This solo by Ron Jarzombek is, in my opinion, among the greatest solos of all times. Its stunning beauty combined with by its extraordinary technical level delivers an absolute masterpiece.
Im a HUGE fan of cynic and loved the first blotted science album, yet i have never came across this band (which has members of both cynic/blotted science in it). Damn i really slept on this band haha
I've had never heard them, but my friend Chris just turned me on to them, and WOW!! IM BLOWN AWAY!! Such great Musicians 👍 Only to feel so sorry two of them are gone . R I P
With music like this, there is really so much happening, that it will take you some time to fully understand, and I believe, appreciate what is going on here. The moods, the shifts, the overall complexity takes time. Keep at it, I think you'll soon find yourself just as excited as most of us here are with this band.
THAT SOLO WAS THE MOST UNEXPECTED THING I'VE HEARD FROM A GUITAR PLAYER EVER! THAT SOLO WAS FROM RON JARZOMBECK BUT I WOULD NEVER THINK HE WOULD WANT TO BE IN A BAND LIKE THIS
Finally a band where bass is given its rightful role. I'm sick of bands who think the bassist can only play a series of the same notes over and over. Sean Malone FTFW.
Ogni volta che riascolto questo brano rimango senza fiato. Probabilmente la mia traccia preferita tra tutta la musica metal che io abbia mai ascoltato.
I remember downloading this song on audio galaxy in like 3001 or so looking for Cynic stuff and just being mesmerized by the putto solo. So emotional so beautiful.
Definitely one of, if not the best. No other solo has ever conjured the same amount of emotion within me. On. A good day (or bad) this solo can bring me to tears.
I knew this band years ago..and I still think the guitar solo of this song is the most beatifull solo I've ever heard..simply amazing, perfect and hard!!!
Oh hell yeah this is unbelievable! I completely slept on Gordian Knot even though I have known about them for a long time. Thx for the upload!! Anybody out there into Steve Tibbetts? Kinda random question but the guy is so criminally unknown/under-rated I had to ask.
I'm now hearing a vynil named "safe journey" (I think thats the name) and it somehow reminds me alot to the vibe in the song "osmosis" from liquid tension experiment. At least this album, sounds like an album made out in that genre. Obviously this album was made many years before. Good stuff.
I enjoy some of the structural narration on Emergent more so than on this album, in that it is more pronounced. However, I am by no means an avid follower of guitar technique, and spend most of my time listening to classical music for it's structural poetry rather than it's technical complexity. I do love this album though, and the musicians are definitely more technically apt on this offering, which I commend them for.
glad you're enjoying it that much; this was gaming soundtrack for 3 years, so it almost always makes me think of mmo grinding. : \ otherwise, i still love it and wish there was more. (look into petrucci and liquid tension experiment for similar impressives)
I actually agree with you, bass was originally invented as a rythm instrument, although it certainly sounds cool doing leady stuff in this song, if that was all the bass ever did in this band it would be a bit redundant to have a bass player at all.
Nice stuff.....just recently found them doing a search on Bruford who plays drums on the second disc. Is this exp post metal , RIO, avant prog..? Who knows but if you like this ck out Niacin, Triggering Myth, and Universe Zero.
dream teater are strong but they uses their tecnique to enchant the people that doesn't look the art but look only the speed of the solos and other bullshits that kill the real essence of music...gordian knot is an unbelieveble band
@intcel me too, but you gotta realize this is more musically focused so my guess is the drummer didn't want to take away from that, but rather emphasize it
Holy balls . I imagine the future will be just like it is in bill and Ted , only it will be this the world revolves around instead of the wild stallions . I think the last two minuets of this song just cleared my sinus
Well not to quibble over definitions, but what I meant was the age-old argument of technicality over spirit. From Ron's other projects I often feel that the context behind his music is experimentation or complexity on a completely aesthetic level. For example, mastering serialism is not suitable justification for writing a song that only has the purpose of displaying that mastery as far as I'm concerned.
Try Spiral Architect, Cynic, Spastic Ink (maybe), and Blotted Science. Also, if you don't mind the vocals you might wanna check out Atheist, although I'd the style is a bit different.
Rest in peace both Seans. Goddamn. Two of the greatest musicians ever, now gone.
Read Masvidal's post; I'm at loss for words right now.
Man, he was one of the musicians I most respect.
Rest in peace.
Sit tibi terra levis.

Man the solo on this song is absolutely killer.
Ron Jarzombek :)
@@redaelbouri6719 Ron and Paul are favourites of mine.
You said it.
Solo on 4:06 by Trey Gunn is also amazing, tone of the touch guitar is so dramatic and emotional
both
one of the greatest solos ever! I constantly come back to it.... and it gets me every time
The chills!
Dude. That solo is effing magical. That time change, and then bass build-up from 4:45, and then Jarzombek from then on. My Lord. Glorious.
That solo at the end kills
10 years later.. it's always FU***** BEAUTIFUL
I've been waiting so many years for a new Gordian Knot album. Sadly it will never be. RIP Sean Malone.
There would’ve been 4 by now but sadly after Sean’s apartment break in the burglars stole several flash drives of music 😔
@@n0ah_m309I wish they would resurface sometime in the future…
Aghora and Gordian Knot are my favs! I thank the heavens for this music. 💗
Just amazingly good prog rock. So glad I found this. Thank you for sharing.
goodbye Reinert and Malone. We will remember your gracious contributions to music and the planet for centuries to come. Now sleep.
Rest in peace Sean Malone... 😓
:(
There are no words that well describe how this music is.
Beautiful is a too small word
everytime somebody tells me Jarzombek has no feels = listen to this solo
All the Gordian Knot material makes me weep tears of unbridled joy!
epic solo from sir jarzombek
hell yeah, ron and the 2 seans! You couldn't ask for more talented musicians
So many favourite bands put into one, thanks Sean Malone:)
Im a HUGE fan of cynic and loved the first blotted science album, yet i have never came across this band (which has members of both cynic/blotted science in it). Damn i really slept on this band haha
Yep, Ron Jarzombek plays on 3 songs from this album, this is one of them
What a tecnique and originality!

One of the best compositions of all time
This song is incredible. Thank you Sean for creating Gordian Knot. Music is forever.
This solo and Shawn Lane's solo in Mirror are the two solos to end all solos.
it is very refreshing to see that there are still some people that know what real music is

I fell in love with it at first listen, on top of being complex it just fits the title perfectly on the surface level too so it's easy to step in.
best band ever!! I've never heard music anywhere close to this good. Gordian Knot FTW
Feel like.. flowing and dancing! Masterpiece, simply.
1:36 and 2:12 , 5:20 are pure heaven

insane masterpiece
How in the fuck have I never heard this band before? This is amazing shit.
+Matt Fletcher this is awesome
same question her dude. 'tis amazing shit indeed
Wow. First Sean Reinert Now Malone too? So sad.
so this is like a project of Sean Malone as well as an epic supergroup? that's bi-winning

Oh lord the bass lead part at 2:11 wins so much.
Holy proge, I found this band so late but luckily their music is eternal 😊
RIP Sean Malone.
Progressive Metal rocks!! Hope you upload more songs soon, this band is amazing but it's really hard to find where I live!
Ogni volta che riascolto questo brano rimango senza fiato.

Some months ago Sean Reinert and now Sean Malone. What a shitty year. RIP legends
Wow.
I have to say, this is quite amazing.
Rest in peace, Sean Malone. 😞

This could definitely have been written in 3001 (:
@@vigilante76, plot twist; this is pop music in 3001. Meaning that the prog metal in that time is too intelligent for 99.999% of humans today.
Didn't even know such a thing as "Technical Death Metal" existed. I know I enjoy listening to this, though :).
Best metal solo ever?
By far...
it's CLEAR
Definitely one of, if not the best. No other solo has ever conjured the same amount of emotion within me. On. A good day (or bad) this solo can bring me to tears.
In the top 10 for sure, across all metal genres.

I just heard "Black year", and there their sound has a vibe more to "age of empires 2" soundtrack, and that is a huge compliment xD
every part of this is just brilliant
I just randomly stumbled onto the news that Sean Malone had passed away, and this was the first thing I thought of to go listen to.
i like snare drum's color...

Animals as leaders - woven web
Sounds a bit similar
12 years ago 😅. Try plini out
Cynic, Spiral Architect, Animals as Leaders, Plini, Scale The Summit
Beautiful track. Sean Malone is the bass player on the entire album, though Myung plays with Malone on tracks 6 and 9.
Great band especially the track featuring John Myung on bass. Killer!!
