  • Assam, the largest state in the northeast, has some of the last remaining lowland rainforests of India. These astoundingly tall Hollong tree-dominated rainforests of Assam host seven species of primates. Among these, the most unique is the Western Hoolock Gibbon, the only non-human ape in India. Unfortunately, these rainforests have drastically reduced over the past century due to human actions, and whatever forests remain are fragmented or isolated. Although the Hoollongapar Wildlife sanctuary provides safety to these species, the impacts of linear infrastructure pose challenges for the species inside the sanctuary which is the greatest threat to the Hoolock in this region.. Catch more on The Western Hoolock Gibbon on ‘Wild You Were Sleeping’ docuseries brought to you by The Habitats Trust, co-produced by Trippintoe Media.

The people(maximum of them) of India always connected to nature. Always try to live in harmony with it.
Due to urbanization and lack of awareness they might be deviated. Experts like these helping them is most amazing thing.
    Love

And It's heartwrenching also to know that humans are responsible for the extinction of these beautiful creatures because of greediness.... 😢😢😢😢

    Beautiful. Thanks.
If there are some people who take interest in wild life in the area itself it can go a long way in preserving them . Like we saw a gentleman in the area here.

Not that they were closely related, but just by convergent evolution, by analogy, I think these gibbons are _quite a lot_ like the last common ancestor of chimps/bonobos and humans.

They need to establish true protected areas. IUCN rated Wilderness Areas and Nature Reserves. And simultaneously work with the plantations and other agricultural industries to maintain natural corridors between forested areas to fight fragmentation.

    Definitely a false statement.
