On the radial, cut your sponge to match the curve of your cuticle and put one edge of the sponge right at the side of your nail. You will line it up perfectly every time.
I'm so happy you made this video because after seeing your gradient nail look that won you that OPI competition I realised you're literally the gradient queen.
The tie dye gradient is definitely my Easter look now! I love how inspiring this video is! I can’t believe I never thought about doing gradients differently from the classic horizontal!
I've always loved using nail polish, but I just did my first gradient last week - a horizontal one - and I was so amazed by how gorgeous it looked! I did a mint green into blue, and I'm looking forward to trying out more combinations!
I really love when you do videos like this so much ❤️ you make techniques like this feel so much more beginner friendly, and not quite so overwhelming and intimidating
You are crushing it with this content! 💪 Loving the uploads. I haven't had the courage to attempt a radial gradient. And I totally forgot about that variation on the vertical!
I love these holo gradients….they look stunning. I can’t wait to be able to start painting my nails again…. Hopefully in a few weeks. Not game to until my lifted nail has completely grown out 💜
My favorite gradient to do is a glitter gradient or one with sunset colors as a background for palm trees in the summer. Specific, I know lol. I've never done a diagonal one, which I have to say is a great idea. I have very small nails and they're short, so I always struggle with fitting gradients and nail art on them. I LOVE the colors you used on that diagonal gradient. Stunning!
Just the basic gradient always makes me feel super fancy, even though it's way less work than stamping or nail vinyls or whatever. I'm trying the radial next. Thanks for the good ideas and tips! Mitigate is a great word. We didn't do gibberish when I was a kid, but I would think that kind of thing is regional. We spoke pig Latin. I remember being bad at it and having to practice to get it right lol.
Yessssss more gradients!!! I love any video when you show us techniques and I would love to see more. It would also be cool to combine a gradient followup with another stamping video 😏

It was fun and the BH Galaxy eyeshadow palette gave us a nice polish
Great video, Kelli! I tried a rainbow gradient for the first time (two different colors on each nail) and it was really difficult! I want to try it again! They look so pretty! Thank you! XOXO Heidi
Haven't done a gradient for a long time and I love them! Every once in a while I think about it, but then do something else. I have done the horizontal and vertical only so far, but love the side angled and the circular one. Will have to try next! Thank you for the refresher course!💜👍💅
I tried doing a gradient for the first time a few days ago. I didn't realize there were so many different kinds. I did the horizontal and could only get 2 colors on with my short nails. Yeah sometimes I really mess up that latex just sticking my fingers together by accident or getting it on my actual nail haha! i'll def be buying more of these barriers.

I have never heard of gibberish as a language like this. And then googling it found something similar but with different set of letters inserted. I love to use a glitter gradient to cover up the chips on my creme nail polish manicures to make them look pretty for a few days longer. My friend sales color street and it works on them too.
This is so crazy! I just happened to do a gradient last night with a different glitter from the Breakfast at Tiffany's collection. I was wearing Icelanded a bottle of OPI and dabbed on Champagne for Breakfast with the brush (because I'm lazy). I thought it looked very elegant and perfect for a special occasion. Now I want to practice doing sponge-on gradients.
An easy trick to blend gradients is to use a light iridescent topper! Works like magic! I'm a new subscriber and I just love your videos!
Can you do a quick review (or just give your thoughts) on the nail barriers you used? Ive been considering switching because im too impatient to wait for liquid latex to dry.
I really enjoyed them, there was definitely a mini learning curve for the first few I tried because I didn't realize how sticky they were and they ended up sticking to themselves LOL but after a couple tries they were super easy and there was almost no cleanup required!! I still like to have a tiny space between my nail and my skin so I did a tiny swipe with my cleanup brush though :) I'm definitely gonna be buying more though!
Hi Kelli, love all these gradient ideas and definitely will try. I used to find it so challenging but you make it look much easier. Also, how do you clean your sponges after? Do you just soak them in polish remover?
@@KelliMarissa Ok thank you! I have used them dry the way you do too. I've tried to cut them but then they become a mess. Better just to use them once for sure.👍
HAH! What timing, I just did a gradient this morning. :D Also, I am so glad you say Gradient instead of Hombre. I could never get on the hombre train. Been using Photoshop too long I guess. ;) As for barriers, I swear by tape. Latex just does NOT stick to my skin for whatever reason. I dab the sponge on the nail, and the latex sticks to the sponge, comes RIGHT up off my skin. So tape works much better. I did go without any barrier a while back, and was like "I always have to do cleanup anyway, what's a little more?" except it's NOT just a little more.. having used no barrier like.. quadrupeled the time it took to clean up. So yeah, HIGHLY advise using some form of barrier around the nail to make cleanup easier!! And finally, I'm surprised you didn't cover reciprocal gradients in this video! I know you've covered them before, but I thought you'd show one here. No biggie tho, it IS a slightly more advanced technique!
Haha yeah tape is my go-to lately because it's easy and cheap. But I really liked these barriers, they really got close to the skin. I'll have to order more!
I have a hell of a time using a brush to cleanup around my cuticle because I also have deep nail beds. This is my biggest frustration, and after having been using polish regularly for over 10 years, I still struggle to get a clean line around my nail. Whenever I use a brush to clean up my cuticle, it just smears it around and ruins the entire nail. I have used a real hair brush (like a paint brush), an eye makeup brush, and an artificial type brush. Am I using the wrong type of brush or too much polish remover? When you use the little peel off polish thingies, do you roll them down your cuticle? As in, does it sit flat on top of your cuticle or do you kinda push it down and wrap it around your cuticle to keep it clean? I have an issue where I just approach my cuticle and don't get it on there, but my cuticles harden and then the polish gets all bunched up in there. I would love to see a nail polish 101 on all the different ways to keep your cuticles clean (not how to care for them, how to deal with polish in/around or chipped from the cuticle).
Well I was just wondering what to paint my nails tonight or tomorrow and looks like I’m doing a gradient as now it’s on my mind 😂 Last one I attempted was for Valentine’s and I was so out of it I only added the new color to the sponge.
GREAT VIDEO THANKS
I always mess up my gradients! I need to keep practicing!❤
You can do it!!!!
Well I was just wondering what to paint my nails tonight or tomorrow and looks like I’m doing a gradient as now it’s on my mind 😂
Last one I attempted was for Valentine’s and I was so out of it I only added the new color to the sponge. Dabbed it on my nails and it was so bad! I need to redeem myself lol.
The difference between using both or one on the sponge is HUGE for smooth gradients.
Thank you for this video! Cant wait to try them!
Have you tried doing gradients with the maniology rectangle stamping plate? I’d love to see a tutorial for it, that way I don’t waste a ton of sponges 😜
Ooh I haven't, I'm intimidated by it LOL! But I'll def try it... eventually 😂
@@KelliMarissa Hahahah noooo you can do it, I believe in you! If anyone can, you can!
