  • We take a deep dive into some scouting analysis on the Green Bay Packers ahead of their big matchup in Santa Clara against the San Francisco 49ers. Jordan Love is coming off a fantastic game in a blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys. What do the 49ers need to do on offense to slow down this potent Packers attack? How do the 49ers move the ball and score points against a feisty Packers defense?
    We take a deep dive into all of this, diving into the coaches film to see how the 49ers stack up.

    It's interesting to watch the same play being executed by different teams. It really illustrates how a heartbeat or two difference in timing...an extra hitch , or the depth on the drag route affects everything. The more I watch this, the more I marvel at the San Francisco precision, timing and execution.

      A few weeks ago I had RedZone on and I saw a couple of teams running that same screen we ran with Deebo for the last TD against the Eagles. It worked well for all of them, 10-15 yard gains. You can see the OL and TEs setting up that lane with the blocks in similar ways, just not as well as the 49ers did it.
      All teams copy plays, it's a copycat league after all, some teach it and execute it better. The 49ers have the best coaching and players on the offense to do that.

      @imwithyou38 ok.....well, I have his 2015, 2016, and 2019 playbooks.
      I get what you're saying, I'm not 100% sure you're understanding what he's saying.
      The playbook is about 500 pages long. There's a bunch of different sections and plays are in sections. So, there will be a passing concept, like X flag Y follow
      That is telling the X and RB to run a flag concept and the TE and Z ro tun a follow concept. But, depending on formation, it can change to Z flag, X follow.
      In that sense, the plays can be "different" but they're still the same play. The reads are labeled.

      @@jonnydel ok i understand what u mean now.....u mean the avg. that is what i was suggesting. there is a playbook but its not a playbook that is norm in the nfl. you build the play book together.
      i was only talking about for the 49ers and not when he was oc because i had no idea becasue the hc might have wanted a bit more of a traditional playbook.
      i was talking about that they of course have a playbook with wordage and the segment of plays that are used together in as many ways humanly possible. there is going to be every possible puzzle piece that needs to be learned. when i think of playbook i think of exact plays you need to learn and not the way kyle does it
      actrually thinking about it matt ryan came out and said in 2015 he hated everything about the offence because he never had to learn offenses that way. he legit didnt like kyle due to how upfront he is no matter who u r. in 2016 kyle pulled him aside and asked what the problem was because matt thought he was just being a dick and not that he was trying to do it to try to progress the players. kyle told him if u have anything to say back to me or wanna add something u can......first film meeting matt ended up exploding about a lot of things and after the meeting he thought he was going to get benched or some shit but kyle called him after the day was over when matt was in the parking lot and kyle told him thats what i want to hear and you did a great job so keep up with it.......turned into mvp lol(sry i just think that a neat story about kyle.

      @imwithyou38 so, it's hard to explain without showing you. What you're describing is pretty common. I have a ton of NFL playbooks and weekly gamelan installs. There's the playbook, which is what they install in the off-season and then there's weekly gameplans, which will look like a playbook in that it's the plays as they will run them on Sunday. Usually, about 90% are straight pulled from the playbook, and then there's wrinkles with the same play, but maybe players moved into different spots.

    As a Packers fan, a few things. I think the offensive success was as much on Dallas' D/Dan Quinn as it was on Matt's offensive scheme. Matt drew up a plan to consistently take Micah Parsons out of the equation. The other part of it was to take advantage of Dallas' reliance on jumping routes and guessing to create turnovers. He ran a lot of concepts that looked like previous plays and caught them (especially Gilmore) trying to guess routes, one of which you highlighted.
    On the defensive side of the ball, I think you mentioned GB not having the players up front to take advantage of a little bit weaker offensive line. Green Bay's biggest strength on defense is actually their D line/pressure against the pass.
    Given all that, as you pointed out Green Bay struggles against the run, and the 49ers are very likely to commit to it and stick with it. Purdy's pass catchers and offensive talent in general are proven, and exceptional. Also, Shanahan knows Matt really well, so the coaching advantage also goes to the 49ers.
    I expect if it's close, it's only because GB is keeping pace offensively, and not because their defense is holding SF to few points. I give GB around 30% chance to take this one. It's certainly not in our favor.

    • @eman610
      @eman610 5 місяців тому +1

      Well, one factor noone talked about is the RAIN. Jimmy G & Purdy have had STRUGGLES in the rain. GB def had us and could've stolen this win just as much as we could've. It was a gut wrenching high blood pressure game that's for sure!

    • @jonmichels7332
      @jonmichels7332 5 місяців тому +1

      @@eman610 Absolutely. It wasn't a clean game by any means for either side. Green Bay certainly had a few chances to either put it away, or pull farther ahead, and squandered them. Oh well. Green Bay's window seems to be open for another stretch here, so there's always next year!

    What a lot of people dont see, is that Purdy sees open receivers and gets the ball out much quicker than other young QBs. As good as CJ Stroud is, he is also late on his read like Love. Its rare for QBs in general especially young ones to be able to go through reads and get rid of the ball all under 2 seconds

    • @levisnyder6585
      @levisnyder6585 5 місяців тому

      Purdy was late when he started too, but he was forced to quicken due to the insane blitzes. Credit to Kyle for dialing up answers and throwing windows. I think it really helped develop his timing and confidence.

    • @louieo3
      @louieo3 5 місяців тому

      @levisnyder6585 watch his college film. Purdy has talents that don't stand out to the normal eye. Every QB is going to make mistakes and will miss something at some point, they're human, but Purdy sees his windows early and hits them with anticipation before his receivers are even out of their breaks and turned around.

    • @leftymo
      @leftymo 5 місяців тому

      Ive noticed the same. The greats often process a little slower and compensate w arm strength, off schedule, or running. Brock processes faster than most if not all QBs in the NFL.

    • @louieo3
      @louieo3 5 місяців тому +1

      @leftymo I think the greats process faster. Look at Peyton and Brady. Neither has exceptional arm strength. But they process the field so quickly and have such a deep understanding and the ability to read defenses that they rely on ball placement instead of arm strength. If you look at most QBs with extremely strong arms they often find reads late but rely on their arm to thread needles and that often leads to interceptions or near interceptions because they end up forcing it.

    Very graceful intro, Jonny. Good to hear that level of sportsmanship. And wicked analysis.
    The Packer linebacker crew does not terrify me at all and if there is one defensive unit that Kyle can terrorize with scheme, it's linebackers. The Forty-Niner O-line isn't great, but I don't see the Packers having the personnel up front to bring consistent pressure. As Kyla schemes and Purdy carves those LBs with time to throw, they'll be motivated to firezone more and that's when Brock is in his element.
    The win here depends on defense, IMO and a healthy Armstead should go a long way to shoring up against their run game. The Pack do have A LOT of weapons and that IS a concern, but as you point out, all the Niners need to do is their jobs and they should be fine. If they can get a couple of drive stops and Green Bay falls down by two scores, the run will be done and it's all over.... And by the end we'll be munchin on some tasty melted cheese for our Saturday night snack.

The Ravens game was a toss up that swung on two lucky bounces, and the one common component you mention--Dallas--we destroyed.
      If you think the Packer D--and Defensive Coordinator--is on the same level as the Niners', you are in for a rough awakening Saturday night. I'm just hoping the Pack can make a game of it. We haven't had a real test in a month and need a good tune-up as the playoffs get more serious. That rust is really your best hope. Yes the paper might say different the last 7 games, however he missed a lot and is not "an on schedule passer". He throws off his back foot a lot. He will be under pressure with 4 rushers and we will pick him off at least twice. Poor Dallas D was the main cause of their loss!

    I don't know if it's just me, but I'm thinking it's one of those monster CMC games this time around, based on the last two time GB has had to travel to SF in the playoffs.
    Last two home games vs. GB in the playoffs:
    2019 season:
    SF wins 37-20
    Raheem Mostert: 29 rushes, 220 yds, 4 TDs
    (Pre-prime) Deebo: 2 rushes, 43 yds
    Game totals: 42 rushes, 285 yds, 4 TDs
    Bonus stat: this was the game that GB gave up 186 yards rushing BEFORE CONTACT.
    2012 season:
    SF wins 45-31
    Colin Kaepernick: 16 rushes, 181 yds, 2 TDs
    Frank Gore: 23 rushes, 119 yds, 1 TD
    Game totals: 43 rushes, 323 yds, 4 TDs
    I know those are two completely different rosters, different coordinators, and one game was over a decade ago, but I think it's just something that GB will have to prove that they can stop early. I love me a good home-run style wager, so I'm looking at a 153+ yd, 2+ TD performance from CMC as a parlay.
    2nd bonus stat: Following that dismal 2019 playoff performance, who did the Pack take as their first draft pick in 2020? Jordan Love.

Love isn't as good as Rodgers but they have improved their wr's versatility and depth, as well as te's. They had a 300lb tackle playing te and he fumbled away the chance to win or go to OT. GB had more production that day. Has Kyle evolved since then? Has Lafleur? (yes, more versatility) Do you think this score will be similar? That these two coaches know each other personally so well that it will come down to execution on both sides of the ball or do you really think Kyle was just limited more on that day from personnel?

    As a Packer fan, the 49ers have ended our season (often in NFCCG) in the worst way. I’d love nothing more than to beat them, but the reality check is that hopium can’t carry a team of youngsters indefinitely. I’m going in expecting to lose but will be absolutely stunning and beyond thrilled if we collect an upset. Beating the cowboys was satisfying, (because obnoxious fans) but we’ve generally owned them so nbd. The 49ers, otoh, seem to be the team that’s closest to owning us and I beating them with this team would rank up there with run the table for me.

    I, too, watched a ton of film to get more knowledge about this receiving corps that James Jones (is that his name?) was raving about, and I came away with a healthy respect for them and J Love. I found a Packers page and told the guy that their defense would need to play better in the middle of the field and try to stop the Niner's running game to make them one-dimensional; unlike Dallas, we're not gonna easily give up on the running game. I think their offense is good enough to consistently move the ball if their line does it's job, but I don't feel like their defense will be able to get stops if Brock plays his normal (clean) game.

  • @Billin41

    Packers play calling and scheme was top notch. It's obvious they identified plays & schemes that baited the cowboys defense, known to break assignment for a big play / turnover, to make mistakes and the cowboys paid the price all all game. This Cowboy defense was ranked 5th in total defense in the regular season and the Packers made them look like a bottom 5 defense. MLF's play calling baited their defense and showcased their worst aspects.
    On the defensive side of the ball, you can toss most of the Packers gametape from this season. MLF publicly announced he would be more involved on the defensive side after the Tampa loss and since then the defense has played better each week.
    If the Niners can stop Aaron Jones, they have a great chance to win. Easier said than done though....The Packers ran through two top 10 rushing defenses in their current winning streak, including the number 1 ranked rushing defense (Bears).

    • @jonnydel
      @jonnydel  5 місяців тому

      Well, when things from the season March what they showed in the Dallas game, you can't throw it out. Also, they gave up massive yards and a ton of points to the Panthers. I didn't show any defense from the Tampa game or before, for a reason.
      You can say it doesn't count, but the film doesn't lie

    • @Billin41
      @Billin41 5 місяців тому

      Fair point. Despite the media narrative, they're also a top10 scoring defense and top10 redzone defense during the regular season, playing their best football now. My point being, the scheme is different and it's been evolving each game. Joe Barry might be the DC in title only. @@jonnydel

    • @jonnydel
      @jonnydel  5 місяців тому +1

      @Billin41 I get what you're saying but the scheme wasn't really different from TB-CAR-NY-DAL. I didn't focus much on the CHI game, from defense, simply because there's going to be a massive difference in gameplan from Fields to Purdy. Didn't feel like it was worth my time.
      But the coverage rules didn't change. The penchant for fire-zones didn't change. The landmarks in coverage didn't change. Those are things they can't change, mid-season.

      Love is great at keeping his eyes down field while under pressure and buying time for reads to play out. 9ers are more disciplined than the Cowboys, so getting the Packers young receivers off their timing would be key to stopping them but JLove is something different. He's extremely confident in his arm and loves to take those risky throws at times for deep gains. All 5 wide receivers and 2 TEs get receptions each game. So you can't lockdown just one. Deep threat Watson (whose faster than everyone else on the field will need to be doubled) but they're all pretty clutch young dudes

And most of Dallas' blown assignments were forced by the Packers putting Dallas' defenders in constant conflict.
