- How to Road Trip with a Disability - it is possible. It takes a lot of planning but it is worth it. Watch the Swan family travel with a Wheelchair. Kevin has ALS and is on a ventilator to breathe. Shaina shares tips and tricks for going on a road trip with a disability.
This video truly made my day! I have a tracheostomy, and a ventilator, I am trying to get a VOCSN, but my DME whilst they have an account with VentTech they have no VOCSN there. I convinced them to open an account with VentTech finally, and now that my Trilogy has been recalled, along with many other Respironics Machines, I'm forcing the issue of the VCOSN. I've told my Dr. to write a script so that it will force my DME to order a VOCSN. I use a ventilator, oxygen concentrator, cough assist, suction machine, and a nebulizer. I cannot go on overnight outings because of all these machines and more, so getting a VOCSN, would give me more Freedom! which I REALLY NEED!
You have a lot of great gadgets.
My husband has ALS.
We try to get out and do things daily.
You are fortunate to have an assistant. That way you can feed Kevin while on the road.

My wife drove our Minivan that is wheelchair accessible.
Thanks for sharing your video. It's great to see people out there still trying to help their families even in the hardest times still enjoy life and have fun. My father has ALS and my mother is handicapped as well. I've been trying to figure out how to get a van big enough for all 3 of us for a vacation. Looking for a rental. I have a lot of respect for what you're doing. Thanks again and take care
