  • In this video I'm demoing my new pedalboard build based around the Boss ES8 switcher and the Pedatrain Classic 1.
It's a more compact board than the previous Pedaltrain 3 board and that's made possible by the really quite brilliant Plethora X3 by TC Electronic.
Here are the pedals on the board:
    1. Electro Harmonix Pitchfork Plus
    2. Mooer Spark Compressor
    3. Skreddy Rover Fuzz
    4. Jam Pedals Double Dreamer
    5. Hotone Nano EQ
    6. OPFX Electric vibe
    7. Korg Pitchblack Tuner
    8. TC Electronic Plethora X3
I go through the individual pedals at this time stamp: 3:31
I go through presets at this time stamp: 19:07
All in all it's great board. Large enough to be powerful and flexible but small enough to be lightweight, compact and convenient.
I run it in a wet dry configuration into two amps and it's main function is for my originals band Kampala.
Lastly I want to shoutout to the channel pedalplatform. He specialises in TC gear and has some absolutely invaluable content if you want to get the most out of one of their plethora units. The plethora X3 made this downsize doable and it wouldn't have been possible without his amazing tutorials.

Great to see you using the Plethora X3, I bought one a few months ago and it’s fantastic. Use it a lot for function work and original music and it just does so much in a small package. For me, I love how simple it is, it takes out a lot of the option paralysis too. Great vid!

Thx for the comment Jack. Yeah it’s not without it’s glitches. Still some issues with MIDI but it’s a brilliant little tool alright.

@@TheGuitarEffect yeah definitely, I've just started to use it with MIDI with a super cheap controller from Amazon. Keep up the great videos, love your content.

I could see a plethora x3 in my future. Looks like a mega bit of kit

It really is a well thought out, space saving brilliant sounding monster. They need to work a little more on making the MIDI perfect but other than that it’s pretty much perfect

Very nice video!!! actually, I have a boss ES8 and a Plethora X3 in my pedalboard! I managed to change the board of the Plethora for each patch on the ES8 via midi, but I could not get to decide which of the three pedals turn on and off.
Can you please tell me how did you do it?
It would be very appreciated 🙏

Hey. I problem. You send midi CC messages from the es8 to the Plethora x3. If you go into the system settings on the plethora you can see the midi cc values for in and off on the three pedals. Then you send those messages from the ES8.
I will say this all works well in thoery but it was a bit hit and miss in execution. To the extent that it just wasn’t reliable and I ended up moving on the X3 unfortunately. Bizzarely the further I got into the list of presets on the ES8 the less it worked. 🤷‍♂️

@@TheGuitarEffect very sad to know... i am having kind of the same problem... i am using the ctl 1 and 2 from the patch midi settings of the es8 to send cc messages to the plethora (am i doing right?). but i can only control 2 of the three pedals at once, and there is an annoying latency in the change of status. now i know i am not the only one having issues. thanks a lot mate!!!

Yeah the latency was a thing for me too.

@@TheGuitarEffect can i ask you what are you using instead of the plethora now? Did you came back to the line 6 M5?

What happened to the matribox 2?

Hey. Thx for the comment. The Mateibox two board is my travel / Flying rig. It’s perfect for that but this is my main recording and rehearsing pedalboard.

@@TheGuitarEffect thanks for the reply, I'm on the fence of getting the matribox 2 or the harley benton dnafx git Pro and trying to get a more non paid promotion on both items and your videos have swayed me more to the sonicake

It’s an interesting one. They gave me this unit for free but didn’t pay me for the video. So as far as I know that’s non paid promotion. Just wanted to say it though to be clear. I don’t do dishonest reviews. I have a day job. I don’t need the money that badly.
This is a really great all round unit. It sounds great and has excellent functionality. The HB has a lot of features this doesn’t though. It has stereo XLR outs, a stereo FX loop, an amp control out and an extra footswitch. That’s amazing IO. But at the same time it’s €60 more expensive
