- You mentioned that you are 20 weeks pregnant, and having some weird pains. You're wondering exactly what they are. There's a few different things to think about, especially if you're pre-term and having issues with pain.
One of the possibilities is round ligament pain. Your uterus isn't just hanging out in your belly. It's attached to different parts by ligaments. One of the ligaments is called the round ligament. It's attached at about the level of the belly button on the side of the abdomen. Then attaches on the other end to the pubic bone. So, it kind of runs on a pregnant woman's belly from the sides in.
It's kind of like an elastic, you know, and if you pull it and stretch it and then tweak it, you can see how that would cause pain. So if you get out of the car quickly, if you stand up from the couch, if you get out of bed for the fifth time in the middle of the night to go pee, or if you stand up off the floor. Any abrupt movement can cause you to have some sharp pain on one side or the other in your lower abdomen, kind of running where that ligament runs on the side of your abdomen down into the pubic area.
So if you experience that and it's sharp pain on one side, it usually goes as quickly as it comes. Then it is probably round ligament pain. Sometimes it can be a little by achy. You just kinda feel like you want to rub it for a second, maybe it's duller and it lasts a little longer. That is a possibility to, with round ligament pain.
But, one of the concerns is always, "Is it a contraction?" and "Is there anything to be worried about?" My motto is always, "When in doubt, get checked out." There's really no way to tell for sure, unless you talk with your doctor or go to the hospital and see a nurse who can perform an exam and decide if there's anything going on that warrants further investigation.
Generally speaking, contractions feel like constant lower abdominal cramping, constant lower back ache if your pre-term, or it can be pain and cramping in your lower abdomen that comes and goes, a lower back ache that comes and goes. You may also experience abdominal tightening and pressure and sometimes shooting pains down your thighs. So, those are the main ways people describe contractions. If you ever feel any of those symptoms, or you have leaking of fluid, bleeding or an increase of vaginal discharge. Those are all reasons to get checked out.
Now you did mention one other thing, when you urinate you kind of feel a lot of pressure afterwards. That's normal, because the bladder sits below the uterus and when you have to go to the bathroom and it gets full it pushes the uterus up a little bit. But then when you urinate the uterus contracts back down and so you feel tightening and pressure. You have a little contraction. That's very normal, as long as it only lasts for a few seconds and it's only associated with urination and you're not having regular or intense pains during the rest of the day, then it's nothing to worry about.

I've been having these cramps in my abdomen these days and im 16 weeks. I was freaking out because this is my first pregnancy. I thought it was something else, but after watching this, I felt at ease knowing that its just round ligament pain.

I'm 16 weeks today and I've been feeling these pains since I was around 11 weeks. It's awful. Been to the hospital twice because I thought there was something wrong (1st pregnancy). Now the baby is visible growing as days go by and I have so much abdominal pain (not just lower abdomen, but around the stomach area as well) it's not even funny! I'm not having a beautiful pregnancy so far, thought it would be more glamorous like on tv but it's so far from the truth!!!! I'm definitely happy but I'm not having the time of my life so far xD
Joana and Fabio I am 20 weeks pregnant & I am having this left, right & lower abdominal pain from 13 weeks. I informed my doctor.....she said it could be due to the stretching of ligaments & growing uterus. She said unless & until there is no spotting or fluid discharge, not to worry. Doctor gave me Laxaffin if I feel constipated & Gelusil If there is gas or burning sensation. She told me to apply hot packs on sides.
And this pain never happened to my friends. I am so sad...bcoz I could not sit or sleep....the pain is 24× 7.
And now my pain is increasing as the day passes out.
Black Mamba I’m 15 weeks experiencing the same pain with you 24/7 can’t stand the sharp pain that I’m feeling, called my OB and I explained my symptoms and how bad the pain was, my OB recommended to use ice pack and take Tylenol, unfortunately she’s on vacation at the moment. I’ll have to deal this pain until i get to 20 weeks. Any idea how much is this last.
@@rahasheikh716 As I applied hot water bag on sides ( not on stomach) & also applied diclofenac gel ( given by gynaecologist) on sides & little on back....it started to subside...did this for 2 days & the pain got reduced. Now there is a slight pain in stomach but not always.
And yes! I do take 1tsp Isabgol in 3/4water as I am still taking my vomiting tablet Emeset-4mg once a day. If I don't take it I start with frequent vomiting.

One more thing make sure you don't have gas & constipation bcoz that too gives you severe stomach pain.
I've had round ligament pain a few times already. The first time I experienced it I was very nervous. I didn't know it would be such a sharp pain. But I am relieved to know that that's normal and a lot of women have it.
Thank you for the advice :) I think I had contractions yesterday - now that you have described all of that.... I thought that one of my babies, babyA had moved onto my nerve, because the pain was so intense that I was throwing up.

Mines last all day long and turns into back pain my Back hurts and I feel extreme pressure EVERYTIME before and after I pee. This is day 2 or 3 with the pain it just gets worse especially when I walk ouu ou ouu i feel it then

Started having this last month, feels like sharp side pains like as if u were running for miles....i was in the store today just to develop some pictures & couldnt bare the pain that i didnt wait around for the development to be finished so i left, went home to relax & went back again to get it

Is it possible to have RLP at 11 weeks? The pain that I have sounds identical to RLP: sharp, sudden, fleeting pain that radiates from the lower abs to the groin, but I am not even 2nd trimester yet 😱

I am in 20 weeks and I feel period like cramps that was leveling up from my previous cramps and it is constant and won't get away for a day unlike my previous cramps. It's like I am having a period again.

Has anyone experienced in their 24-28 weeks of pregnancy like this sore muscle ache in the upper left area of the stomach. When ever I get up and start moving it becomes sore and hurts and it goes away when I stop at times. Also when I lay down it helps and I’m able to sleep. But the moment I’m active it comes back. I’ve been cleaning and I have a two year old that constantly wants to be held. And I alway hold her on my left side while I clean at times. This been going on for three days, my baby is active kicking, I have no nausea, no dizziness or fever it just annoying ache almost like a discomfort feeling compare too like someone is stabbing me in one spot that I cry my eyes out type of pain which isn’t what I’m dealing with thank god. I have been experiencing acid reflex and heartburn.
How long can these pain go for. It's been 3 days for me. 😒
13 weeks tomorrow and in pain!

19 weeks tomorrow and the pain I can’t even move or sleep it hurt…first pregnancy
It hurts really bad to stand or walk and my midwife says it’s round ligament pain but it’s constant. I’ve gone to the hospital three times and they say to take a warm bath but it’s so bad I can sleep.

@@bushnad8357 ji. Alhamdulillah i am fine. I had a short cervical length problem.i gone through Progesterone harmonal treatment . MashaAllah i have a baby girl and she is now 5 months old

Hello! It's Nurse Dani. It would be best for you to bring this pain to the attention of your OB provider. They can ask you more specific questions about it, perform an exam, then decide if further investigation or treatment is necessary. Sometimes pelvic pain is a normal part of pregnancy and other times it's concerning. One of the greatest concerns is preterm labor. If you ever experience lower abdominal cramping and/or lower back ache which might either come and go or be constant, have abdominal tightening and pressure, feel like you're having 4-5 contractions an hour, which is only every 10-15 minutes and it doesn't get better after resting or drinking water, feel like you're leaking water, have any vaginal bleeding, or don't feel your baby move as much as usual, go to the hospital to get checked out. 28 weeks--Is it still round ligament pain if it isn’t down low? Mine is always like on the side but between my ribs and belly button and it feels like I’m being torn apart (usually when having sex or walking a good bit etc)

I don't think so. Round ligament pain happens when the uterus starts growing and getting heavier, that happens only later in pregnancy. So your pain is just early pregnancy pain. I too had periods like cramping till 6th week. Maybe it was cramping from implantation, unless you don't have any type of bleeding or abnormal discharge all is fine. Rest as much as you can and take care 😊

My lower abdominal hurts for hours at night this is the 2nd consecutive night in a row and I am not sure what it is ik during this time the kicks , and going to the bathroom hurts and it is pressure and sometimes sharp

round ligament varicosities? I have what looks like a lump on left side groin that is achy and painful after I stand . It is bulging. I am 17 weeks pregnant and will be asking for a sonogram or ultrasound soon . My fear is that it may rupture before delivery . I had a c section with my daughter and i am also concerned i will have to have another due to this .Any recommendations?I am desperate .
