    Can you imagine being the first one to make it to Mars?

    Looks great, just FYI the outer ring on the engines on the booster are not able to be relit during flight so it would just be the center engines that would perform boost back and "landing" I'm pretty sure they would attempt a slower touchdown with the ship if it survives reentry and not just bellyflop if possible xD.

      good work, the end - I think as well - would be different, not only a crash landing w/o relighting the raptors...

      Ship is supposed to perform a hard landing on the initial test flights

    • @RippanCSGO
      @RippanCSGO 7 місяців тому +6

      based on IFT-1's flight plan, Starship would bellyflop straight into the ocean as a hard landing, no relight of the engines etc, we can only assume the same goes for IFT-2

    Nice booster design with hot staging ring for starship ignition

    Hate to be the critic, but, whoops! @ 2:32 you have the outer twenty Raptors lighting for the boost-back burn. Those don't have any onboard CPOVs to spin them up. It's the inner engines that relight during the flight. The outer ring is only used during the initial boost.

    3:36 That moment when engines turn off and starship is just floating in the space is just so epic.

    SpaceX likes overlapping test as much as possible.
    So, they haven't *said* this, but imagine Booster acting out more of a faux-landing/catch, rather than just standing on the water.
    That is, boosting back as close as the flight plan allows - to the point one should see the launch site imo. And at some small height - 50 feet maybe - coming to a complete controlled hover. And sticking it. Just staying right there. Ten full seconds of just controlled hover.
    *Then* engines out and crash into the sea.
    There's plenty of spare payload capacity to devote to extra fuel, that's not a concern. Yes, they might put this off to IFT3. Shrugs.

    Other than a few minor details already pointed out, this is pretty cool! Far better than anything I can do so I'm impressed! I hope they do the simulated "catch" for both vehicles before splash down.

    Why don't the grid fins turn vertical when taking off? This would seem to be more aerodynamic to me. Horizontal for landing, I understand. Just curious.

    • @clarence3654
      @clarence3654  7 місяців тому +1

      Superheavy Grid fins dont turn vertical due to complexity and made it simple.

    I don’t think the starship will belly flop…. It wouldn’t survive that… controlled splashdown 😢

    • @danielduncan6806
      @danielduncan6806 6 місяців тому

      Don't worry, it won't be landing at all. The next one will also explode. Maybe the next two? Three? I don't know if Space-X will make it that far, really, or if Space-X will survive even this one(second one). I am pretty sure this is the nail in the coffin of Space-X.
