Chris, I want to thank you for the personal affirmations you include in your videos, I hope you know they are very much appreciated. I'm a Disney nerd who is having a very hard time in life right now and have been struggling for a number of years. Videos like yours are the closest I can hope to get to the parks and the moments where you look into the camera and offer messages of support are genuinely, truly helpful. Thank you.

Hello Chris... today's episode really struck a chord with me...
First, I've met you a couple of times, in the park, recently. I really enjoy your content and I learn quite a bit from it. I'm a huge Disney Geek and I really appreciate your passion.
I cannot thank you enough for talking about the Suicide Prevention Hotline. I there is someone out there who needs that help, I hope they find this message and take advantage of it. Personally, my young nephew took his own life early in 2019 and our family has never fully recovered from it. I only wish that this kind of message was put in his path before it was too late. Bless your heart for bringing this up.

May I ask why you always carve out a little time to say that you are important and don't loose hope? I just noticed how heart felt it is. Is it because someone close to you hurt themselves?
It is wonderful how you do that and honestly there have been some hard days where it was as if you were speaking directly at me. Now I wasn't going to hurt myself but it certainly did help.

Fun Fact: You can win that Bullseye on display in the Storybook Store playing the Bullseye Stallion Stampede midway game in Pixar Pier. Trick is, you've got to get at least 7 people to play. So I'll act like a carnival barker and call people over to play. So far as I know, that's the only place you can acquire that stuffed animal, and you have to win the game to get it.

    • @Ashwgun
      @Ashwgun 2 роки тому +2

Not exactly, the one you win is pure plush, that one has something in it's legs to make it stand up, but it is similar. Not to mention bullseye is a large prize, and that display is a lot smaller. This is my specialty, I have been working the games almost 10 years.

Wonderful video, Chris! Long time disney fan and trivia lover, and I only knew one of the things on this list 😮!! I knew the smoking area one because I have really bad asthma and I remember as a kid skipping over several areas that were smoking areas, and then only having to avoid that corner near Big Thunder knowing it was the last smoking spot in the park as I got older.
PS I absolutely adore the moments in your videos where you talk directly to us so positively. I love these. I always learn something new watching your videos.
Mickey Mouse baseball was cool. I can't wait to see it in 20 days!!!!!
Love the Mark Twain secret. The easiest way to tell the difference between an elk and a deer is to look for the dark shaggy collar extending from the neck to the chest of the animal. If it's there it's an elk. Both male and female elk have this collar. Male elk have wider and longer antlers than mule deer. If not it's a deer. There are several types of deer, but mule and white tail deer are most common in Utah. Cabela's has great examples go check out their Lehi store.

  • @CPtrailhead
    @CPtrailhead 2 роки тому +7

Hey Chris, that’s an Elk. The easiest tell is the coat color and pattern also the antlers grow long and towards the back. Then Mule Deer antlers grow out towards the ears and then up, while White Tail Deer grow out and much more forward 🦌.
I Really enjoy all of your videos, informative, fun, entertaining 😃. Keep bringing more content and bring on the puns 😂. Thank you Provost Par Pass Crew!!

  • @monicajones2844

I had only noticed #5. On Tom Sawyer Island, the animal that you wondered about is an elk. Elk are bigger than deer and their coloring is a little different. The light patch on the elk’s rump is also bigger than the patch on a deer and the elk’s antlers are bigger and they look different then deer antlers.

    • @nathansellers3870

    6. I...don't think I've ever noticed that station wagon. Was it added after 2015? That's the last time I've been to DCA. Definitely didn't know that one.
    5. I knew that smoking is no longer allowed inside the secure area, but didn't know about that plaque. The last sign/plaque I remember seeing was at a former smoking area in Downtown Disney (near the old ESPN zone) that warned of the dangers of smoking.
I wish the captioning had gotten "gourd juice" right. It said "gore juice" and then "gorgeous." But that was a solid joke. I groaned, but in a Jungle Cruise sort of way that means I'm having fun.
    4. I have NEVER noticed those shower heads.
That pajamas joke made me spit out my drink. Thankfully I was able to turn away from my laptop as it was starting.
    3. Gonna be honest...I've spent SOME time in DCA, but rarely go into the stores. The one time I did was to say hello to a cast member friend who I met online. He is a cool guy (I'm a former cast member at Disneyland, so I knew to not take up too much of his time, but on that same trip we did get to hang out and experience some attractions together after he got off work). So I didn;t know about that corkboard.
    2. Oof. I can't believe I never noticed that, even when I was on the Mark Twain looking at what I still refer to as Tom Sawyer Island (but with pirates). The fun thing about this is, before pirates were involved, there were times where I would pick up some overtime doing Guest Control for Fantasmic!. And some nights I got to go over to the island after the last show and "put the island back together." A lot of railings there to keep people from falling into the water get removed before the show, and we would take rafts over to the island to put them back in place for the next day. Definitely a cool experience. And even though my main job was Outdoor Vending, sometimes they would let me push the raft off from the dock (pro-tip: maintain a FIRM hold on the top railing of the raft, because you have to push pretty far and your center of gravity will be over the water, so you have to literally pull yourself back onto the boat when your back foot leaves the dock or you'll fall in, which I fortunately never did).
I haven't used Getaway Today (yet), but I definitely recommend using travel agents such as them. They take care of just about EVERYTHING for you, and most of the time they don't cost any extra (except in the case of SOME special requests). They get paid by the destination for helping to get you there. So when you see Chris mention them, he's not trying to get anyone to spend more. He's saving people some of the stress of planning a Disney trip.
And Chris, you send me into happy tears when you give your affirmations. And 988 is fairly new, so I'm glad you mentioned it (fortunately, in case some don't know about 988, the old number 1-800-273-TALK -- at least last I read -- is still active and forwards people to 988).
To lighten the mood: That's no moon.
    1. Technically, it has been changed if it has Toy Story, Tiana, Bell, and Moana. To be fair to you, you DID say that it's been added to. BUT I KNEW ABOUT THE TRAIN! So, one out of six isn't bad. Also, in that store, I bought a book called Window on Main Street authored by Van Arsdale France, who founded Disney University to train cast members (last I heard, now called Traditions -- but I do have a Disney University letterman's jacket). Highly recommended reading. It was out of print for YEARS after I bought it, but is available again. I won't mention a site here, but think of where you get books or ebooks and you'll probably fid it. It contains one of my favorite Disneyland stories:
On opening day in 1955, the 5 Freeway didn't yet exist. People drove for a long time to get to the park. And kids had to "go." So as soon as they got out of the car, they did what they had to do.
A parking lot cast member ran up to Roy Disney, and said "Roy! There are kids peeing all over the parking lot!"
And Roy Disney was beaming because he didn't know whether Disneyland was going to be a hit or a flop after all the work it took to build it. He was THRILLED to see all these people show up. So he turned to the cast member and just said "God bless them, let them pee!"
Great video, Chris. And thank you again for caring about people.

You missed one, IDK if you even know but...
You didn't mention one of the best secrets really no one knows about. Cast members do, but most people don't.
It's the one and only tunnel under Disneyland. It runs under Tomorrowland, under the old Peoplemover station, through Buzz Lightyear & right under to Pixie Hollow.
It's the old band entrance for the Tomorrowland Terrace Stage and Rocket Rods partial queue (before climbing the stairs to the loading platform).
It's how Tinker Bell gets to her meet-n-greet.

Before the video: I am willing to bet I knew NONE of these. I have only been to Disneyland twice and NEVER to California Adventure.
    • Does the baseball count as a "hidden Mickey?"
    • I don't smoke, the last smoking area wouldn't have made an impression on me.
    • I have also never been to a beach where they provide showers for foot cleaning. So I didn't know that, either.
    • That details on the bulletin board were way over my head.
    • The rack on an elk is as tall as the rest of the animal. Not so much for deer.
    • Isn't there a palm tree on Disneyland property that was there before Walt built the park?
How does a phone number help with suicide? Do they give tips for making it painless? Seems to me if someone was convinced that was the only way out, a phone call isn't going to do them much good. If someone is considering suicide, but they REWALLY don't want to do it, maybe this could help them. But otherwise, making the call is a pretty bold step, and suicides aren't know for boldness.

Reurnig to Disneyland for the first time in 16 years in November. Will definitely be going to the Storybook store. I had no idea and think it's amazing! My mom loved Bullseye, she's been gone for 16 years and whenever I see Bullseye I have to purchase or take a picture. Will be getting that picture for sure. Thank you for always telling us we are amazing and we will get through our hard times. You impact so many people with that. YOU are amazing !

That station wagon is the same one that used to be on display in the Dinoland area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. Also there was a Blue Chevrolet Corvair parked next to it at that time.

This was great! I didn't know any of these except the smoking area - mostly because I'm very sensitive to cigarette smoke, so I often avoided that walk way.

Hey Chris & Amanda! I’m an east coaster who loves Disneyland, and I’m finally getting to bring my husband along in November! We’re trivia and history nerds, so I’ve been watching all your videos so I can point out cool stuff like this to him and impress him with my Disneyland knowledge! (I’m trying to convince him I need to go multiple times every year 🤣) Hope we run into you guys in the park one day! Thanks for what you do!

I love the setting sun in the parks! I have a video I shot @ WDW with Cinderella Castle & Big Thunder. When the lights switch on. What a wonderful transition. Didn't know these secrets. I did see the train in Dinoland @ AK in Florida. Love the love & attention they give the shops. The animated window displays are my favorite too. Used many showers in Galveston, TX before a dinner in a restaurant. We have 2 board walks near us. Galveston Pleasure Pier & Kemah Boardwalk. Thanks Chris for such a fun video. Glad you had a great B-day as well!

To be honest... before this video I knew 0, zero, none, nada of the 6 secrets.
And since you asked... there are several differences between elk and deer.
The most noticeable difference between elk vs deer is their respective sizes. On average, elk grow much larger than common deer species such as white-tailed deer, red deer, roe deer, and mule deer. Elk sport thicker, more robust bodies, and stand taller at the shoulders. Males can weigh anywhere from 400 to 1,100 pounds, while females usually weigh between 375 and 650 pounds. They stand between 3 and 5 feet tall, although some especially long-legged elk can grow even taller. Meanwhile, most deer stand only 2 to 4 feet tall. In addition, deer do not weigh nearly as much as elk. Typically, male deer weigh between 100 and 300 pounds, but large bucks can reach up to 450 pounds. Standing side-by-side, it’s easy to spot this clear difference in height and weight between elk and deer.
Generally, the coats of elk grow thicker and longer than deer. In addition, elk sport a shaggy mane around their upper chest and neck, which helps to keep them warm in winter and colder climates where elk typically live. Their coats tend to look brown and grey, while their legs appear more black. Given that many deer species live in warmer climates, they usually grow shorter coats than elk. Also, most deer sport uniform coats, and do not grow manes like elk. Deer come in a range of colors from brown to red to beige. However, many deer species will change color during the winter, and their coats will appear grayer to match their surroundings.
Overall, elk prefer to live in forested, mountainous regions, although they tend to shun denser forests for more open wooded places. Throughout the seasons, they may migrate between elevations, spending more time at higher elevations during some parts of the year than others. Meanwhile, deer live in more varied habitats, including deserts, plains, grasslands, woodlands, and the tundra. Like elk, some species may migrate over the course of the seasons. In addition, their distribution is slightly different. Elk live throughout North America, Central, and East Asia, while deer live also live in Europe, South Asia, and South America.
Although they appear similar, there exist several differences in the antlers of male elk vs deer. When considering elk and deer of the same age, elk antlers are larger. Mature elk antlers can weigh up to 20 pounds each, and reach up to 4 feet long. They may also contain more branches than the antlers of a similarly-aged deer. At all ages, deer antlers measure smaller than elk antlers. In addition, the antlers of younger deer contain fewer branches compared to elk and look more like spikes. As deer mature, their antlers tend to develop more branches, which curve slightly inward toward their face.
At top speed, elk can run up to 45 miles per hour, although they can only maintain that speed for short bursts. Meanwhile, most deer species can reach a top speed between 30 and 45 miles per hour. For example, white-tailed deer reach speeds up to 35 miles per hour, while evidence exists of mule deer running up to 45 miles per hour.
Elk primarily subsist on grasses, twigs, tree bark, forbs, and shrubs. In particular, they prefer certain grasses, forbs, and tree bark when plentiful, such as bluegrass, wheatgrass, clover, geraniums, irises, aspen, choke, cherry, and oak. While deer also consume grasses, forbs, twigs, and tree bark in large quantities, they also enjoy eating other foods. For example, deer also like to eat leaves, fruits, nuts, corn, and alfalfa. In addition, they may eat lichen or fungi, especially in leaner months during the winter.
Elk, especially males, emit loud, distinctive bugling calls. These calls can vary from a sharp bark to a deep, guttural grunt. Although deer typically act quietly and make few sounds, they can still make unique vocalizations. Normally, deer sounds are more hoarse and high-pitched than those made by elk. Enthusiasts often describe deer sounds as bleats, similar to those made by a goat, or as a high-pitched squeal.
The last difference between elk vs deer concerns their tracks. Both elk and deer are hoofed ruminants, meaning they grow hooves made of hard keratin, which is the same material as human fingernails. However, the tracks of elk and deer look very different from one another. Elk tracks appear tooth-shaped, and consist of two rounded, parallel halves side-by-side. Meanwhile, deer tracks look more heart-shaped. They also appear more delicate, which is due to the deer’s lighter frame and softer footfalls.

That is an elk my friend. An Elk is much larger than a deer, or mule deer which is what we would have here out west, and elk antlers grow towards their back and arch backwards basically. As you can see here in this video. Mule deer antlers grow straight out past their ears and then curve up, typically. So a deer’s antlers are on top of its head, not arching back towards their rump, from its head like an elk. Also, a mature elk will have a pale white to yellowish body with a dark brown neck and legs. Mule deer are pretty much all grey toned with some white patches on their underside and “chest”
Another name for elk would be Wapiti. Which is a native word (not sure if the tribe) and I believe it either means white rump, or ghost of the forest. Pretty cool either way!
Also! Elk meat is the best red meat on the planet. Except for American pronghorn haha.

In New Zealand some elk were gifted by President Roosevelt in 1905 and released into the South Island. What remains of that population and which are now farmed are commonly called Wapiti here 😊
