    You're awesome. I just watched all your lathe vids and I'm extremely impressed.
    PLEASE be more careful w/ your back. I've suffered 18 years of back problems because I lifted one of those old fat tire minibikes the same way you lifted that engine. POP, ruptured a disc. Next week I'm having vertebrae fused with rods and screws, my second back surgery. Been on disability since December after 18 years of painfully suffering thru work and finally couldn't do it anymore. I'm 37.
    I was 19 and playing college baseball at the time I ruptured that disc, I could run 4 miles a day no problem and bench 325 8 times, so being in shape doesn't cut it...you gotta think before you lift. A blown disc will ruin your future with machining and riding off road stuff....Don't end up like me, you're too talented.

  • @georgeblack589
    @georgeblack589 5 років тому +13

    You must lift with your knees! I've thrown out my back a few times because of improper lifting procedures and I'm only 31. It's absolutely debilitating. The way my doctor described the mechanics to me is like so -- when you bend over to pick something up, your lower back becomes the base of a long lever, and the weight supported there can be as much as 10 times what you're lifting. lifting a 100 pound engine? That's 1000lbs your lower back is trying to support.
    Great video, I'm new to the channel and loving it, but your lifting techniques will hurt you if you're not careful.

    That Honda engine would be an awesome swap in the future but they are a really high revving engine and aren't tuned for torque if you could find an old 400xr or 400ex Honda they would be ideal for this kind of project they make less HP than that 600 but they still make plenty enough torque and HP and they make it in a rpm range that is much better for the speeds you will be using this at most of the time, plus their air cooled so no radiator like with the 600. Other similar fairly cheap options would be a 350 warrior or raptor, Suzuki Drz 400,or even a 300ex although their down on power compared to the others still a lot stronger and smoother than that 420 and they have 5 forward gears and reverse. I think this is a cool project man good job.

  • @kwatt-engineer796
    @kwatt-engineer796 3 роки тому

    Beautiful fabrication. You could have reduced the complexity of the front suspension by welding a vertical tube to the pivot for the spindle support. Then you could have used a tube between the top and bottom pivots and welded the spindle directly to that, similar to what you did to your "A" arm pivot on the frame. This would have avoided the turning restriction caused by the channel iron contacting the steering arm. I am currently building the "A" arm suspension for an off road cart& was noodling over this same issue. The I had an Aha ! moment and this solution presented itself. When you do your triangulation of frame members it is better to terminate your tubes at the corner of another triangle. Connecting at mid span induces a bending moment that can compromise the structure. Think in terms of, it is best for your members to be in pure tension or compression for maximum strength . there will be exceptions, but this is a good rule of thumb to follow. Again, I am impressed with your design and fabrication skills.

    Can you make one of these transmissions for a 212 and I'll buy it off you? Also with all the needed connections and whatnot. Also, you technically already have a 2-speed with the TAV, which is actually a CVT transmission.

    so when you buy these motors, do they come with all the accessories cables, chain, throttle, spark plug, etc?

    I detest when people start a video with please subscribe and like for 5 minutes into a video.
    You dont even know if you like it yet.
    Video was great and not over technical.

    Put Zerk fittings on some of that stuff. It'll last longer and only cost 5c.

    I wish I had a rich dad with a stock pile of steel and fabrication tools to play with. Some guys have all the luck. Lol

      Unknown Infamous or a dad at all, access to a welder, and someone to teach you to use it, and how to use all the other tools, and how to measure, and how to use all that stuff... man having a dad would have been nice....

      Prodriver33 Very true indeed. It's one thing to be blessed with the stock pile. It's another to have a kool dad to share and teach you the tricks of the trade. As a single parent, I wish the latter be truer in society today. 👍Thumbs up and shout out to all the solid dad's out there...🔧😉

      Anton Chigurh I'm sure understanding the difference between a joke and a complaint is more valuable. Guidance is nothing to be ashamed of. Lol

      Ive been a mechanic all my life. My son used to play in my garage and watch me. I started explaining things, like how engines run, camshafts, valves, timing, carbuerators ect. when he was young,( around 8 yrs old). Now he has his own atv repair business, and is doing very well. I taught him to be honest and fair, which he is. He makes way more money than i ever did. He charges way more than i did. People dont mind paying for a job well done. He, like me, explains everything to his customers. People appreciate that. Of course, there are occasional assholes that dont want to pay. They live their life that way. Overall its very satisfying, fixing things properly, at a fair price, saving people money.
