Most estimates I have seen put the dead at anywhere from 150,000 to 200,000 in the Russian military. Total of troops taken out of battle by death and injury are over 500,000. It does not matter how many have died as one soldier lost in battle is one too many, because war should never happen. Unfortunately, it did happen every year in the last century, somewhere on the planet.
For context, the US spent 20 years in Iraq and Afghanistan and lost 7,000.

Good question! The number of working age males in Russia is 38M. Only 72% or 30M of those men are ethnic Russian. If you conscript all working age men to fight you have a pool of Putin cold build his present army of 1.2M 14 times. That sounds pretty daunting until you consider the loss of that many working age males might destabilize the ethnic Russia population and cause it to fade away.
It would also hurt the war economy by totally reducing the workforce needed for the defense industry.
