I’m German but living in UK . The Community I live in started a Wastenot Wantnot Facebook group and it’s amazing! I managed to get rid of so many items that I didn’t want anymore (manly kids toys) knowing they will be used again but also managed to get so many things like clothes that I really needed and saved so much! I hope there’s going to be pages like this all over soon x

Hi Lea! What a great video! I live in Greece and a pattern I've noticed about rubbish is that when something is still useful, people tend to put them in plastic bags and leave them by the containers. That way, whoever needs it, can pick it up, without having to go through piles of rubbish. I've seen this happening with clothes/shoes especially, but often with books and utensils.
That sounds great! In Sweden it was handled similarly, often the good things were next to the containers and not in there. ☺
90% of what I own is from the side of the road ( street side ) here in Australia and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In the beginning we all lived in a world where we would hunt and gather food, firewood etc. But now we have become a wasteful society. I may find antique furniture or anything that is still in good condition and I will pick these items up. If I hear of someone who is in need of a table and chairs for example. Then I will do the items up and then pass them on. That to me, is the right thing to do...
One thing I got for free several days ago and that I love so much is a drying rack for clothes! I just moved somewhere new and didn't have any. I actually was looking to buy one second hand and just happened to find this one on the street that someone put out for trash pick up. So happy! That's one thing not going to waste, and one thing that I don't have to buy! :D
That is amazing! And sometimes it really happens that we find something right when we need it! And even though it doesn't have to be a big thing that always makes me really happy ☺

If you take clothes dumped on
the street, if they do not fit in
the clothes container, that is
just helping yourself not stealing.
We say in English that ones mans
junk / offcasts is anothers treasure.
In our street there is a lot of give
and take for all sorts of things.
Everything gets taken - so it is
a win win all round.
Recently, I was given 4 sweat shirts, 2 pairs of shoes, and a pair of table lamps. I gave away beads, fabric scraps, ribbon, a terrarium, antique buttons, and

So in my hometown they do trash pick up from in front of the house. My mother delivers news papers in a more upscale area and they throw away so many things that still have near perfect look and functions to them. She has gotten a few in home things and a giant stuffed super hero for a kid that I was watching. All of the furniture for my current home was like $400 from a yard sale in that area and they gave me WAY more that I purchased just because it would t fit in their moving truck. Sometimes "dumpster diving" has huge advantages. There was a documentary on Netflix here in the states about someone who was not going to actively purchase food for a few months and what they got from dumpster diving was all good stuff and they found they had a surplus after like 3 months.
We also do free lending libraries people put these almost dollhouse or birdhouse like mini bookshelves outside where they live and so many people use those here. We may do that when we move idk
Dumpster diving is very popular

dump brand new clothes. So dump
divers dive and collect them. Later
keeping or selling them. But it is
illegal there. Do not ask me why.

dumpster divers had someone
watching out for Police and the
Security Guards. So if this is
perhaps then these dumpster
diver videos are nonsense. But
they also showed the articles they
got being sold at car boot sales.
So if they have to watch out for
Police then this would be classed
as being an illegal action. Besides
if they are doing it near say a shop
or factory this is classed as being
a trespassers. Greetings from

That is such a waste of resources... In Germany, ut is illegal as well because it is considered "stealing" the trash still belongs to the company...... But in Switzerland, from my experience, you can do it, not quite legal but no one cares... ☺

I usually try to make a list of things ive been wanting (which is small because I have practiced the art of wanting less) and I usually ask my immediate family members for those items when my birthday or holidays roll around (: they’ve never been offended or taken back by my asking.

I saw someone else commented on this but I too would like to know how you made the socks. I crochet but a little intimidated about making a pair. We have a wonderful donation center near by where everything is free for as much as one needs or wants. Most everything is quality pieces and some brand new and even brand name. I am so grateful for this business of love where everyone who works so hard there are volunteers. I was in desperate need of clothing when I came to live with my parents. Thank you for your wonderful videos.
That donation center sounds great! Maybe I'll do a video about knitting socks, like skipping all the boring parts, and also talking about minimalism or something in between ☺

Since you don‘t mind getting presents, I wonder if you enjoy giving any?
Despite my love for books, I have now got rid of more than half of the ones I had. The kind of books you show I would probably also pass on, they aren‘t really things I‘d re-read. Some sentimental and beautiful books I like to keep and go back to frequently, but most of the ones I keep nowadays are specialist volumes I enjoy and which are either out of print or simply not available electronically or in libraries. Very popular books are always easy to get hold of free or cheaply. And some I enjoy as audiobooks while I‘m knitting, ironing, travelling etc. if they are available in that format. Currently, I‘m rereading the classic, Lorna Doone, as a free download, as I love history and old novels.
Yes, I love giving presents at least as long as I have a good idea... What I don't really like is being forced to come up with something for a person I don't know that well... But I love thinking if the perfect present for somebody I know well and I also love making things as presents ☺ I totally agree with what you say about books, it can be a big difference depending on the category or kind of book if you want to keep it or if it means something to you. I don't have books like that but ut could definitely happen in the future ☺

Ich kaufe mir meine Bücher, vorzugsweise gebraucht. Aber ich bin eben auch der Meinung, das man für ein gutes Leben eine eigene Bibliothek braucht. Meine enthält inzwischen ein paar echte Raritäten, die auch für die Zukunft bewahrt werden müssen. Außerdem mag ich es, wenn ich es nochmal zur Hand nehmen kann und etwas wieder nachlesen kann. Bei den Büchern, die wichtig für mich sind, passiert das sehr häufig. Was nciht mehr wichtig ist, das verkaufe ich oder ich verschenke es, je nachdem.
Ich bekomme sehr viele Dinge geschenkt, das mögen die Menschen einfach so tun. Dafür gebe ich auch gerne Geschenke und ich behalte mir immer die Option offen, das ich ein Geschenk auch weitergeben kann. Was ich nie tue ist, ein Geschenk in den Müll werfen. Aber ich mag vor allen Dingen gerne Geschenke, die sich auch aufbrauchen und /oder selbstgemacht sind.
Ich kann deinen Umgang mit Büchern gut verstehen! Mir sind bisher nur noch nicht wirklich Bücher über den Weg gelaufen die ich wirklich behalten möchte. Deine Haltung zu Geschenken find ich toll, genau so mache ich es auch, in den Müll wäre auch einfach schade und unnötig solange es noch jemand benutzen kann. Oh ja, ich mag aufbrauchbare Geschenke auch sehr gerne! ☺️
My partner and i exchange birthday gifts, but only if we are in need of something (sometimes wants). We stopped buying just to hope they’ll like whatever we get.
