Great video, the drypour came out great, had no doubt that it would. Haven't missed a episode of either of these great You.Tubers. You guys have a great week.😊 .
@@TheLiFeInPinesGood morning, just looking through number of views on your drypour videos they seem to be really popular, I like all your videos just wondering if you're planning anymore, maybe a sidewalk.😊
Yes, all things dry pour are really popular on UA-cam right now. We do have some other dry pour projects in the works, but our main focus is just finishing the house asap! Every month that goes by with it unfinished is just a boatload of money out the window! We’ll be excited when it’s done and we can move on to more projects like that!
Thanks for another great video!! We're from south Louisiana, too, & have subscribed to Cajun Country Livin' - looking forward to watching their videos 👍 God bless y'all ♥️ 🙏 👍
We seriously wouldn’t be where we are without Jim and Lydia! They have been such a blessing to our family! Our friendship has been the best thing to come from our UA-cam journey! ❤️
Love the fact that you all hooked up with Cajun Country. They were the ones suggesting to follow you. Enjoyed your video as well and i subscribed. Great job on the pour. Look forward to watching your adventures. 😀😀
Hi there and welcome to our channel! Ted and I are glad you decided to check it out! Same! We’ve been watching them for a long time so its pretty surreal to be collaborating with them now! We hope you enjoy our channel! God bless!
Well that was a fun episode. My two favorite youtube channels doing a Collab. I'm sure y'all had a blast. Can't wait to see how it holds up thru the winter. I think I'm going to do my dry pour within the next couple weeks. Mike
Awe yes! That’s so sweet, thank you! We had a total blast! We can’t wait to show you all how it holds up through the winter and spring thaw! Best of luck on your dry pour project!
We Found you guys through CCL. So glad we did. Started at your first video and just got caught up to today. We love your energy and unashamed Faith. Keep up the good work.
Wow! Thank you so much for coming over and checking out our channel! Ted and I are so glad you’re here! Hopefully you’re not sick of us after starting from the beginning! 🤣 Thank you for your kind words, we appreciate it so much!
What an awesome collaboration! You guys are sooo great together. It's ashamed that you live so far apart. i cam e here because of Cajun and subscribed after watching your first video. I just got done binge watching every episode. You are definitely on my must watch list. love all ya'll!
Awe! Wow, thank you! Ted and I are so grateful you’ve decided to come over and check out our channel! It is definitely too bad that we live so far apart, but we still talk every day! And we are already planning the next Cajun & Pines get together! Thanks so much for subscribing, watching and supporting us in that way! We appreciate it more than you know. 😊
We totally agree! You can barely even see them now that it’s dry unfortunately.. 🥲 We’re so glad you decided to come over and check our our channel! Ted and I are so happy you did!
Live in the western burbs of Chicago, from central IL, but came here from Louisiana! Saw you on CCL, Jim and Lydia, subscribed and going to follow your progress and try and catch up from the beginning.
A bit of a culture shock going from LA ti Chicago burbs? We’ve never been to Louisiana, but it sounds pretty awesome after hearing all the stories from Jim and Lydia! Thank you for subscribing, we appreciate that! Give us grace on our first dozen or so videos! 🤪
New sub over from those two Cajun hootiseses. Glad to see you get that chicken porch done. I mean....who wants a rough chicken porch, right ? It just wouldn't be right !😁
Lol! Welcome to the north woods of Minnesota! Ted and I are glad you’re here! And we agree! We’ve got some spoiled chickens so that rough patio had to be fixed! 🤣

nice colab. I bet it was nice for CCL to get out of the heat. looks like y,all had a ton of fun! I wonder how the 2 slabs are going to hold up to frost heaves? help or hurt or a nothing burger? guess we will find out next spring. plz do an update vid even if it does not go well. :D beautiful place you have there.
We will definitely be doing update videos on this! Make sure to subscribe and turn the notifications on! We’ll update ya!😊 CCL was definitely able to get out of that heat! We hope they will be back again sometime soon, or maybe we will take a trip and go melt down there? 🥵 🫠
I found you from watching Cajun Country Livin. I liked what I watch so much that I just finished watching all of your videos from the beginning. I've been having an argument with myself as to which of your children is the oldest and finally settled it by telling myself that they are twins. Looking forward to more videos (going to watch today right now)!
Oh my goodness you are too sweet! 🥰 Ted and I appreciate that so so much! lol that’s too funny! 🤣 so they are NOT twins…. CJ is 14 and Finley is 12… but Finley is super tall and she has always been neck and neck with CJ since they were toddlers! We get asked if they’re twins alllll the time!! We are so glad you’re enjoying our videos and we hope you like todays as well! ☺️
Yay! Don’t be scared! Just take your time, screed screed screed 💪🏼 Keep us posted cause we are excited to hear how it turns out! We hope you have a wonderful day! 🌲😊❤️

Welcome to a new SUB eh. Yup I am a Minnesotian from the twin cities. I think that I am going to love this channel as I plan my retirement in Hinkley. Not quite the Great White North -- but close. Wanna go with?
Welcome to the good ole north woods! We also hope you love our channel! We’ll be with ya in the virtual sense! Not much for us in Hinkley, and we’ve already done the twin cities! Let’s just say we’re glad to be back north!
@@TheLiFeInPines Well my family to the Nort, unless you have a Ladly, my Grandpa love still goes to "them" in Cajun Country . However, Minnesota roots go deep and go long, so you folks will be my first love...
They don’t claim to be the originals, but they were the original masters to us. We found them because of their original video a couple years ago and always thought it would be interesting to try it up here. No one had made a video on it prior to CCL.
Could you have put down plastic sheeting over the dry ppor that was curing during the storm to prevent the damage to the finish? Sometimes I see wet pour cement with plastic sheeting to keep in the moisture longer to let it cure slower and that makes it harder. Perhaps plastic sheeting will help with dry poors and make it pull more moisture by wicking?
With the dry pour we didn’t want to lay the plastic directly on the concrete in case it hadn’t hardened enough. However, we definitely should have tarped or covered it to where nothing was touching it and that would’ve prevented the damage! We will definitely have precautions ready for our next dry pour project!
Ladies love smart, hard working men. You guys hard work has attracted two beautiful, capable, smart ladies. Did I mention beautiful? I prefer you tube over regular TV. Keep up the great work. All my drypour projects have turned out great as well saved me a bit of money. You folks have it figured out. Pass along great information as well visual stimulation for old men. No offence intended.
You’ve got that right!! We (Lydia and I) snagged a couple of good ones! We also pretty much exclusively watch UA-cam over regular tv! SO glad to hear your dry pour projects have been successful. It can save you a ton of money! Lol none taken. 😄
As a southern minnesotan, I wouldve advised against the dry poor cement way. I was going to try it myself but the freezing temps would or may wreck havic.
Hi there! Thanks so much for your input! Freezing temps were also a concern for us, but so far so good! This slab made it through its first winter - albeit a mild one - but time will tell if it stands up to more of the typically harsh northern MN winters! Ted and I hope you have a great week! 🌲😊
I've watched a few CajunCountryLivin dry pours but is the only difference that you added a channel "footer" trench around the outside perimeter, before you added the concrete?
Hi Ted! Cajun country livin also does the footer, but I think they call it a “chain wall.” I believe the only difference is that we added the remesh for extra support and durability during the freeze/thaw to help prevent cracking from frost heaving. I hope that helps!
Is there a bleach to water ratio to follow or just pour it in? Do you have any idea what would cause a spot to raise up with an air bubble underneath and then crack. I pushed it down and continued but you can see the spot now fully dried and cured.
Hi! Oh no, we’re so sorry that happened!! 😥 I’m not sure if there’s an exact ratio of bleach:water. We certainly didn’t measure it out! If I had to guess we maybe did 2-3 cups bleach and filled the rest of the bucket with water. No idea what would cause that to happen? Did you go over an existing slab like we did? Or was this a new dry pour?
Hello wonderful job. I am in Eastern Oregon and we get the same type of fluctuation with weather hot in summer real cold in winter. Is the slab holding up? Thank you
Slab is doing great so far! We’ll post a video with an update once everything thaws out and it’s nice again! This winter has been very mild so far- but we have had a couple of cold snaps where it gets to be -20 so we’ll see what happens come spring! We’ll keep you posted!
Haha great question! We're not hootis masters by any stretch, but we like to think of it as anything you can use or construct as a tool, that you either cant find/don't have/or does not exist, to accomplish a certain job. Hope that helps! ☺️
Why did u beach it I wonder? cos I have the same problem it has big grey marks of the trowel that I want gone. I hope u can help I only found u guys just by watching Cajun Country...
ua-cam.com/video/i5PwQFQvbd8/v-deo.html Above is the link to CCL’s dry pour video where Jim gives an excellent explanation of what the bleach does. We bleached the existing slab before we poured the next slab on top of it. I hope this helps! Jim and Lydia are the experts and they have several videos that explain the exact technique and the science behind it all!
I need help. When i was misting my first water application a bunch of big squirts of water came out and put in a couple depressions. So bummed. I worked so hard to get it perfect. How can i fix that?
You could try an overlay like we did- It’s probably too late now, but if it happens in the future you could try lightly rolling it with the paint roller to see if that smooths it out. If not, you could try to sift out some of the finer concrete, fill in the depressions with that and then mist again. I am so sorry that happened to you! That is a bummer. Hopefully it’s not too bad.
It was probably in the 60's... maybe got up into the 70's during the day and 50's at night at the time of the pour. So far it has held up great! We just sealed it the other day, but will be sure to keep everyone updated throughout the freeze/thaw cycles we see up here in northern MN.
@@TheLiFeInPines i just did 8feet by 16feet dry pour. Low 60s in the day, low 40s at night 🤣. Let’s hope it can full cure. Mine didn’t turn out as nice as yours, maybe i went a bit too heavy on the misting. Stones are showing lol
Yea the misting is the most crucial. LESS IS MORE. No matter what, your slab will be ok even if it's not perfect cosmetically. We've been paying close attention to all concrete now and we've seen PLENTY of wet pours that have big cracks, spalling, inconsistent color, etc.. Bottom line, your slab will be fine!
As long as you have a long enough screed board, you have a long handle for your roller (finishing), and you are able to properly mist/water it in its entirety. We don’t see an issue with going bigger. Let us know if you do try it out! 🌲
We actually left the property to go out to eat that night (something we very rarely do). The radar showed that everything was gonna go south of us, so we didn’t think we had to worry about it. But, we were very wrong…or at least the radar was! It all worked out in the end and one of the best things out of UA-cam has come from it…..becoming friends with Jim and Lydia! ❤️
@@TheLiFeInPines While I see that in limited applications dry pour is a way people can save money on small slabs used for things like chicken sheds, kennels and wood stacks, I do wish Jim and Linda were a bit more cautious with their advice. Reading their comments page there's multiple people talking about intending to now use it for large, heavy use slabs and slabs intended for structures that will have people in them and J&L only encourage them in reply. Without getting into the chemistry, a dry pour, even done the best possible way, will always have inferior strength and lifespan than an equivalent wet pour. Unlike a contractor built slab where you can be compensated by a lawsuit if it fails and causes loss or injury, you can't blame the company that produced the dry mix for your dry pour slab if you didn't follow the instructions; which almost all types intended for slabs require a wet mix - and you can't blame a YT channel. I think J&L are authentic well-meaning sweethearts but they do not fully comprehend concrete nor the run away power of a new fad, where the quality problems may not be apparent for a decade. I very much enjoy your channel and wish you and your family all the best.
You need some kind of adhesive to get the two layers to bond. A grout slurry works really well but also the Home Depot stuff that looks like milk. There is no bond between the two slabs, water will get in between. A couple freeze thaw cycles and they will separate. Inside a conditioned structure this would be fine, but I’ll give it one or two Minnesota winters before it deteriorates. Best thing you could have done is just tear the whole thing out and replace. Also wtf does the bleach do? Is there bacteria or something on the slab? Water and a stiff brush is all you need.

Love it!!
🥰 thanks so much!
Those are two blessed men
Yes! We 100% are! 🙌🏻

We really enjoyed the very end of this video where you shared bits from your devotion. Keep up His work! 💞
😊🤗 Neither of us have the gift of evangelism… so these little mustard seeds are our attempt at it. It just wouldn’t be right to leave our faith out of our content. We hope you have a great week Kimberly! ❤️ 🌲
Good friends to have.
We couldn’t agree more!!!🥰
Enough said…. When you said MINNESOTA, subscribed 😂
😃 are you a fellow Minnesotan?
nice colab. I bet it was nice for CCL to get out of the heat. looks like y,all had a ton of fun!
I wonder how the 2 slabs are going to hold up to frost heaves? help or hurt or a nothing burger? guess we will find out next spring. plz do an update vid even if it does not go well. :D
beautiful place you have there.
We will definitely be doing update videos on this! Make sure to subscribe and turn the notifications on! We’ll update ya!😊
CCL was definitely able to get out of that heat! We hope they will be back again sometime soon, or maybe we will take a trip and go melt down there? 🥵 🫠
This is one awesome video.....🐔🎉party time🎉 🐔
Haha yes!! We had a blast together!
@@TheLiFeInPines Thank you for settling my argument! Finley seems very mature for her age which is what kept throwing me off. I loved today's video!
Haha my pleasure! Finley is very mature!!
Also so glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Fantastic!!!
Thank you so much for the video
My first dry pour tomorrow by myself

I've been waiting for this video. 😀
Hope you enjoyed it! ☺️ We had a lot of fun!
@@TheLiFeInPines all my favorite people in one video how can I not enjoy it. I can only imagine the boys cutting up the entire time.
Haha it’s a deal!
What makes them the ORIGINAL dry pour masters? I did dry pour 25 years ago.
They don’t claim to be the originals, but they were the original masters to us. We found them because of their original video a couple years ago and always thought it would be interesting to try it up here.
No one had made a video on it prior to CCL.
Nice work.
Thank you! 😊
👍
Screed is where it’s at…!!
That’s right! 🙌🏼
So how does the re- dry pour turn out? I live in the UP by Lk Michigan and want to do a sidewalk. Thanks!
So far it is holding up! It’s been through one freeze thaw cycle. 😊❄️
We have a sidewalk at our project house that we want to do with this method! 👍🏼
Did you consider using curing compound?
No, we have never used that.
@@TheLiFeInPines Thank you very much
Did you pull the forms yet?
We haven’t!! We’re waiting until fall when we get a load of dirt and plant grass seed all around it. We’ll make a video and be sure to show you!
Okay, silly question. What is a hoodis?
Haha great question! We're not hootis masters by any stretch, but we like to think of it as anything you can use or construct as a tool, that you either cant find/don't have/or does not exist, to accomplish a certain job. Hope that helps! ☺️
Why did u beach it I wonder? cos I have the same problem it has big grey marks of the trowel that I want gone. I hope u can help I only found u guys just by watching Cajun Country...
ua-cam.com/video/i5PwQFQvbd8/v-deo.html
Above is the link to CCL’s dry pour video where Jim gives an excellent explanation of what the bleach does. We bleached the existing slab before we poured the next slab on top of it.
I hope this helps! Jim and Lydia are the experts and they have several videos that explain the exact technique and the science behind it all!
I would have thought that putting the yard birds in the coop after all the tracks. I was all wrong!!! DOH!!
lol we liked the tracks! Just didn’t want them to ruin the slab when it was dry. It’s all good! 😉
I need help. When i was misting my first water application a bunch of big squirts of water came out and put in a couple depressions. So bummed. I worked so hard to get it perfect. How can i fix that?
You could try an overlay like we did-
It’s probably too late now, but if it happens in the future you could try lightly rolling it with the paint roller to see if that smooths it out. If not, you could try to sift out some of the finer concrete, fill in the depressions with that and then mist again. I am so sorry that happened to you! That is a bummer. Hopefully it’s not too bad.
how many degree day time and night time during this pour? how does it hold up?
Howdy Would it be possible to do a 14 x16 ft dry pour slab or is that to big , love your show
As long as you have a long enough screed board, you have a long handle for your roller (finishing), and you are able to properly mist/water it in its entirety. We don’t see an issue with going bigger. Let us know if you do try it out! 🌲
@@TheLiFeInPines Thank you Got to get the snow off the ground first Lol Love your show Thanks God bless
Haha yes I don’t know if we’d try it in the winter! Best of luck! Keep us posted!
Y'all know she did it best
Haha 💁🏼♀️. Thanks for watching!
Like the navy SEALS always say, chicken prints add character.
Heck yes! 🐓
Why did you not just put black plastic on it when the storm rolled in?
@wobblyboost all concrete will crack eventually! Quit down grading them! Loser boy
If you had watched the video you would have known that they went out for dinner!
Time will tell! Thanks for your comment!
Where's the finished product? I'd like to see the sides of the slab.
Hi! We pulled the forms on this video. (Link below) Feel free to check it out. We plan on sealing it this fall before winter and will also do a video on it.
ua-cam.com/video/tl1IkQE0MPw/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Why didn't you do a skim coat then because most skim coats harden up the top but by pouring another layer you're just going to crack it up.
Maybe that would have been a better option! We definitely don’t claim to be concrete experts! Time will tell! ☺️
puedes hacer una pequeña prueba golpeando una esquina con un marro????????????
I don’t think we’d want to do that…. wet or dry pour. 👎🏼
It’s definitely not hollow. We will keep posting update videos on it after each winter. 👍🏼 ❄️
🙏🏻👍🏻Amen

They ain't frames they forms
Freudian slip- lol. Good catch. 🙃
