipping date keeps getting bumped back month by month. But I'm not mad about it watching their live streams of the production of the trackers. Here's to hoping they can complete my shipping order before the end of the year!
I... wish you the best. 2 years and anticipation probably built up a ton of expectations for you. My DIY ones were really frustrating to deal with, and they've been sitting on a shelf for the past 9 months.
I'm getting the parts together to do my own DIY's. I feel that allowing people to make DIY units and make changes to the design, use different parts and, as of this point in time, providing certain parts via their online store (they have their own version of the excellent BNO085 IMUs at a fraction of the price of ones made from companies like Adafruit) and even allowing people to sell their own variants is what keeps SlimeVR alive despite the delays and the communication from Eiran on the progress of the official units and real photos of stock/progress is what encourages people to wait through the delays. Honestly I have my IMUs arriving today and will be ordering other parts soon and I can't wait to make my own tailor-made design specific for my body (I'm keeping the IMUs separate from the microcontrollers to improve placement accuracy and so I can make them easy to replace/swap better IMUs when they become available/supported). There is so much potential and with enough support, they can only get better
I hope it goes well. After 60 hours of assembly and a dozen or more of trying to calibrate, they've been sitting on a shelf for 9 months. They were too frustrating to deal with.
Fun fact about SlimeVR software, if you dont want to buy the trackers but you have some Switch Joycons around, you can connect them and use them as trackers :)
built mine 5+3 (6050)with absolute budget goal in mind during early 2022, i was shocked during first time wearing them, the UI was still the beta UI, but it was working good enough for normal tasks, it costed me total 70$ all raw materials, in clude straps and buckles, a lot it came from house hold supply, be creative and be careful(battery), it has been one of my best DIY journey ever. now I acquired BNO085 from the official store, upgraded my chest and waist, it is already so freaking good. A prime example of what a good community can archive, I am so happy to be one of them.
I ordered mine back in March of this year (misunderstanding and not knowing how big the work load was and thinking I'd have them by now, lol). It's been nail biting watching the issues of the last few months seem to mount, but the team never gave in and kept going. It's so uplifting to see and hear how close things are to being full on and SlimeVR standing shoulder to shoulder with Vive trackers!
Shoulder to shoulder... yeah, this is what I was worried about. Tracking quality and cost are only two of many other variables. The frustrating thing I am worried about is people over-hyping SlimeVR. They're pretty good, but it ignores all the work that needs to go into developing them and learning how to use them. It took my friend an entire year before he got to a good spot with his SlimeVR trackers, and even then, they are no where near the quality or user expeirence of Vive trackers. They are completely different.
great to see slime being better! all the love Eiren and the team, there doing something great. would be a fun project to make some, having something like this thats open source is awesome, especially for repairability aswell
I ordered mine a while back, so happy you made a new video about it, from what I can see, it doesn't look like I wasted my money, just been waiting for so long been considering just buying vives and just using those until the slimes arrive
Sure did! I've used Vives for elbows before in recording, but I've always just ended up not bothering from the hassle. You can also use Slimes in conjunction with Vives/Tundras, which is more comfortable, so I will likely start using Slime elbows for all my vids :)
I didn't know there was a calibration meetup!! I've just been fiddling with values till its decently accurate, but idk exactly what they all do. Particularly with 8 point (5+3) rotating my foot makes my knee move a little bit when its not irl. There's foot size and offset, but idk where its actually moving the pivots relative to the bone in 3d space. With that said, well calibrated imu trackers are definitely the way to go. My diy trackers stayed calibrated for a few hours accurately with only the quick reset. Slime FTW 💙
Id say the reason they aren't being talked about is the time to deliver. I ordered back in early July 2023, and am still waiting. On top of that, there are people who have ordered WAY back in 2021 and are STILL waiting as well. Love what slime is doing but they were not prepared to deliver at all. The majority of people who bought them just do not even have them yet. I honestly wouldnt be surprised if there's just as many people who received their slimes as there are people who built their own.
After seeing thrill's new video on Slime, I decided that I was going to make some myself, and for only $60 I was able to order all the parts for 5 trackers and 3 extensions! I'm so grateful for the people who worked so hard on this project, I don't have a lot of money so $390 is a bit much for a QOL feature, but Slime made it possible for me.
ill say this you are one of the people who i find so inspiring and you have helped me find out who i am as a person in whole, i hope others find your channel to be just as helpful as much as it have helped me
I had no idea about Slime VR and it's open hardware nature; that's awesome! I love Crowd Supply and was surprised to hear it mentioned in a UA-cam video for the first time, especially wasn't expecting it from this channel.
The absolute best part of diy slimes for me has been the fact that I can build each tracker for roughly about $5-10 dollars a piece and still get decent results! And it's given me a new excuse to get back to messing with my 3d printer again. The electronics themselves are very cheap, unless you go with the top of the line IMUs in the official units. And even with the top of the line IMUs, still much cheaper than any other tracking solution on the market. And the community is amazing, I've learned so much about how to solder and about electronics from their discord!
I did the DIY route and purchased the parts myself. the open source community is incredible. with people uploading custom PCBs with matching cases. making your home built set look completely pro.
Vive/Tundra trackers actually use IMU technology as well. The lighthouses are there to correct the errors naturally generated in the IMU tracking process. At regular intervals, the lighthouse will send correction coordinates to the tracker, which (when combined with the IMU data) gives the tracker its location.
I bit the bullet and bought a set of slime trackers in August. They're slated to arrive at the end of January. Hopefully it goes well (fingers crossed). I am very optimistic about this, because it seems like Slime is only getting better with time.
Great video :D. I was lucky enough to get my official set this August, and they work really great for a non-lighthouse tracked FBT. As a Pico user, it brings my immersion to another level. I got vertigo again while looking at my feet moving correctly at the edge of a cliff. It's been a while, haha.
It's so crazy how far VR has come since I was a kid, when I was growing up I saw movies like The Matrix and always said that games will be like that some day where we are fully immersed in them and control them with our real bodies, we obviously had things like EyeToy for the PS2 and dance mat attachments for the PS2 as well as a fighting game attachment that worked a bit like a dance mat, now we have community made FBT and eye tracking, haptic suits and omnidirectional treadmills that allow us to be fully immersed in any game we play, all we need now is a game like Second Life or Entropia Universe that allows us to explore a whole connected world or multiple connected worlds with space travel between them where we have the option to make real money
Really enjoyed the Slime VR video! In reference to the issue with devices dropping: this often happens when a router is handling too many connections. With a full Slime VR setup plus other devices, it's a common challenge. Upgrading to a more robust router, possibly with Wi-Fi 6, can make a big difference in managing multiple devices. Alternatively, setting up a second router could help distribute the load. Keep up the fantastic work with your VR content!
Can't wait to build my own slime trackers. All the stuff for me to start building it should be here by the end of the month! Amazing video! That's really good to know that there is people out there willing to help me If I get stuck
All I can say: set your expectations as low as possible. I spent 60 hours building them and 10+ trying to calibrate/configure them. They've been sitting on a shelf collecting dust for the past 9 months.
I love the fact that they are open source because if you know what you are doing (not to brag but I do) you can not only make them yourself for cheaper, but also better. I made my set of 6 using their highest rated imus for about $150 all up, and made them smaller at only 30x35x14mm with plenty of improvements left on the table.
I adore how the community builds their virtual selves. It almost feels like a rite of passage to create them on your own. The magic of the virtual world! ✨
omg i really whant this now thay sound so nice and that community collaboration meet up sounds like such a good idia and the one on one would help so much i want to join and get some slime trackers when i can
I love VR racing and VR driving (truck simulator on ets2). I could sit for hours just driving around. But this + body tracking is next level. I could get in to that, but yea definitely will have extra cost for the gear+ I really prefer to get my own place and put a room specifically for vr gameplay so you have all the space you can ever want.
Been waiting a year and a half for my slimes, so I appreciate all the coverage and the progress they've made, but I'm nervous that my estimated shipping date can change again and maybe I won't actually have them till next year? Gaah, excited, tired of waiting, excited, waiting more, excited... someday will be awesome.
@@DarkSwordsmanThanks:) After 2 years using Cosmos I'm well experienced in making do with inferior tracking in the worst way. Recently picked up a Pico 4 and loving it so far. FBT will just be the cream on top. ❤

And the community is amazing, I've learned so much about how to solder and about electronics from their discord!
I appreciate the production quality and succinct intro. Thanks for the video!
I am very grateful for the creators of slimevr
the queen of vrchat u are amazing to detail to everything
I did the DIY route and purchased the parts myself. the open source community is incredible. with people uploading custom PCBs with matching cases. making your home built set look completely pro.
Solid, information packed video. Outstanding.
Vive/Tundra trackers actually use IMU technology as well. The lighthouses are there to correct the errors naturally generated in the IMU tracking process. At regular intervals, the lighthouse will send correction coordinates to the tracker, which (when combined with the IMU data) gives the tracker its location.
This gives me so much hope to be able to interact with my friends far better than before! Thank you for your wonderful video
The open source and allowance of users to make their own is really awesome and makes me want to support the project even more.
I bit the bullet and bought a set of slime trackers in August. They're slated to arrive at the end of January. Hopefully it goes well (fingers crossed). I am very optimistic about this, because it seems like Slime is only getting better with time.
PLease update me
I use them for dancing. They do have issues with drift that has to be calibrated often. But yeah they work and give you full body
Oh my God I was in the slimevr event. I love your content via keep it up you're amazing thanks for the picture by the way.
thanks for showcasing our community :)
i had subscribed to their emails to get updates, found out about them from you and im so happy to see they are growing more. I cant wait to get my own
i always forget you and thrill are together... literally my 2 favorite VR channels what a treat. always amazing content from the two of you!!!
I actually am a manufacturer and seller of slime VR trackers, the best part of them is they are open source so you can go make your own for under $100
Oh my god, that is one handsome kitty 😂 6:20
I HAD NO IDEA SLIME WAS OPEN SOURCE! I'm sold. That's all i need to know.
I’m DIYing them while I wait for the official trackers to come xD it’s quite fun either way though!
Great video :D. I was lucky enough to get my official set this August, and they work really great for a non-lighthouse tracked FBT.
As a Pico user, it brings my immersion to another level. I got vertigo again while looking at my feet moving correctly at the edge of a cliff. It's been a while, haha.
where to buy from?
FINALY A MAINSTERAM VR UA-camR MAKING A REVIEW ON THE FINISHED PROJECT!
Nothing against you mysticle :D
Will for sure keep an eye on this product. I love the community backing. This is great!
As someone who's been waiting for their kit, Im super excited!
Your last vid made me really want to get this kit!
TBH, they aren't advancing fast enough. They need to be better for cheaper.
Keep up the fantastic work with your VR content!
my mate blew his head off with a shotgun while using one of these, we were in a video call. the head tracker amazingly stayed on, would recommend
This looks pretty sweet. Electrical certs are always a pain, hope that gets sorted soon.
Its also very impressive how the VRChat community is really something special. Thanks Phia for keeping up the good work for VR!☮️
So happy seeing Eiren and ZRock and Fjrn in this video and everyone else in the community!!
Thank you so much for posting this update!! I have been wondering when my trackers would arrive or if it was a scam 😅 this really helped!
The creators of this project are legends.
I have been waiting so long for a modern review on slime now I can finally stop waiting and searching
Iv had someone make mine for a good year now, love them and ill never think about Vive Trackers.
TYSSSM for this! ive been wanting to buy fbt and this is so economic!
Open Source is always the way.
Awesome video Phia!
I adore how the community builds their virtual selves. It almost feels like a rite of passage to create them on your own. The magic of the virtual world! ✨
Thanks for this in depth video that provides practical tips~!
omg i really whant this now thay sound so nice and that community collaboration meet up sounds like such a good idia and the one on one would help so much i want to join and get some slime trackers when i can
Thank you so much for the update! Congratulations @Zrock35vr in making it to the virtual reality show 🤗
PHIA did an amazing job! I'm glad I got to be featured, it was really fun!
Funnily enough I literally just got out of testing mine when this video came up.
Something interesting to look forward to..😮
I love VR racing and VR driving (truck simulator on ets2).
I can't wait for everyone to finally get their sets! I wanna hear if it lived up to your hype once you get your hands on em!
Just make sure your expectations aren't high. The user experience is not going to be simple and they probably still won't track that great.
@@DarkSwordsmanThanks:) After 2 years using Cosmos I'm well experienced in making do with inferior tracking in the worst way. Recently picked up a Pico 4 and loving it so far. FBT will just be the cream on top. ❤
Aaaand now the ship date has moved out from under me YET AGAIN, literally the SEVENTH time this has happened. I tell myself every time that the new date isn't real, but it's still a big disappointment whenever I think to check back in. (I know I'm not alone, but by this time last year it was being promised in April. In April, June. In June, November. In November, December. It's not the waiting, it's being strung along like I'm chasing a slinky or something.)
@@hastingsgames Unsure how up to date you are but all are estimated to ship by may 2024
Slime creator is so wholesome. I wish them many good lucks.
It’s so nice to see Z in this video. They’re such a good person and so willing to help and talk about what is going on. I’m glad I’ve known them for awhile now plus ordering a set of my own that I’m waiting on for over a year. It will be so worth the wait to since I’ll be eventually doing a set of DIYs for the 5/lower set only. Thanks for doing a video on them.
The antlered rex at 0:46 looks a lot like an old friend that i dont really talk to much anymore. Makes me curious if its them, probably not, but that curiosity is there.
love how it gets better with every version :D
I built my own Slimes over a year ago. Still use them almost every time Im in VR. Also recently upgraded to the same IMU's SlimeVR uses in their units. I want vive trackers but for building Slimes myself for less than $100 its really worth it
the best part is. you dont even need crazy soldering skills to do these diy too. ive made like 20 for my friends and i even printed my own cases
you made me miss vrchat, yk what im gettin a quest 3 and some slimes and returning too my comfort places
It's nice to see Miss Stabby's Lighthouse demo still being used.
This looks like such an awesome product 👀
question, what r the tools that id need to creat a desired background like on 8:00 ?
The stroy of slime vr is so inspiring to me i just got a quest and already love it not my frist vr but definitely better than the psvr
