Making Cooking Oil At Home

  • Many years ago I had a plan to grow thousands of sunflowers and then make my own cooking oil at home. With this new oil press, I can finally do just that. I have so far tried sunflower and safflower seeds with great success. The oil is fresh, healthy, and is great for frying or flavoring food. Next I will be trying to burn this homemade oil in an oil lamp!

You should also be able to ferment your pressed shell/byproduct stuff to increase the nutrition output before feeding it to your chickens (pigs would also really enjoy it, when you get back into them). Just throw it in a bucket/jar with some water and leave it for a few days until it gets good and bubbly and then feed it out.

One of the beautiful things about making your own oil is you never have to worry about the oil going rancid because you do not have to store the oil. Only store the seeds with which to make the oil.

Thanks for sharing. I think and and every seed you grow 😊and then hemp seed comes to mind or chia seed or maybe flaxseed. Your video was very encouraging and enjoyable. 😊thx again.

    Thank you
Ive been following you’re family channel since my very first homestead
You taught me how to make vinegar back in umm 2018?
Well because of this video I went ahead and purchased my long awaited non toxic air fryer which I had been searching for because NOW I can make my own oils for flavor aroma and healthier oil for brushing on my foods in the air fryer
I purchased the Vevor upon your recommendation and I love it
So far I’ve done sunflower seeds and brown flax
    Can’t wait to try more

I absolutely appreciated this post and hope to begin the same, I was curious of the potential for making avocado oil from the large seeds, and suggestions on perhaps breaking down...besides a hammer since I would imagine in order to maintain the Vevor press that it would require certain seeds as though and large to be broken down?

I bought a hand crank last year as part of my sustainability plan, and had the same idea about sunflowers 🌻 but not impressed with my press haha … would you consider showing us peanut oil? I am testing the oil rising method right now, but it takes 3 weeks to separate chopped peanuts from the oil in a cabinet (if it works). I ordered heirloom VA & TN peanuts for seed. I’ll be trying them in feed sacks next year!

@@Ebh1234 I couldn’t remember where on the internet I made this comment, but I’ve wanted to update it, so thank you. I tried the rising method for grinding peanuts and it’s been almost a year and not a drop of oil separated. As far as my oil press, I’ve tried it twice with sunflower seeds and didn’t heat it enough. I don’t think it was the best quality. Amazon has a seed oil press that’s been featured by youtubers but it’s like $150 ish. I’ve sense learned that seed oils aren’t great for us, so I’ve switched my focus to adding more tallow in my sustainability plan. Hope this helps.
